Chapter 80
Sherry shook her head and leaned against the tree trunk, slowly straightening her body
and avoiding his hand. “I’m fine; I just need to rest for a while. By the way, where is
Malcolm?”
“Don’t worry, he’s gone,” he replied.
Sherry breathed a sigh of relief. “That’s good.”
Mateo blinked, observing the expression on her face. “Are you afraid of him?”
Sherry frowned, a look of disgust on her face. “It’s not that I’m afraid of him, but I’m
afraid of getting involved with him again. If possible, I never want to see him again in
my life.”
Mateo shrugged. “Although I don’t know what happened between the two of you
before, it’s clear that your previous married life wasn’t pleasant.”
“It was terrible,” Sherry said, forcing a smile, “Mr. Mateo, thank you. Twice now, it’s
because of you that I’ve been able to escape from Malcolm.”
Mateo crossed his arms, proudly raising his chin. “Yes, so shouldn’t you be thanking
me?”
“Didn’t I just thank you earlier?” Sherry noticed his displeased expression and added,
“Thank you again, Mr. Mateo.”
Mateo clearly wasn’t satisfied. “Is that all the thanks I get? Just some empty words? I
openly opposed Malcolm for you, and there was an important guest inside that I didn’t
even entertain. Is this enough for you?”
Sherry asked, “Then, Mr. Mateo, how do you want me to thank you?”
“Tell me his name.”
Sherry knew who he was referring to.
Sniper.
“I’ve thought about it for a long time, and I just can’t understand. Let’s not talk about
Malcolm. But what makes that man, who doesn’t even dare to show his face, better

than me? Where was he when you were being harassed by Malcolm? Where was he
when you were pregnant and still had to work to earn money? Is he still a man if he
repeatedly lets his woman fall into trouble? Let me tell you, Sherry, if he were standing
in front of me right now, I would definitely beat him up!”
Sherry opened her mouth, sighed, and said, “He has his reasons for not showing
himself.”
“What reasons?”
“He…” Sherry suddenly froze, seeing the man slowly approaching from a distance.
Biting her lip, she murmured softly, “Why are you here?”
Mr. Sniper, still wearing his mask, reached out his hand toward her.
Sherry naturally placed her hand in his palm, which he tightly held.
His tone was gentle, but Sherry could see the sweat on his forehead. “Let’s go home,”
he said.
Sherry nodded.
“Hey!” Mateo called out to them, and he chased after them. He looked at Mr. Sniper
suspiciously, his eyebrows furrowed. “You’re Sherry’s boyfriend?”
Mr. Sniper also looked at him, his gaze not very friendly. “Yes, I am.”
Mateo sneered, “Well, that’s perfect. I just want to ask you: have you fulfilled your duties
as a man? Sherry has been bothered by her ex-husband. Where were you?”
“Does Mr. Mateo have feelings for Sherry?” Mr. Sniper’s tone remained calm and
indifferent.
Mateo’s face changed drastically, finally settling on a slight redness. He angrily said,
“Yes, I have feelings for Sherry. If you can’t protect her well, then don’t waste her time.”
“Oh?” Sniper chuckled lightly. “So, Mr. Mateo means to say that you can do better than
me?”
Mateo puffed out his chest and said, “That’s right! At least I don’t have to live my life
wearing a mask like you.”
Mr. Sniper nodded, still unruffled. “Then let me ask you: What does Mr. Mateo like about
Sherry? Is it her beauty? Or perhaps her kindness?”
“Both,” Mateo said. “As long as it’s her, I like it.
“So, Mr. Mateo, are you confident that you can snatch her away from me?”
Mateo gave an affirmative reply: “It’s just a matter of time. I will make Sherry
understand my goodness.”
“A matter of time…” Mr. Sniper muttered. “Speaking of time, Mr. Mateo is far behind me.
You’ve only known Sherry for less than a month, right?”
Mateo was hit in a sore spot, but he didn’t want to admit defeat and retorted, “It’s not
much less than you, right? She only separated from Malcolm a little over a month ago;
the time difference isn’t that long.”
“No, Mr. Mateo is mistaken,” Mr. Sniper said. “When I met Sherry, she was still in
elementary school.”
Sherry was instantly shocked.
She looked at Mr. Sniper in disbelief.
Mateo was also the same: “How is that possible? Then she got married to Malcolm.”
“I have accompanied her through more than ten years of time. I watched her grow up,
get married, and then divorce. I used to think that her marriage to Malcolm was her
choice, and I was willing to respect her choice. As long as she was happy, I could
silently stay in a place she couldn’t see, just quietly watching her. But Malcolm
disappointed me.”
“Mr. Sniper, are you… my classmate?”
Mr. Sniper denied it, “No.”
“Are you my teacher?”

“Not really, Sherry. You don’t know me at all, and you’ve never known about my
existence.”
Sherry didn’t understand. “Then why…”
“Because I can’t face people,” Mr. Sniper said with a bitter smile. “My face is unbearable,
I’m ugly, and I’m afraid of scaring you.”
Sherry bit her lip, unsure of how to interpret his words.
She had seen Maverick’s true appearance before, and he was definitely not ugly.
But Mr. Sniper said otherwise.
“So… you’re not Maverick?”
“No,” Mr. Sniper quickly denied. “I denied it from the beginning, starting from the
moment you checked the license plate number at the vehicle management office.
Sherry, I promised you that I would never lie to you.”
- But Maverick has sent me back to the Hilton Hotel several times,
and he even came to dinner parties to help me out

Sherry was still in shock and couldn’t react
Mateo was dumbfounded
But Mr. Sniper had already taken Sherry away from the car exhibition center, and no one
paid attention to his heartache at that moment.
There was total silence throughout the journey
Inside the Hilton Hotel room, the curtains were tightly drawn, casting the room into
darkness.
Mr. Sniper carried her into the room and gently laid her on the bed.
“Sherry..
Sherry was confused. “But Maverick has sent me back to the Hilton Hotel several times,
and he even came to dinner parties to help me out.”
“I’ll explain everything when we get home.” Mr. Sniper lowered himself and carried her
horizontally. “Sherry, let’s go home first.”
Sherry was still in shock and couldn’t react.

“Sherry…”
Sherry nervously bit her lip. In the dimness, she could barely make out his figure.
“Who are you really?” she asked.
“I apologize, Sherry. I still cannot disclose that information to you at this moment,” he
replied.
Sherry closed her eyes and let out a sigh. “Mr Sniper, I’m starting to feel frightened.”
“What is it that scares you?” he inquired.

“I’m afraid of you,” she confessed. “If everything you’ve told me is true, then all these
years, there has always been someone secretly observing me, and that truly terrifies
me.”
Mr. Sniper gently pressed his lips against the back of her hand. “Do not be afraid. I won’t
cause you harm; I will only protect you. If it weren’t for Malcolm’s excessive actions, I
might have never revealed my true identity.”
