Chapter 455

Raising his eyes, Mason asked her, “Is Jamie feeling better with his hay fever after moving back to Brookesville?”

Walking over, Zoe crouched next to him, patted her son’s head, and said gently, “He’s feeling much better now. I’m going to take him for a routine check in a few days.”

He proceeded to stare at her, checking her out.

She wore a long purple dress which complimented her fair skin and her slender figure. It also revealed her lean calves.

That was where he gripped as his hands swayed along with her repeatedly. Then, her toes pointed straight and she leaned into his neck. After the wave of pleasure passed, he held her and soothed her wordlessly.

They might not have parted on good terms, but they gave each other the best sex that night.

Just thinking about it made him dwell longingly in the hot, passio memory. The air turned a little tantalizing because of it.

After a brief moment, he said in a husky voice, “It’s hot out here. L go inside!”

He wanted to stop her when she pushed his wheelchair, but he decided against it. He merely held her hand quietly when the kids weren’t looking.

Zoe’s hands trembled a little, but she didn’t pull them out of his reach.

Both the kids were very happy. They insisted on him telling them fairy tales. So, he took a children’s book from the coffee table and put Jamie on his lap while Yanni sat next to him.

He looked serious and charming when he was reading them the book.

She noticed that he wore a brand new shirt and long pants today. He wasn’t going out, but he did use the old cufflinks she had given him.

Obviously, he put a lot of thought into his outfit.

It wasn’t a date and yet he spent a lot of time making himself look

nice!

She knew better than anyone that it was no easy feat, given the fact that he only had one hand to work with.

Worried that she might lose control of herself, she started to talk about something. “Summer solstice is just around the corner. I’m going to make some hot dogs and put them in the fridge now. Yanni kept asking for Coney Island hot dogs, but Jamie loves the Chicago- style hot dogs.”

Raising his eyes to look at her, his eyes grew darker as if he could see through what she was trying to do.

She left hastily, her heart pounding fast.

The servants were busy preparing lunch in the kitchen, but they car over and greeted her warmly when they saw her. “What brought y into the kitchen, Ms. Zoe? Don’t trouble yourself with this. You c just wait for the lunch in the dining hall.”

She didn’t tell them the real reason she was there. Instead, she said

tenderly, “I want to make some hot dogs for the kids.”

One of the servants said immediately, “You do make some mean snacks.”

Zoe only needed a small part of the kitchen. That corner was well over six hundred square feet and there was virtually no one there.

The servants prepared some ingredients for her and went away to

continue preparing the lunch.

Focusing on making the hot dogs, Zoe proceeded to make some snacks for Mason as well. He didn’t really like hot dogs, so she made him some muffins. It paired well with a cup of coffee or tea.

She could still listen to the sounds from the living room even if she was in this corner of the kitchen. From time to time, she’d hear his deep chuckle. It sounded as if he was in a good mood too.

Then, she fell into deep thought. It would’ve been wonderful if things could be this way. She’d stay here and look after Mason. They’d lean on each other as they witnessed both of their kids growing up.

That way, they didn’t have to race against time. She could wait for however long he needed to recover. He could take his own time, trying to stand on his own. In fact, it wouldn’t have mattered to her if he couldn’t recover for the rest of his life.

Then, tears filled her eyes.

She heard the sound of the wheelchair before she saw him at the door. Raising her eyes, she locked gazes with him. Moments later, he wheeled himself into the kitchen, seemingly intent on getting a bott of water. However, he couldn’t reach it.

Rising, she wanted to give him a hand.

Her fingers had barely touched the fridge when he immediately grabbed her. It seemed like he did it on purpose. He tricked her just so he could catch her like this.
