Chapter 197
At this moment, the Martin family is in turmoil. The dinner party that evening ended on
a sour note. Both of their sons had taken an interest in unsuitable girls, which greatly.
angered their father.
Mrs. Martin brought a bowl of oatmeal and placed it in front of him, saying, “I noticed
you didn’t eat much earlier. Have some oatmeal.”
“I don’t have an appetite,” Mr. Martin said, holding a cigarette but not smoking it. He
continued, “I’m really… You see, I was worried that these two kids wouldn’t find suitable
girlfriends, but now they’ve both taken a liking to these two girls. Who would have
thought that one of them is so conniving, and the other, just look at how she dresses?
People will actually believe she dances in nightclubs.”
Mr. Martin was furious, and Mrs. Martin slowly sat down beside him, gently persuading
him, “All parents in the world are the same. When children are young, we worry about their health and education. When they grow up, we worry about their marriages. Especially in families like ours, where both sons are talented, it’s inevitable that some girls with ulterior motives will set their sights on them.”

“Mr. Martin let out a heavy sigh. “If they were truly good girls, regardless of their
background, I’d accept them. Our family isn’t the kind that only cares about business
alliances. If my children like them, I would be happy to see it happen. Why did they both
choose such unreliable girls? It really makes me furious.”
Mrs. Martin smiled gently, using her hand to tidy the embroidery on her dress hem. She
said, almost absentmindedly, “Actually, Nathaniel’s judgment is not bad. Ms. Wilson, I
think she looks obedient and refined.”
Mr. Martin frowned. “Didn’t you hear what Nathaniel said at the banquet today? That girl.
is involved with another man and even got pregnant by him! Can we still call her
obedient and refined?”
“That’s just one side of the story.” Mrs. Martin quickly held her husband’s arm and
explained, “I just found out the truth. There are extenuating circumstances.”
“What other circumstances could there be? She has an engagement with someone
else, and it was even reported in the news; isn’t that proof enough?”
“Don’t be so hasty, let me explain slowly. Mrs. Martin continued to say, “I just confirmed

with Ms. Wilson’s mother, and it turns out that Ms. Wilson is not to blame for this
matter. She used to work at the Ford Group, and because she is attractive and
exceptionally competent, Mr. Ford took a liking to her and started to harass her. When
Ms. Wilson refused, he resorted to pressuring her by having the media publish
defamatory news about her, such as pregnancy and engagement, which were all
fabricated out of envy and hatred.”
As Mrs. Martin spoke, Mr. Martin began to waver slightly.
“Is it true?”
“If it’s what her own mother said, how could it be false?” Mrs. Martin sympathetically
replied, “That Ms. Wilson is quite pitiful. Since she was a young girl, her arrogant cousin
has bullied her. It’s fortunate that she has a good temperament and can endure it.
When I asked her about it just now, she was crying uncontrollably. She even said that if
we didn’t believe her, she could immediately go downstairs and run to prove that she
was not pregnant. It broke my heart to hear her make vows and swear to prove her
Innocence. She’s just a young girl without much background, while the other side is the
CEO of a company. How can she possibly resist?”
Seeing Mr. Martin’s expression gradually soften, Mrs. Martin continued, “Hubby, we also
have a daughter. If our family were constantly subjected to such rumors and
defamation, wouldn’t you feel heartbroken?”
She knew what his soft spot was.
Mr. Martin had always doted on his little daughter, granting her every wish without
hesitation. The thought of someone bullying his daughter triggered his fatherly
protective instincts.
“No, that won’t do. With me as her father, no one can bully my daughter.”
Mrs. Martin smiled faintly. “Yes, that’s what I thought about our Claire, so I feel that Ms.
Wilson is truly pitiful. As for Nathaniel, how could he believe those unreliable rumors?
The girl was his own choice, and he even specially bought a dress for her. I don’t know
who influenced him, but he suddenly changed his attitude, causing the girl to lose face.
When I arrived earlier, I could still hear the girl crying in distress. It made my heart ache
as a mother.”
The cigarette in Mr. Martin’s hand finally burned out. He crushed it in the ashtray, and
his tone improved significantly: “If that’s really the case, then we have wrongly accused
Ms. Wilson.
“It’s just a misunderstanding,” Mrs. Martin said. “Actually, I think Ms. Wilson is quite
nice. She is gentle and virtuous. She didn’t raise a fuss even though Nathaniel insulted
her in front of us. Instead, she went back to her room and cried silently. She can handle
difficult situations.”
Mr. Martin nodded in agreement. “After all, Nathaniel is my eldest son. His future wife
will be the sister–in–law of Patrick and Claire. She must be dignified, elegant, and know
how to carry herself. She can’t be too spoiled.”
“Speaking of being spoiled, that girl Patrick likes is really troublesome. She has always
bullied Ms. Wilson since they were young.” Mrs. Martin coughed lightly and said casually, “You should talk to Patrick about it. Tell him to stop having feelings for that
heavily made–up girl. I’ve tried, but it didn’t work. He only listens to you now.”
Mr. Martin nodded. “Alright, I’ll talk to Patrick about it.”
That night, Nora and Sophia stayed overnight at the Martin family’s house, which was
surprising news in the high society of Herzoslovakia City.
The Martin family was known for their secrecy, so the fact that they allowed Nora and
her daughter to stay overnight meant that the marriage was most likely already
arranged.
Early the next morning, Mrs. Martin personally sent someone to escort Nora and her
daughter back home. As they bid farewell, they held hands and promised to visit each
other often whenever they had the chance.
Nora readily agreed. As long as she could establish a connection with Mrs. Martin, their
future path would be much smoother.
When the two entered their home, Sherry was in the kitchen, preparing breakfast.
Joseph specifically requested lasagna, and David obediently woke Sherry up early to
cook.
After kneading the dough and preparing the filling, it was time to bake.
Nora smiled and said, “It must have been difficult for Sherry while I was away.”
Contrary to Sophia’s polite demeanor, she displayed arrogance as she made sarcastic
remarks, holding her head high and speaking in a triumphant tone. “She’s used to being
a servant, so let her continue. Despite being an adult, she still lives in this house,
enjoying free meals and drinks. She should do something to repay her debts.”
Upon hearing these words, Sherry turned off the stove and sneered, “Isn’t this the
Wilson family? Or has it become the Smith family?”
