Chapter 390

“I’m going to make something warm to drink!”

Mason didn’t reject his offer. He watched as his father hurried into the cramped kitchen and went about boiling water clumsily. The night breeze was a tad too strong, causing him to cough intermittently.

All of a sudden, Mason asked, “Have you gone to see the doctor?”

Westley’s body stiffened. Then, he responded softly, “I’ve had this cough for a long time. It’s no big deal, really! All it takes is some pill and I’ll feel better.”

Mason knew he was lying. One look was all he needed to know that this condition had haunted his father for a long time. However, he didn’t press for more information. Instead, he started paging through

the books on the couch.

Westley proceeded to make some tea once the water was boiled. He was a little uneasy when he gave his son the cup of tea. He even smiled bitterly when he said, “I don’t have any better tea leaves. I’m sorry if you find it distasteful.”

Mason took a sip and put the cup down.

The old man knew his son wasn’t used to this sort of tea, So, he sat down and asked about his family, mostly centered around Yanni’s condition.

Mason was dazed at the mention of his daughter and responded lightly, “The surgery’s tomorrow. She’s going to be right as rain very

soon.”

Westley was pleased to hear that.

Topping up his son’s cup, he said happily, “I’m glad all it takes is

surgery to cure her! She’s such an adorable kid. I have to say, Zoe did a good job raising her too.”

However, he couldn’t hide the sorrow in his heart. After all, he couldn’t spend any time with his family. He had to admit that he was the one who brought all of this on himself. There was no one else to blame. It was only natural that Mason wouldn’t reconcile with him.

It was kind enough of Mason to visit him now.

Mason didn’t stay too long, nor did he speak much. He rose and said to him about ten minutes later, “It’s getting late. I should leave now.”

Westley was a little disappointed to hear it. He murmured, “You’re leaving too soon!”

Mason stared at him underneath the fluorescent light. His father had abandoned him back when he was very young. It was hard for him to not feel anything about it..

He tossed a bank card onto the coffee table. “There are twenty million dollars in it. The password is my birthday. Buy yourself an apartment. The rest of it should last you the rest of your life.”

He paused a little before continuing, “You’ll never see me again.”

There, he had tied up another loose end!

He hated Westley for more than twenty years and yet he chose to make sure his father would live comfortably for the rest of his life before the decisive surgery tomorrow.

However, he still couldn’t let go of his hatred enough to call him ‘Dad.’

Westley’s hands were trembling. Picking up the bank card, he said in a broken voice, your money, Mason. This isn’t what I

want…”

“I’m not after

The truth was, he wanted nothing more than to be reunited with his

son and his family.

Raising his head slightly, Mason smiled bitterly and said, “That’s the end of it! This is the best I can do for you. From this day on, I don’t owe you anything and you don’t owe me anything.”

After that, he left his father alone in the middle of the night.

Westley took off after him, trying to catch up to him. By the time he reached the bottom of the stairs, Mason had driven off into the

distance.

However, he didn’t give up. Instead, he kept running after the black Bentley and called out to his son repeatedly, “Mason! Stop, Mason!”

The night breeze blew past his threadbare shirt, making him look that much more pitiful.

Gripping the steering wheel tightly, Mason thought he had repaid his father tonight. It was better for him to sever their ties. Otherwise, his father would only be more heartbroken when he learned about his eventual fate.

With that said, he still couldn’t stop tears from welling up in his eyes.

He drove all the way back to Kirk Manor and went back upstairs.

To his surprise, Zoe was awake!

She was sitting in the dark of night and swept her eyes across the room. She had a nightmare where Mason was dead…

That was when the man in question opened the bedroom door and a trace of light shone into the room.

Raising her head, she looked at him when he stepped in. She murmured, “Where have you been?”
