Both of them were stunned by what he said, especially Mason.

The passion of the moment died down a little and Zoe wanted to get off of him. Coming back to his senses, he kept his grip on her slender waist and said softly, “Just let me hold you for a little while.”

Lowering his head, he looked at her. He tried to take a cigarette out of his front pocket, but he was having trouble doing it because she was in his arms. So, he resorted to fiddling with the packet and stared into her eyes instead.
“I’m worried you’ll regret getting back with me!”

Then, he made up his mind and said, “We’ll end things between us as soon as David comes back from his work trip! In the meantime, we can pretend as if we’re a married couple if you’re okay with it.”
