Chapter 479
Lisa was downhearted to hear it. “Are you leaving so soon? You could spend the night here and leave in the morning.”
“It isn’t appropriate,” Zoe said calmly.
Then, she put on the shoes. “I’m here because of my kids. I didn’t come here to reminisce about the past with Mason. It isn’t exactly appropriate for me to stay here longer than I should.”
She might’ve sounded cold, but it was only because she had been hurt one too many times.
Westley, on the other hand, was a reasonable man. Pondering on it, he said, “Just a couple of hours, Zoe. Please. I can’t let you go back by yourself! Let me send you home, at least!”
“That won’t be necessary. I’ll ask Luke to send me back.”
However, Weslet was persistent. Perhaps he didn’t want to be here alone and continue to bicker with Lisa.
In the end, Zoe agreed to stay back for a while.
By the time she got into the car, dawn was breaking over the sky. She could even hear the crowing of a rooster from afar, signifying the coming of a new day. The sunlight was gentle and covered the whole sky when she returned to her manor.
Mia stayed awake for the entire night, waiting for Zoe. Truth be told, she was also worried about Mason. She was throwing back her head and yawning when she heard the sound of a car pulling into the yard. Then, she immediately snapped out of it and headed outside.
As expected, Zoe was home.

Westley also got out of the car. He had recognized Mia a few years back. Now that he met her, he was still very polite and said, “Zoe has been a great help, Mia. I also have to thank you for taking care of Yanni and Jamie.”
Mia responded casually and didn’t say much.
She watched as he got back into the car and sighed, “It looks like he also had it rough for the past few years! His health has gotten worse, but his family hadn’t welcomed him back.”
Then, she asked Zoe to go inside. “I made some pizza. Go in and I’ll serve you a sizzling pizza to warm you up.”
“Okay,” Zoe responded.
Both of them sat at the dining table. Zoe ate her pizza quietly while Mia asked her about Mason’s situation as well as the relationship between Westley and Lisa. “So, are you saying that he didn’t remember who he was for several years?”
She responded softly, “I’m not too sure about it. All I know is that some kind of prohibited drug was found in his blood when he went for a checkup a while ago. It messed up his nerves.
“Cecil said someone convinced Westley to take it for some twenty- odd years. He probably stopped taking it recently and inadvertently got his memories back.”
Mia was shocked at the revelation.
She gave it some thought before responding, “That means someone did it on purpose! Who did this? Who’s the heartless wretch?” She might’ve hated the Lockwoods, but she found the culprit despicable as well.
Zoe smiled dryly. “Perhaps it was karma!”

In fact, she didn’t intend to say much about it. After all, she suffered some of the consequences of the conflict between Westley and Lisa. She had never thought Lisa was completely innocent in it.
Of course, Lisa was hurt badly, but that wasn’t a good reason for her to lash out at others just to make herself feel better.
Mia agreed with her sentiment wholeheartedly.
Pondering on it, she said, “I guess you’re right! You’re no longer a part of the Lockwoods, anyway. Let them figure it out!”
Mason was lying on the bed in his bedroom on the second floor. He was all cleaned up, but he didn’t see Zoe anymore. So, he asked the servant who served him his meal about it.
The servant put down the tray and answered steadfastly, “Ms. Zoel has gone home. She’s been gone for a while now. Mr. Westley sent her back himself. He said he wanted to personally thank Ms. Mia.”
He couldn’t help but feel downhearted.
Zoe didn’t so much as tell him before she left. He had just recovered from his illness and was supposed to have a big appetite. However, he had lost it now. He merely took several mouthfuls before putting his cutlery down.
Westley opened the door and saw his son leaning on the headboard, flipping through a yellowed diary quietly.
