Maddox sat on the couch and stared at Zoe.
He didn’t know her, but she and Noah did look alike, so he could just deduce who she was. A fire was burning in his eyes, but he toned it down in front of his mother.
“What do you want?”
John was about to say something, but Zoe stopped him. Instead, she merely sat next to Maddox and looked at his busted hands.
After a brief moment, she said softly, “Gwynn asked me to look after you.”
His eyes widened in astonishment.
Staring at her with unblinking eyes, he managed to find his voice after a long time. “How is she? Did Noah torture her?”
He knew from firsthand experience how cruel that man could be.
Pondering on it for a while, she decided to tell him parts of the truth.” She’s pregnant! With my brother’s baby, of course. You should put her behind you, Maddox. It’ll make your life easier!”
Then, a tear fell from his eyes.
He knew he shouldn’t have behaved the way he did, but he lost his cool. Raising his head slightly, he said, “He’s an animal! He doesn’t deserve her. Please, you have to help Gwynn.”
Pulling out a bank card, she said to him, “There’s fifty million dollars here. You could live in a bigger house and hire a private nurse. There’s also your parents to consider. Don’t get me wrong. I’m merely doing this on behalf of Gwynn. This has nothing to do with Noah.”

She was about to leave when she decided she should tell him something.
“If Noah didn’t love Gwynn, then he would’ve set her free when I told him to! However, the fact is that he loves her and he wasn’t about to do it just because I said so. Things are more complicated now that she’s pregnant with his baby.”
That rooted him to the spot.
Rising, she started heading towards the door when Maddox’s mother came over with a tray.
She realized Zoe was leaving and said hurriedly, “Are you leaving already? You haven’t even had your tea!”
Bowing slightly, Zoe said softly, “I’m sorry!”
Maddox’s mother was stunned for a long time. After Zoe left, she turned around and asked her son, “Is she from your college? How have I not seen her before?”
Maddox remained quiet for a long time before saying gently, “She’s Noah’s younger sister. Gwynn asked for her help to look after me and she gave me a bank card with fifty million dollars in it.”
She was beside herself with rage as soon as she heard his explanation. “I refuse to believe that there’s a shred of decency left in any of the Sanders. They’re the reason your hands are like this. So, why exactly would they give you fifty million dollars out of the goodness in their hearts?”
With that said, the bank card was in his hands and it did contain fifty
million dollars.
Three days later, Maddox and his family withdrew the cash and moved to a new place.

Zoe returned to Brookesville alone.
It was close to noon when her flight touched down at the international airport. Just as she cleared customs, she saw someone she had never expected to see.

Lila felt a little sad because she couldn’t have more time with Zoe, but she still responded warmly, “I’ll catch you on the flip side, Zoe.”
So, they bid each other farewell in the parking lot.
