“I’m used to it,” Sherry admitted. “I’ve been living like this since I was a child. I used to
have to support my sister studying abroad, but now I don’t. The burden is much lighter
than before, and I’m not tired.”
This time, Mateo remained silent.
He drove slowly, occasionally glancing back at her through the rearview mirror.
He couldn’t properly react to Sherry’s appearance since it was too shocking.
Was she really the same unattractive woman from that day?
As soon as she took off her black–framed glasses, he could tell she was attractive. But
in this new dress, she looked completely different. “Good–looking” was an
understatement.
He also noticed that Sherry wasn’t wearing any makeup.
Her T–shirt and pleated skirt were typical women’s attire, nothing out of the ordinary.

White was a neutral color with no distinctive features.
But it was different when she wore this outfit.

Sherry had naturally fair skin, a’s evident from her exposed collarbone and slim legs. Her
features were delicate and lively, and her flawless complexion was even more
noticeable without makeup. She was naturally beautiful.
Mateo chuckled. It’s no wonder she was lovely yet didn’t have a lover. Perhaps this girl
had been through too much and purposely disguised herself as plain to protect herself.
Money and desire dominate men’s thoughts. If she had revealed her true appearance
early on, she wouldn’t have been able to live a normal life.
But she also possessed a valuable quality: she wasn’t swayed by money and remained
true to herself.
Sherry sat next to him, feeling a bit hesitant. She had no idea that Mateo’s mind had
wandered, and she assumed he genuinely found her unattractive, so she remained
silent throughout the drive.

The car eventually came to a stop outside an exclusive private club.
Mateo seemed to be a regular here, as the doorman bowed and addressed him as “Mr.
Mateo‘ before escorting them inside.
“Mr. Mateo, you still haven’t told me what the occasion is today and how I should do
your makeup,” the makeup artist asked.
Mateo regarded her as if she were foolish. “I’m already perfect standing here with this
face of mine. Do I still need makeup?”
Sherry couldn’t answer.
Why did he bring her if she wasn’t here to do makeup?
Based on the people passing by inside the club, Sherry assumed he was bringing a
female friend. “Is it for your female companion?” she asked.
Mateo took her hand in his and wrapped it around his arm. “Aren’t you my female
companion?” he asked.

Sherry was surprised and quickly withdrew her hand. “I’m sorry, Mr. Mateo, but I don’t
quite understand what you mean.”
“Don’t be afraid,” Mateo said, his heart softening slightly as he looked at her like a
startled rabbit.
“Today is a celebration banquet for my brother’s company. My brother is great in every
aspect, but he keeps nagging me to find a girlfriend. He doesn’t even have one himself,
so why should I? He annoys me every time we meet. Can you do me a favor and
pretend to be my girlfriend? I’ll give you an extra hundred thousand.”
Sherry had a feeling she had been tricked.
“Mr. Mateo, I’m just a makeup artist. Why don’t you find someone else? There will be
many girls willing to play this role with your looks.”
Mateo raised an eyebrow. “You don’t want to?” “Five hundred thousand.”
That’s not what I meant.”

“Please, Mr. Mateo, don’t do this. It’s not about the money; I just don’t think it’s right to
deceive others.”

Mateo dismissed her with a wave of his hand. “Enough talking. Five million; I’ll transfer
the money right now.”
Her phone buzzed with a text message.
It was indeed from the bank. A total of $5 million had been transferred.
Mateo took her hand and dragged her inside the private area without further
explanation. “Alright, it’s settled. I won’t eat you. Worst case scenario, we’ll leave early,
okay?”
It didn’t matter if it was okay or not. Mateo opened the door to the private area and
stood in front of everyone.
Sherry finally realized she was in a hallway, not a private room.

The people in the hallway were all familiar faces.
They were all well–known celebrities who could only be seen on television!
“Hey!” Mateo called out from a distance, holding her hand tightly. “I came with my
girlfriend. What about you?”
And the person he referred to as his brother astonished Sherry more.

He resembled the images on the internet, mature and dignified, exuding authority
without anger. He approached her and said, “Hello, you must be Mateo’s girlfriend,
right? How should I address you?”
This voice…
It sounded eerily similar to Mr. Sniper!
But the way he looked at her made her feel like a stranger.

Sherry coughed quietly, feeling a bit uneasy. “Hello, Mr. Morgan. My last name is
Wilson.”
“Ms. Wilson,” Maverick said politely. “Nice to meet you. I’m Maverick.
Mateo proudly raised his chin. “What about my girlfriend? She’s not bad, is she?”

Maverick crossed his arms and chuckled. “Didn’t you say your girlfriend was a
plain–looking woman with black–framed glasses? Did you change her so quickly?” “Ms.,
Wilson, despite the fact that I am Mateo’s brother, I have to remind you that his
girlfriends are usually disposable. You should think carefully if you want to be with him.”
Mateo was displeased. ‘Hey, who scolds their younger brother like this?”
“Isn’t it true?” Maverick massaged his chin and smiled sweetly. “What about Linda, Lucy,
and Amanda? I remember your relationships with them didn’t last more than three
days.

“That’s all in the past. Why bring it up?” Mateo was getting irritated. “Can’t a prodigal
son change his ways?”
Maverick nodded, intrigued. “Sure, I hope Ms. Wilson is a higher–quality anchor that can
keep your ship moored, so our parents don’t have to worry as much about you.”
Sherry listened for a while but still didn’t understand. Were these two gentlemen, one
named Gray and the other Morgan, truly blood brothers?
“He has our father’s surname, and I have our mother’s surname. We’re true brothers, but
why have you been staring at him? Is he as handsome as me?” Mateo said.
Sherry realized this and quickly averted her gaze.
She hadn’t even realized it, but her attention had been solely on Maverick throughout.
She had been searching for similarities between him and Mr. Sniper.
Height, physique, voice, power, and fortune, they all aligned.
Contrarily, Mr. Sniper had contradicted it, asserting that he was not Maverick.
