Chapter 403
It was autumn and it was cold outside.
Tugging at the coat, she wrapped it around her delicate face, the refined fabric felt so comfy to the touch. She could just smell David’s
scent off of it.
Then, she snapped out of the trance!
Shaking her head, she denied David’s claim. “It’s nothing like that!”
e next thing she knew, David held her shoulders. Her slender figure ade her look especially fragile, like a delicate flower. They looked like a perfect match in this exquisite view.
Sitting in the wheelchair, Mason stared at them quietly as they left. He turned his back to the pitch-black night. Now that he was no longer feeling the joy of reuniting with Zoe again, the night had lost its serene beauty. In its place, a layer of sorrow and hopelessness draped over it.
David was embracing her. They looked so lovely together. She used to be his everything, but she belonged to another man now.
David kept Zoe company all the way to the parking lot, where a black limousine was waiting for her. He held the roof of the car as she got.
it, bent down, and looked at her affectionately, “Get some rest. I’ll give you a call tomorrow.”
Smiling faintly, she said, “Sure.” Then, she handed him his coat.” You’re at a party. You’ll need this.”
Putting on his coat, he stared at her and fell into deep thought. She wore a light purple gown tonight. It highlighted her slender, delicate
figure. He couldn’t resist leaning over and planting a kiss on the corner of her lips.

Needless to say, he desired to do more than kiss her. However, he knew better than anyone that Zoe was different from the other ladies. He had known her when he was a young man. Aside from loving her as a woman, he also loved her the way a big brother would a younger
sister.
That wasn’t to say he didn’t like Zoe the way she was now. She was much more mature and exuded the feminine charm that only came
with age.
She was stunned by the sudden kiss, but she didn’t duck out of the way. At the next moment, she wrapped her hand around his neck and held his chin with her lean fingers, caressing it tenderly.
David was a little mesmerized by it. He couldn’t resist kissing the
back of her ear.
Catching the odor of the liquor off of him, she said gently, “Let Jorge drive you back home.”
He responded to her absentmindedly, “Sure.” After a second, he chuckled gently and asked her, “Are you feeling better now? Or, are you still feeling a little distressed?”
Zoe simply couldn’t let herself go with their chauffeur, Jorge, in the front seat. Moreover, they hadn’t been together for too long. She
sn’t there both physically and mentally.
Leaning on his chest, she said in a trembling voice, “I’m fine, really.”
Then, David’s phone started ringing. It was his assistant, probably calling him for some emergency. He excused himself and stepped aside. Then, he gestured for Jorge to start the car and drive off.
The chauffeur did his bidding and drove off into the distance. Zoe sat

in the backseat and watched David in the rearview mirror. His figure grew smaller as the car drove further and further away.
He answered the phone call, but he trained his gaze on her car.
This was how it was going to be, she thought to herself. It’d be better if she put her relationship with Mason behind her. Both of them had new lives and could do away with feeling anguish over their ugly past. It wouldn’t be fair for the people around them otherwise.
It was quite chilly in the night and she tried to stave off the cold by hugging herself. Jorge smiled and said, “Mr. David kept reminding me to watch out for you. He was worried that you’d feel cold. I think he’s extra thoughtful when it comes to you, Ms. Zoe.”
She smiled faintly in response.
Who in the world wouldn’t like it when a guy was being thoughtful and
sweet?
The black limousine drove on the street steadily and passed right by her childhood home. The words “Kirk Manor” was carved onto the top of the ornate gate.
At one glance, Zoe could tell that Mason had moved out of the place. The manor was vacant and empty now.
