I Refuse to Divorce! by Light Breeze Chapter 458

Chapter 458

They might’ve been married in the past, but they parted ways for many years. That was why the affair felt refreshing for them.

The night rolled on and Deborah put the kids to sleep.

Zoe took a shower in the guest room and applied her skincare. She put on silk pajamas and went knocking on Mason’s room. She didn’t even think about it when she opened his door without waiting for an

answer.

Mason wasn’t the only one in his bedroom. There were two more male nurses in the room, who were getting him ready for a bath.

Three of the buttons on his shirt were unfastened, revealing his fair and firm skin. He was sitting in his wheelchair, chatting with the male nurses. It looked like he had gotten used to being taken care of.

However, his eyes grew darker when their eyes met. Based on that alone, she was certain that he hadn’t gotten used to something like this. It seemed that the life that followed his disability was something he could never be comfortable with.

She knew it because she knew him well.

Before he could say anything, she called out to both of the male nurses. “I’ll take care of this.”

Both of them weren’t sure what to do.

Mason was staring directly into her eyes. He felt very humiliated now. His pride had taken a blow because this was the last thing he wanted her to see.

After a long time, he kept his gaze on her while he said to the male nurses, “Leave the room.”

Both of them worked for Lockwood Hospital. At the next moment, they left the room hastily without so much as a glance at either one of them.

Just like that, Zoe and Mason were the only people left in the

bedroom.

An eerie silence hung over them.

Not even she could tell if he’d explode right there and then. After all, he was an extremely proud man.

The light above them cast a warm glow in the room.

Mason raised his hands and continued to unbutton his shirt. Then, he finished unbuttoning himself and looked at Zoe, who was still standing by the door, and asked in a husky voice, “Didn’t you say you’ll take care of me? What are you standing there for?”

She went over to him immediately.

Crouching, she rested her palms on his knees and looked at him.

He smelled her scent, reached out, and touched her lean shoulder.” Have you taken a bath already?”

“I have,” she said.

Wheeling him into the bathroom, she unfastened his belt and strain to take off his long pants. She was about to take off his black underwear, but he stopped her gently.

He looked at her condescendingly and spoke solemnly, “My legs don’t work at all, Zoe! I need two nurses’ help if I want to take a bath…”

He was concerned that she might feel sorry for herself.

Then, he held her hands gently.

Crouching before him, she knew he didn’t want her to feel bad, but

that was impossible. Leaning on his chest, her hair cascaded on his feet. At that moment, it felt as if she was thrown back to the past, to the time when she was still his wife.

He couldn’t help but run his fingers through her hair. Zoe was barely over thirty years old. She was so young and had a bright future ahead of her. How could he selfishly shackle her and make her stay by his

side?

After a long time, he said tenderly, “Go ahead and call the nurses back!”

She didn’t insist on staying back this time.

Straightening up her clothes, she went to the fitting room and picked out a suit jacket for him before opening the door. Both of the male nurses were still standing there. They greeted her the moment they saw her, “Ms. Zoe.”

Her eyes had turned red, but she held her tears back and spoke in a casual tone, “Go in there and help Mason with the bath!”

She read a book in the private lounge while she waited for him.

Both of them were tormented during the short amount of time it to him to take a bath. It was like what he said. If she wanted to be him, then she’d have to come to terms with a lot of difficult thi
