Chapter 511
Ella looked affectionate and serene whenever she talked about Farley and his daughter.
Staring at her friend quietly, Zoe fell into deep thought. Ella had changed completely. She had become someone akin to Rosemary, capable and independent.
She was happy that Ella turned out like this.
Now that she had brought up Rosemary, Ella insisted that they had to ask her out for some coffee or something. Zoe knew, deep down, that her friend wanted to meet up with Rosemary because she was a friend of Farley’s. Ella wanted to hear Rosemary talk about her late husband so that, in a way, he’d be able to live on in this world.
Then, she left Ella’s apartment.
She couldn’t help but feel sad about Farley. He was such a decent man that it was painful to think that they had lost him. She hated how unfair and indifferent the universe was.
With that said, she couldn’t do anything about it.
It was evening when she went to The One Gourmet’s office building. There was a pile of work waiting for her after the New Year. So, it took her some time to chip away at her backlog. By the time she checked the time, it was already seven in the night.
The neon lights in the city came on outside the window.
Packing up her stuff, she was about to go home when her office phone rang. She picked it up without a thought and answered it gently, “Greetings! Zoe speaking.”
Then, she heard a familiar voice responding to her.

It was Mason!
Darkness streaked across the sky and cast a shadow over the entire city. His voice sounded particularly tender in the black of night, “Are you still working? Aren’t you going to go home?”
She glanced at the phone and snarled, “Did you stalk me, you bastard?!”
That didn’t rile him up.
Instead, he continued to speak gently to her. “I asked John about your location. That’s all. I didn’t stalk you or anything. You’re being oversensitive, Zoe.”
Oversensitive. The word sounded seductive when it came out of his mouth.
Rubbing her brows, she said softly, “Just cut to the chase, Mason. I’m too tired to be wasting time with you.
He could hear just how exhausted she was and felt a little bad about it. He said tenderly, “Do you want me to swing by and pick you up?”
She rejected him. “That won’t be necessary! My chauffeur is waiting for me downstairs.”
He said affectionately, “Well. Go home now. I have a surprise waiting for you.”
She was supposed to hang up the phone right there and then, but she didn’t do it. She didn’t say anything, either. All she did was grip the phone quietly while Mason did the same.
Their light breathing was the only sound on the phone, reminiscent of the moment when their bodies were erotically tangled up with each other. He had breathed into her ears back then. It felt electrifying and
tantalizing.

All of a sudden, she felt as if she was suffocated by a thick, sultry air. Then, she broke the silence and said, “I’m going home. Just give me a holler if you want to take the kids back to your place!”
He didn’t respond to her immediately.
After a brief moment, he asked in a sensual tone, “How did it feel last night, Zoe?”
She didn’t say anything to that. This time, she hung up the phone. Perhaps she shouldn’t have given him the chance to speak. He had always been insensitive and said the most inappropriate things ever. Try as she might, she just couldn’t forget about what happened last night.
The moment she was free and relaxed, she’d be reminded of the big, white hotel bed. She had moaned and begged for him to stop while he was furiously pounding her. Truth be told, it was quite painful, but it wasn’t without pleasure, either.
Half an hour later, she was driven back to her villa.
She had just gotten out of the car when Mia came over with a cane. She looked like she wanted to tell her something, but she bit back her tongue at the last minute. “Just head in there and see for yourself, Zoe!”
