Westley didn’t disturb him.
After a brief moment, he asked, “Is that Zoe’s diary?”
Nodding, Mason said, “She used to keep a diary when she was young. Once, I did something wrong and said something I shouldn’t have. Then, she got so infuriated that she burned it. That’s why it looks the way it does now.”
After that, he fell into a trance for a long time.
Would he have to rely on her belongings to remember her if he never got better? Would Zoe fall in love with another man?
Westley could tell something was bothering his son. He soothed him softly, “If you really can’t let her go, then you should focus on the treatment. You still have a shot at full recovery! Moreover, you and Zoe love each other. She never saw you as a burden.
“Time is highly precious to a lady, son, and yet you keep making her wait for you. There are even times when you outright sent her away.
ou’ll regret it when she actually goes too far for you to reach!”
Looking out the window, he added softly, “That’s the story of my life. I regret my actions deeply, but no one would hear it.”
Normally, he wouldn’t have said anything like this. Now, however, he was really depressed. At the next moment, he headed straight to the door and left.
Mason raised his eyes and looked at the door, lost in deep thought.
Mason didn’t go looking for Zoe.

Their kids were the only connection between them now. However, he started to put some real effort into exercising and focused on bringing his health back to shape. He even cut down on his smoking. Now, he’d only have two or three cigarettes every day.
Cecil also poured all of his time into developing a new drug, based on the information David provided to them. By the end of the year, he managed to produce the first batch.
At first, he merely gave Mason a small dose.
After a week, Mason woke up in the morning and was surprised to see that his right hand could curl lightly. His legs could move slightly too. It was just that he hadn’t been using them for so long, so they
felt a little stiff.
Staring at his right hand, he focused and tried to bend his fingers. At long last, they finally responded to his command and jerked slightly.
Mason tried to suppress the burst of joy he felt and called Cecil.
They amped up the dose. However, the newly developed drug had some side effects. It worked wonders, but he’d always throw up.
Cecil continued to finetune the drug’s formula as he administered it
to Mason.
It was right before New Year and Mason was able to stand up and climb a few steps on the stairs if he held the handrail.
All of this was done in secrecy.
Mason began his long and painstaking journey of physiotherapy. His limbs had been dormant for too long. So, it’d take some commitment to exercise to whip his body back into shape. Unfortunately, it wasn’t an issue any drug could fix.
He rarely got out of the house. Instead, he’d train and exercise in his

He even broke his skin sometimes. However, none of this stopped. him from putting in six hours of exercise each day.
Cecil reprimanded him, calling him mad. He told Mason that he wouldn’t last long if he went at it this way, but Mason wouldn’t listen.
All of that culminated in a breakdown in his body.
However, Mason could walk on his own for a short distance after he recovered from it. That wasn’t to say that he didn’t use the wheelchair most of the time. After all, it was much easier.
Cecil said that he’d recover fully after six months. Then, he could -wreak havoc in the world again.
A moment later, Layla led Cecil to the door.
Mason was about to give a call to Zoe when, to his surprise, she called him. Her voice was warm and soft on the phone. “I’m sort of busy lately. Can I let the kids stay with you for a week?”
He asked instinctively, “What happened?”
She paused briefly before responding to him, “It’s a private matter. If it’s okay with you, I’ll send them over this afternoon.”
