I Refuse to Divorce! by Light Breeze Chapter 491

Chapter 491

Mia spent three nights in the hospital.

By the time she was discharged, it was New Year’s Eve and

snowflakes had begun swirling in the skies. On the way back in the car, she kept blaming herself.

“Age has caught up to me. My legs aren’t working as well as they should! I hate that I keep making your life difficult.

“I’ve thought about it, Zoe. I’ll give myself a few more days until Jamie is three years old. Then, I’ll check myself into the retirement home. That way, I’ll be surrounded by people my age and make some friends.”

Zoe kept her eyes on the road ahead so she could drive safely, but she said, “How I could let you spend the twilight of your life in an old folks home, Mia?!”

She continued softly, “So many things happened lately that I haven’t exactly spent any time with you! Now that Mason’s fully recovered, he could help with the kids and I could take you to travel the world.”

Mia remained quiet after that.

After a brief moment, she said gently, “He’s only just recovered. It’s only normal that he’d want to spend some time with you and the kids. Here’s something you don’t know about men. Once they realize you don’t reciprocate their love, they’ll find someone else who does when enough time has passed.

“I’m not trying to come to his defense, Zoe, but I can tell you still have feelings for him! If you really can’t forget him, then maybe you should try welcoming him back into your life, instead of wasting more time and pushing him away!”

Zoe was already thirty-one years old while Mason was already thirty- five years old.

Both of them were hardly young! They had been through so much and Mia wanted nothing but the best for them.

Zoe knew about all of that. Both she and Mason had made a lot of compromises for their kids. However, she had never sacrificed her love life. She loved him and sincerely wanted to get back together with him each time she returned to him.

Now, she refused to do it because she no longer loved him. It was just that simple.

They were still chatting when her phone rang.

It was Mason.

Answering it, she said softly, “I’ll pick the kids up tomorrow, Mason. I’ll let them countdown to the New Year at your place. Is that fine for you?”

It would be the New Year in just a few hours, but she hadn’t prepared herself for it. Perhaps it was a good idea to let the kids spend the night in his place.

Mason paused for a moment before he asked her, “Did something happen? Do you need my help?”

She didn’t keep it from him. Instead, she said without a thought, “Mia broke her hip! She was just discharged a while ago. I didn’t exactly prepare anything to celebrate New Year. So, it’ll be better if I pick them up tomorrow!”

He agreed to it and said, “Alright! Say hi to Mia for me!”

Then, she hung up the phone.

Mia might’ve been sitting in the backseat, but her ears were sharper

than her age suggested. “Is that Mason? It sounds like things are pretty good between you guys.”

Holding the steering wheel, Zoe smiled dryly. “We no longer hate each other. Moreover, we plan on raising our kids together. I’m not exactly young anymore, Mia. I simply don’t love or hate anyone as strongly as I did before! Sometimes, it’s better to be mellow.”

That was where Mia disagreed with her. “You’re just a little over thirty years old, for crying out loud! This is the prime of your life.”

At first, she wasn’t feeling easy with the way things were, but that call from Mason did make her feel a lot better…

It was snowing out there and Zoe was driving slowly. So, it was already four o’clock by the time they reached her villa.

A thick layer of snow blanketed the ground.

There was a truck in front of her entrance and the deliverymen were moving cartons into her place with Deborah’s help. There were food, utilities, and festive decorations in them.

She didn’t recall buying this stuff. So, she parked her car and got out of it to ask one of the deliverymen about it.

The man in charge said without a moment’s thought, “Mr. Mason sent us here. He asked us to send you some supplies and the decorations he handpicked for you.”
