Mateo was displeased. He led her to a nearby spot, his nose and eyes showing signs of
irritation.
Sherry was completely absorbed by Maverick. She had completely missed the fact that
her boss’s face had become quite irritated.
Maverick exuded the confidence of someone in a position of authority. He spoke calmly
and handled situations expertly. He was a mature and successful man, which perfectly.
complemented Mr. Sniper.
But then there was his expression.
Sherry had a mental image of Mr. Sniper’s jawline. She was caught off guard previously
and didn’t get a good look at Maverick’s jawline.
“Sherry,” Mateo couldn’t take it anymore, “are you infatuated?”
Sherry was speechless.

Mateo grew even more enraged when he noticed her silence. “Say something!” says

Mateo had a strong and imposing presence when Sherry first met him. Even though it
was only their second meeting, she could tell Mateo had a volatile temper.
“I just thought your brother looked a little like a friend of mine, so I took a closer look,”
she explained.
Mateo, frustrated, inquired, “Is he just a friend or a boyfriend?”
“Mr. Mateo,” Sherry explained, “I’ve already met your brother just now; today’s task
should be considered completed, right? I want to go back now.”
“Do you think $5 million is so easy to earn?” Mateo asked, grabbing her arm.
“What else do you want me to do? Just tell me, and I’ll do it.”
Mateo was rendered speechless.

What exactly did he want to do? He didn’t even know who he was.
He had wanted to invite her for some reason, and then he had waited outside the hotel
early in the morning to check if she had spent the night with someone else.
He would never have come to this banquet today, but when he saw her, he felt
compelled to bring her here and show her to his brother.
He was seriously ill.
Mateo released her arm. “You are free to go.”
Sherry scowled and stood still, not saying anything.
“I told you you could leave; you don’t have to do anything else.”
Sherry took a deep breath and tried her best to soften her tone. “Mr. Mateo, I lost
control earlier; I’m uncomfortable with taking the $5 million, so I’ll return it to you; I still
need to go to the hospital to bring lunch to my uncle at noon, so I’ll leave now; and I’ll
prepare well for the airport car show in the future and won’t let you down.”

Mateo shook the dark crimson liquid within a big glass in his hand. “Are you in a hurry
to go back to the hospital to see your uncle? I thought you…”
I didn’t want to be with him.
He rose to his feet. “I’ll take you.”

“There’s no need; you’ve just arrived; stay a little longer; the bus stop isn’t far away; I can
walk there.”
Sherry felt a strong and imposing presence from the moment she met Mateo. Even
though it was only their second meeting, she could tell Mateo had a volatile temper.
As she stepped out of the private club, Sherry took a few deep breaths.
She had made Mr. Sniper unhappy the last time she tried to uncover his secrets. She
didn’t want to push his boundaries this time, regardless of whether he was a maverick.
or not.
She didn’t want to complicate things for Mr. Sniper.

He was wearing a mask for a reason. And he had also stated that when the conditions
were right, he would remove the mask and reveal his true identity to her.
Sherry walked towards the bus station after fixing her clothes.
She was about to take a few steps when she heard someone calling her from behind.
“Ms. Wilson.”
Sherry spun around to see Maverick chasing after her with her luggage. “You forgot to
take your bag from the seat.”
She stopped and smiled gratefully at him. “Thank you; I was being careless.”
Maverick smiled, a little surprised. “Are you walking alone? Didn’t Mateo send you?”
“He did say he’d send me, but I have other things to do, so I’ll leave first; I apologize for
not greeting you.”
Maverick returned her luggage and seemed to be thinking. “Do you have something to

say to me?”
Sherry was surprised. “No, nothing.”
“Ms. Wilson, if I may ask, you’ve been staring at me since we entered the hall earlier;
have we met before?”
“I don’t think so,” Sherry replied, “but thank you anyway; there are still many people
waiting for you inside; I won’t take up any more of your time; I’ll leave first.”
“Wait,” Maverick said as she stopped, “where are you going? Let me give you a ride.”
Sherry was taken aback. What did he mean by this?
Was he going to confess?
Or was he unhappy with her being Mateo’s girlfriend?
“Let’s go; it’s inconvenient to talk here; we can talk in the car.”
Maverick’s car was different from his younger brother Mateo’s. Mateo preferred colorful

and expensive designs and color schemes, whereas Maverick’s car was more
understated.
Of course, the brand was not understated.
Maverick drove patiently and smoothly. “Where does Ms. Wilson want to go?”
“The Erewhon Hospital.”
“Alright,” Maverick said, nodding and reminding her to “buckle up.
Sherry was surprised. “Oh, okay.”
She had forgotten to buckle her seatbelt.
“Ms. Wilson, you hesitated several times when facing me, could you explain why?”
Sherry furrowed her brows. “Maverick, I’m not Mateo’s girlfriend; I’m just his makeup
artist, and I don’t want to mislead or confuse you.”
Maverick didn’t seem surprised. “It’s no wonder you didn’t look at him once; this guy is

probably very angry today, and women have always surrounded him in the past, but
today he was completely defeated in front of you.”
Sherry sat upright, hands clasped on her lap, like an elementary school student.
“Maverick, may I ask you a question?”
“Please, Ms. Wilson.”
“Do you have a Maybach?”

Maverick burst out laughing. “Your question sounds like something you’d ask on a blind
date: do you have a mortgage? What brand is your car?”
Sherry felt embarrassed. “I didn’t mean that; just…”
“I do have one,” Maverick said. “It’s also black, and all of my cars are black.”
“Thank you for responding,” Sherry expressed her gratitude. “I have another question…
About a week ago, there was a yacht party
there was a yacht party at the beach, and many accomplished
individuals from the business world were in attendance. Were you… there?”
Maverick nodded, briefly recalling the event. “If you’re talking about the incident with
Malcolm’s previous wife, then yes, I was there.”
He paused for a moment and smiled. “By the way, Ms. Wilson, you bear a remarkable
resemblance to Malcolm’s ex–wife.
Sherry was surprised.
“Just joking, I hope Ms. Wilson doesn’t take offense.”
