Chapter 272 Persisting in Foolishness

If she had liked Horace, she wouldn’t have played games with him.

The corners of Edmond’s lips lifted slightly at the thought that she had gone to such great lengths just to force him out.

Had he known that she and Horace were just playing games, he would have told her directly that he was still alive, instead of hiding from her for so long with guilt.

“Forget it, I can’t be bothered to argue with a fool like you. Hurry up and get a full medical check-up at the hospital, don’t die young. Everett was the first to step into the hospital. After a few steps, he turned to the person behind him and said, “Oh, by the way, you’d better sell this car. The sooner you get rid of a car that’s been in an accident, the sooner you can shake off the bad luck.”

Upon entering the hospital, the doctor conducted a simple check-up on Everett and found no issues. However, Edmond was required by the doctor to be hospitalized.

“You had two broken bones and needed to be hospitalized immediately.”

Upon hearing the doctor’s words, Everett sharply turned to look at Edmond.

He broke two bones? And he acted as if nothing happened?

Suddenly, Everett couldn’t even utter a word of complaint.

Although he was innocent, someone else had broken a bone, and he had merely had a scare. What else could he say?

“You should get hospitalized immediately, and stop worrying about things outside. I have to work overtime later, so as not to let Yvette notice.” Thinking about the recent wonderful life with Yvette, a hint of pride unconsciously appeared on Everett’s face.

Since learning that he had left his family, Yvette felt very sorry for him and even let him move into her rental house.

Although the room was not large, it gave him a feeling of home.

Edmond lifted his eyelids, giving him a glance, his tone indifferent: “Have you thought about the consequences if Yvette knew that you didn’t break with your family at all, but were deceiving her?”

Everett’s breath hitched, he stammered, “What’s the difference between finding a job in Vencumfield, far away from Wyvernport, and breaking off with my family? Besides, she’s not Claudia. She may seem tough on the outside, but she’s actually soft and gentle. As long as our

relationship gets better and better, she’ll forgive me when I tell her the truth.”

In the end, Everett became increasingly guilty.

In those days, his sweet moments with Yvette were still mixed with lies.

He indeed did not sever ties with his family, not because he didn’t want to, but because he couldn’t. If he really broke off relations with his family for Yvette, his mother would go crazy enough to kill Yvette.

The lies of the present were merely stalling tactics, as he could no longer bear Yvette’s departure.

Seeing Everett still obstinate, Edmond raised an eyebrow, reminding him indifferently, “I remember you once advised me to cherish the people around me and to actively pursue true love. I didn’t expect this to be your way of pursuing.”

Everett was right, Yvette was not Claudia. Claudia couldn’t tolerate lies and deception, but could Yvette truly accept them?

Seeing the certainty in Everett’s demeanor, Edmond didn’t try to persuade him further.

You can’t wake up someone who is pretending to sleep, especially a love-struck brain like Everett’s.

“Take care and get well, I’m leaving now.” As if afraid that Edmond would say something else, Everett patted his butt and left.

Edmond frowned at him, just as the butler sent a message: “Young master, the car has been towed away, what should we do next?”

Edmond replied indifferently, “Sold.”

Waves of pain radiated from his collarbone and ribs. Edmond lay in the hospital bed, sending another message to his butler: “How are things going with the Johnson family’s company?”

The butler hastily sent a message: Mr. Fleming hadn’t had a chance to act before the Enigma organization stepped in to handle it.

Upon seeing this message, Edmond felt relieved.

Grandpa hadn’t given up yet, he was still thinking about having that fool carry on the family line.

If Zyon had really married Arianna, he and Seraphina would never have been able to reconcile, and would have become lifelong enemies.

Fortunately, it didn’t come to that.

At the Johnson’s manor, as soon as Dalton entered the house, the lights inside suddenly turned on.

On the sofa sat a serious-faced Emerson and Melanie.

“Dad, Mom, how…how are you here?”

Melanie and Emerson had always lived in another villa, a hundred

meters away from here. It was now midnight, and by rights, the two of them should have already been asleep…

“We won’t come over, what if you sell our precious granddaughter?” Melanie puffed up her cheeks in anger, “What kind of trash is that Axton, actually letting my granddaughter marry his stupid grandson, I think he’s blinded by lard, can’t see his own pig face!”

Emerson stood up, gently patting her back, his face expressionless as he looked at Dalton, “Is the company issue resolved? Was it really done by someone from the Fleming family?”

~Dalton nodded bitterly, “Not long after I mentioned this to Axton, the

company’s issues were resolved. He had said, ‘I help you solve the company’s problems, you help me solve my grandson’s marriage issues.””

Emerson fell silent, a faint anger flickering across his face.

Marrying their excellent granddaughter from the Johnson family to a fool from the Fleming family was an insult to them.

“Even though I’m not in the business world, some old friends would still give me some respect. Dalton, you shouldn’t have gone to the people of the Fleming family.” Emerson sighed helplessly, looking at his son with regret.

Dalton lowered his head, his heart aching as if being cut by a knife.

He also regretted seeking Axton, but the only ones who could compete with the Ferguson family were the Fleming family.

He was bewitched and without much thought, he went to seek help, even rashly bringing Arianna along. It was clearly like sending a lamb into a tiger’s den.

“Dad, you were right to scold me, I was foolish.” Thinking about everything that happened tonight, Dalton felt utterly desolate.

Had it not been for that yellow Lamborghini, he would have almost died.

Having had a narrow escape from death, I started to see everything in a new light.

“It’s just bankruptcy, at worst we can start over.” He couldn’t bring himself to marry off his well-raised daughter to such a man.

Hearing this, Emerson nodded in relief, “The hump of a starved camel is still bigger than a horse. Even without the company, I won’t end up homeless. I still have some assets under my name. As long as you stick to your principles and don’t do anything against your morals, there will always be a day when you rise again.”

Dalton’s eyes welled up with tears, watching the white-haired old man still worrying about him, almost shedding tears again.

Just then, the sound of a car parking outside was heard.

“Who would come at this late hour?” Emerson asked, his face full of confusion.

The door opened, and Claudia and Arianna hurried in.

“Dad, why didn’t you send me a message when you came back?” Arianna was anxious all the way, thinking that Dalton’s car was still in the company’s garage, but he was nowhere to be found.

It was not until seeing Dalton standing here that the heart lodged in the throat finally fell back into place.

Seeing Arianna, Dalton no longer felt guilty. He lifted his chin slightly and said confidently, “Arianna, don’t worry, your father has figured it out. I absolutely cannot marry you off to that fool.”

Hearing this, Arianna laughed. She pulled Claudia over and said to her own father, “Dad, don’t think too much for now. Seraphina has some good news to tell you.”

Seeing Arianna’s relieved smile, Dalton had a guess in his heart.
