Chapter 459
Zoe knew she could do it, but she was worried she might hurt his pride if she took care of him.
The male nurses were very professional with the bath. Half an hour later, Mason was all cleaned up and leaning on the headboard. They also straightened up the bathroom before they left. Needless to say, she couldn’t exactly go into the bedroom while they were still in there.
So, she waited until they left before she went on.
The crystal chandelier was turned off. All he had for light was the night light. He saw her coming in and waved her over, signaling for her to lie down next to him.
His voice was soft and tender as if what happened earlier didn’t
affect him.
So, she walked over and slept next to him. Leaning on his chest, she took in the scent of shampoo from him while he held her shoulder and caressed it gently. This time, he wasn’t touching her out of lust.
After a brief moment, he said in a husky voice, “You saw it! I nee help just doing something simple, like taking a bath. David’s your
choice now, Zoe.”
She buried her face deeper into his chest.
Instead of responding to him, she merely pressed herself against h warm body. She asked him in a trembling voice, “What does that make us now? Are you going to see me as your mistress? Can you bear the idea of sharing me with another man? When have you become this accommodating?”
Her voice broke towards the end of the sentence. She was close to
crying.
She did it for him…
She looked beautiful when she was vulnerable and he loved it very
much.
Leaning over, he wiped her tears off tenderly, but he didn’t say
anything. After all, he’d only make it worse.
They were wallowing in sorrow when his phone rang.
It was Ava, calling about work. He answered the phone, sat up, and spoke lightly with her. However, he lowered his eyes and rested his gaze on Zoe.
She wanted to get up, but he held his phone between his cheek and his shoulder while grabbing her arm, stopping her from leaving.
After that, he continued his brief conversation with Ava and hung up,
Lying down, he said, “It’s just work.”
She was about to say something when he reached out and turned off the light. Holding her in the dark, he said affectionately, “Let’s chat, Zoe. It’s been a long time since we were both on the same bed! Di you say you had something to talk to me about?”
He simply couldn’t get enough of moments like this.
The lights were turned off and the world had seemingly frozen in time. It felt as if she was his wife again. The likes of David, Liam, an
Cecil were nonexistent.
He even held her hands and did nothing else. He was content to let her be his wife for a brief moment.
Zoe snuggled closer to him and rested her cheeks on the side of his shoulder. She said softly, “This morning, Yanni told me that her friends had started school. That makes her want to go to school too.
I told you to look for schools, Mason. How did it go?”
Lowering his head, he looked at her in the dark.”
Tomorrow’s Monday. How about we take he “It’s done!
there for an interview?
Let’s bring Jamie too. The kindergarten I have in mind is quite strict. They care about how we look as a family.”
Zoe knew he could’ve gotten it done all by himself if he wanted to.
However, she didn’t disagree with him. Holding his hand, she told him all about her life such as her days in Silvercrest, her career, as well as things about Ella and Farley.
In the past, they had never chatted with each other the way they did
now.
Midnight came. They dozed off and slipped into dreams together.
The next morning, Zoe woke up and looked at the gentle morning light shining in from the window. Then, she turned and looked at Mason, who was still sleeping soundly.
