Chapter 450
She looked at the kids from the rear-view mirror, swapped glances with Mia, and smiled faintly.
Fifteen minutes later, a car pulled into the private route leading to her manor. As it was coming closer to the place, she saw that it was a black Land Rover. A man got out of the car.
It was Liam.
She didn’t say anything, but she wore a nonchalant expression.
Mia, however, couldn’t hold her temper in check and exploded, “How dare he show up here?! He has done enough to tear up our entire family. Why does he still show his face around us?”
Zoe hadn’t had the chance to tell her stepmother about Noah and Gwynn. Now that Liam was here, she thought perhaps she should fill her in. “Noah married his sister, Gwynn, a year ago. She was only twenty-one years old.”
Mia was completely stunned.
After a brief moment, she came to her senses and said, “That possible! We were also staying in Silvercrest for the past year. did he manage to keep such a huge thing from us? Are you sure didn’t pull a fast one over you?”
Smiling bitterly, she responded, “I called Noah and asked him. He admitted having married Gwynn.”
For a while there, Mia was gripped with such intense emotion that she wasn’t sure what she should say.
They were in the middle of the conversation when their car passed Liam.
Extending his arm, he stopped her.
Clearly, he was here to ask about Gwynn. Opening her car door, she asked Mia to take Yanni and Jamie inside while she stayed back to
talk to him.
Underneath the evening light, Mia took the kids and fled the scene.
Both Zoe and Liam stared at each other wordlessly for a long time. He almost forgot about the cigarette between his fingers. Then, he smiled bitterly and said, “How surprising. Both of you got a boy and a girl.”
Averting her gaze from the manor, she turned and looked at Liam.
What surprised her was that he actually shivered a little when her eyes met his. Then, he lit the half-smoked cigarette. He didn’t meet her gaze again until after he had taken a drag. “I’m here to ask about my sister. Where is she?”
“Not a clue,” she responded. “I didn’t even know Gwynn existed back when I lived in Silvercrest. Noah didn’t tell me anything. What I do know is that they really are married. That much is true!
“If you’re so worried about her, you should take a flight to Silverd I think your sister will want to meet up with you.”
Liam got straight to the point and said, “Noah pulled some stri and suspended me from flying out of the country. I can’t travel to Silvercrest for the time being.”
He was young and stood at the top of the legal industry. He was no stranger to using his powers to further his personal goals.
Never in his life did he beg anyone for anything.
However, Gwynn was the only family he had left.
He was basically pleading with her. “I beg you, Zoe. Please talk to
Noah and ask him to let Gwynn go! She’s not part of our family feud. She’s innocent. She knows nothing.”
Zoe responded miserably, “Noah was also innocent back then.”
Liam stared at her in response. His fingers started trembling slightly, hinting at the fact that he was keeping himself from having an
outburst.
After a long time, she walked toward her car. Then, she opened her car and stopped in her tracks. She said softly, “I’ll do what I can! I’ll put out my feelers, but you said it yourself, Liam. They’re married. It’ll be hard to change anything.”
With that, she drove her car into her manor. Her silver Rolls-Royce passed him by, but she was very calm. She didn’t try to ram him the way she did before.
Liam, on the other hand, instinctively took a step back. Leaning back on his car, he started reminiscing.
After he exacted his revenge, he didn’t get the satisfaction he thought he would. Instead, he kept dreaming about his old law firm. The evening light shone through the window and into his old office as Zoe poured her heart out in front of him.
