Chapter 196
When Sherry walked out, David was already waiting by the car door, anxiously checking
his watch.
Approaching him, she said, “Mr. Wilson.”
As soon as David saw her, anger welled up inside him. “Where did you go? Everyone
has already left, and you’re the only one remaining. If it weren’t for the lack of public
transportation here, I would have driven myself and left without waiting for you. Do I
really need to wait here and endure the disdainful looks from those servants?”
David pointed at the several security guards standing at the entrance gate.
They all stood upright, never once glancing in their direction.
Sherry understood that David was feeling uncomfortable standing here with a group of
security guards for such a long time.
Sherry didn’t argue with him and obediently apologized, “I’m sorry, Mr. Wilson. I won’t do
it again in the future.”
David didn’t want to scold her in public either, as he still needed to maintain a kind and
gentle image.
“Get in the car first, and we’ll talk later.”
Sherry opened the back door, about to sit inside, when a big hand reached out from the
side and slammed the car door shut with a loud bang.
David’s tone was unpleasant. “You sit in the passenger seat.”
The back seat was usually reserved for someone of higher status. In David’s mind, she
wasn’t worthy of it.
Sherry obediently moved to the passenger seat, opening the door and getting in.
David was somewhat satisfied with her obedience. While driving, he unintentionally
said, “You are more obedient than your mother.”
Sherry asked, “My mother… doesn’t listen to you.”
“Not at all,” David said coldly. “She’s very willful, acting like a princess, although she
wasn’t one. Just because she’s pregnant, she thinks she’s the queen. Moreover, the
child she gave birth to is also useless. It was really the right decision for me to choose
to go abroad. Otherwise, I would still be a poor nobody. You wouldn’t have such a nice
house to live in and so many good things to eat.”
Sherry couldn’t force a smile upon hearing these words.
“What’s with that expression?” David glanced at her.
Sherry wiped her face and took a deep breath. “No, it’s just that I miss my mother. She
passed away when I was born, so I didn’t even get a chance to see her. I can only know
what she looks like from photos.”
“Your mother actually had a decent appearance, very similar to yours. But she wasn’t as
obedient and sensible as Nora,” David said, his expression improving when he mentioned Nora. “Although Nora also came from a poor family, she is very easygoing and knows how to take care of a man. As men, we want someone to treat us like kings.
She does all these things without me having to say anything, taking care of me very thoughtfully. But your mother? She talks about mutual care and consideration. I’m the
head of the family; why should I wash her feet?”
Hearing this, Sherry suddenly had a thought. “Did my mother ask you to wash her feet?”
“Yes!” David replied. “She said she couldn’t bend down with a big belly. I was really
surprised. So many women can bend down when they’re pregnant, but she can’t. Is she
that precious? It’s a woman’s duty to give birth to a man’s child, and taking care of a
man is also a duty. If she had been as obedient as you, I might have really considered
staying.”
Sherry turned her head away and looked at herself in the rear–view mirror. “So, if my
mother had been as obedient and sensible as Nora, would you have stayed?”
David loosened his grip on the steering wheel. “No, a man’s future is the most
important. It absolutely cannot be ruined by a woman.”
“What if my mother had given birth to a boy? Would you still have left?”
David confidently replied, “That wouldn’t have happened if she had given birth to a boy.
Sherry suddenly felt that she had asked these questions unnecessarily.
A man like David probably never treated his wife as an equal from the beginning.
He could pretend to dote on his wife in public, but deep down, he was egoistic and
selfish.
His mindset seemed to be stuck in the feudal era.
She was ridiculous, actually expecting someone like him to have a sense of remorse.
“Mr. Wilson, are Mrs. Wilson and Sophia not coming home with us today?”
David suddenly stuttered, “They… they have something to do.”
“Today was their first time coming to the Martin family, so why do they need to stay
overnight?”
David glanced at her with slight displeasure. “Sherry, do you feel jealous that Sophia
gets to be with the son of the Martin family?
Sherry almost burst into laughter. However, on the surface, she still had to play the role
of a well–behaved and sensible daughter.
“No, Sophia is my cousin. If she can marry into the Martin family, it will be a good thing
for our family.”
David smiled with some relief. “That’s good if you can think that way. Sherry, you should
know that women ultimately rely on men. Look at Nora; ever since she married me, her
life has been much better. If Sophia can marry into the Martin family, then I will also
have more influence in the company. I will be the father–in–law of the Martin family’s
son. Who would dare say anything against me? By then, you will also benefit from it.”
Sherry lowered her gaze and smiled softly. “Mr. Wilson is right. As long as Sophia can
help you, it will be for the best.”
“You too,” David looked at her. “Tomorrow, quickly change into a new outfit. Nora is
good at everything, except for her taste. She bought this outfit that she herself wouldn’t wear and gave it to you. It’s so outdated. Today, I saw you talking to the other son of the Martin family. Do you know him? He even greeted you.”
Sherry didn’t want to involve others and declined, “We just happened to meet outside. It
was just a coincidence; we’re not familiar.”
“A coincidence is also a form of fate, and familiarity grows with time. Furthermore, it
seems that he has a favorable impression of you, or at the very least, he doesn’t dislike
you. Have you exchanged WhatsApp?”
Sherry shook her head. “No.”
“You don’t know how to adapt at all. You should have added him on WhatsApp at that
time. Whether it could develop into something more or simply remain as friends, it
would have been much easier.”
Sherry responded with a nod.
She felt that she was now in a similar situation as Nathaniel’s grandmother, who lived in
the attic.
“Mr. Wilson, you should go home quickly. Joseph is alone at home, and it’s not safe. He
probably hasn’t had a proper lunch.
When it came to her beloved son, David finally ended his lecture and pressed down on
the accelerator. “Yes, yes, I cannot ignore my Joseph.”
