However, Noah was distracted. Zoe’s words kept ringing in his head.
“Would you have let her get pregnant with your baby if you didn’t love her?”
There was no way he’d fallen in love with Gwynn.
He had always loved more mature women who knew how to carry themselves in a delicate situation. Gwynn, on the other hand, was basically a little girl in all but appearance.
What was so good about her?
Just as he was dozing off, he repeated to himself.
“I’m not in love with Gwynn.”
The moment Zoe got into her car, John leaned over and asked, “Are we going to the hotel now, Ms. Zoe?”
She was downhearted.
Leaning back on the leather seat, she said softly, “We’ll stay for a night. I want you to book a flight to Silvercrest first thing in the morning.”
That surprised him.
However, his professional work ethic came first. He knew his boundaries and didn’t overstep them by asking her questions. The only thing he did was text her the flight details after they checked into the hotel.
The fact was that she was tired from the commute and her time at

The hotel she checked into was a private villa with a hot spring. So, she intended to have a soak before she slept.
It was an open-air hot spring. She had just lowered herself into the steaming spring and let out a long, relaxing sigh when her phone rang.
It was Mason.
She answered the phone. Her voice turned a little husky from the hot spring. “Are Yanni and Jamie asleep?”
He paused a little before answering her, “Are you in the hot spring now?”
Smiling faintly, she responded, “Yeah.”
Then, he followed up with a question. “What about John? Is he with you in the hot spring?” He was so jealous that she had no problem sensing it even in her relaxed state.
That wasn’t to say she coddled him. Instead, she said directly, “I don’t think it concerns you even if I did bathe in the hot spring with him! Isn’t it over between us, Mason?”
That riled him up.
It just so happened that John needed to report something urgent to her. Knocking on the door, he said, “I need your decision on
something urgent, Ms. Zoe.”
Now that Mason knew she was taking a soak, he could just imagine she wearing nothing but a thin bathrobe when she answered the door. A bathrobe like that did nothing to hide her darling figure!
How he wished that he could take a flight to Nihonburg and strangle the life out of John.
Zoe took care of the urgent business and lost the urge to soak in the

hot spring again. So, she took a shower and went straight to bed. Naturally, she turned off her phone, so Mason couldn’t pester her any longer.
Truth be told, she used to wonder if it was still possible for her to reconcile with him. However, that ship had sailed.
He still held a special place in her heart, but she no longer felt the need to put everything down just to be with him.
All she wanted now was to live her single life to the fullest and raise her kids to become wonderful people.
Zoe took a flight to Silvercrest the next day.
She pulled some strings and managed to find Maddox’s place. It was an ordinary home that was less than nine hundred square feet. It housed him and his parents.
They used to be high school teachers, but they had lost their jobs and had yet to find new ones. The fact was that no one dared hire them. So, they could only earn their living by selling some knick-knacks by the side of the road.
Maddox, however, stayed indoors all the time and refused to take a step outside.
His mother had opened the door when Zoe went over. She was quite surprised when she saw her. “Do you have the wrong address, miss?”
Poking her head out and looking into the place, she saw Maddox. So, she said, “I’m here for Maddox.”
Maddox’s mother let her in. Then, she served her tea and apologized to her, “I’m sorry, but we don’t have much to serve you with. You’re the first person to visit him in the past six months. I’m sure he’ll be happy to see you.”
