Remarrying into Wealth By Bennett Snider Chapter 81

Chapter 81

“But now I don’t even know whose child I’m carrying,” Sherry said. “May I touch

you? In the darkness, without turning on the lights, I want to feel your face.”

Mr. Sniper remained silent for a long time.

Inside Suite 2307 of the Hilton Hotel, there was a deathly silence. Fortunately,

the phone rang. It was Sherry’s phone. She picked it up and saw that it was a

call from Mateo.

Sherry hesitated, unsure if she should answer Mateo’s call at this moment. He

would only be asking about her condition or news about Mr. Sniper. But when

it came to Mr. Sniper, she knew very little herself. What could she use to

explain to others?

“Who is it? Mr. Sniper asked.

Sherry answered honestly, “It’s Mr. Mateo.”

Chapter 81 Fear

“Don’t answer.”

“But he’s my boss. It might be impolite to hang up on him directly.”

“Don’t answer, Sherry.” Mr. Sniper walked over, took the phone from her hand,

hung up directly, and then turned it off, throwing it aside. “Sherry, don’t

answer calls from other men in front of me. I’ll get jealous.”

Sherry took a deep breath, feeling somewhat indignant. “Mr. Sniper, you know

everything about me very clearly, but I don’t know anything about you.”

“What do you want to know?”

“You don’t like me answering calls from other men, but what about y

you? I

don’t know who you are, and I don’t even know if there are other women

around you. For example, when you’re at work, are there other women who work with you? Will you answer their calls? Sophia spoiled my marriage by being close to Malcolm. At that time, I was just a full–time housewife. It’s the same now. I can only see you every night, and I haven’t even seen you in the daylight. I’m afraid that the same thing will repeat itself between us. I don’t

Chapter 81 Fear

have children with Malcolm, so I can leave freely, but now I’m pregnant. I

don’t want to be an irresponsible mother.”

There seemed to be a silence in the air, making it difficult to breathe.

And on the other side, the phone that had already gone black lay quietly in

the corner of the room, never ringing again.

Would Mateo be angry? Sherry couldn’t think of much anymore. Regardless

of whether Mr. Sniper was Maverick or not, her relationship with Mateo was

destined to be that of a superior and subordinate. Even if her future with Mr.

Sniper was uncertain, she already had someone in her heart and couldn’t let

another person in.

“Okay,” Mr. Sniper suddenly said.

Sherry looked up in shock. “What did you say?”

Mr. Sniper took her hand and pressed it against his face. “I said, If you want to

touch my face, you can. But…you have to promise me that no matter what

Chapter 81 Fear

you touch, you will never leave my side.”

Sherry’s hand was pressed against his cold mask, feeling the chill, but her

heart was burning.

He…agreed?

Sherry bit her lip, unsure of how to respond. “This is also what I wanted to say

to you, Mr. Sniper. I know I’m becoming more greedy, making things difficult

for you.

“Greed is a good thing.” Mr. Sniper chuckled lightly, his tone gentle. “Greed

shows that you have me in your heart, Sherry. Your greed stems from your

uncertainty and from your determination to live with me. I understand, but I’m also afraid. Every time I face you, I become weak, not like myself.”

Sherry sighed heavily, lowering her eyes and resting her head against his

neck. “Me too.”

Mr. Sniper held her hand, removed his mask, and gently placed it aside. He

then covered her hand with his own.

The room was pitch black. Without sight, the other senses were heightened.

She could hear Mr. Sniper’s slightly anxious voice and her own hurried

heartbeat.

The portion of his face that the mask was covering was under her palm.

From his forehead, to his eyebrows, and then to his nose, she gently, slowly,

and carefully explored.

Finally, she discovered the source of Mr. Sniper’s “fear“.

On the right side of his face, from below his eye to his nose, there was

palm–sized scar that was rougher than normal skin.

She felt so sorry and sad for him. “Mr. Sniper…”

“Did you feel it?” Mr. Sniper’s voice remained calm. “With a face like mine, how

could any woman be willing to be with me?”

“I’m sorry…” Sherry’s eyes were a little sore, and her hand had already slid

down from Mr. Sniper’s face, hooking around his neck and burying herself

deep in his embrace. “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have doubted…”

Mr. Sniper held her tightly, gently patting her back to comfort her. “Are your

afraid of me?”

The scar was too large and too conspicuous; even just touching it with one’s

hand was shocking. If it were to truly appear in one’s field of vision, who knew

how terrifying it would be?

Sherry shook her head frantically in his embrace. “No, this scar is a part of

you; I won’t be afraid.”

Mr. Sniper sighed contentedly and lifted her up, sitting her on his lap and

gently kissing her forehead. “Sherry, you are too good for me; I don’t deserve

you.”

“How could that be?” Sherry asked. “What do you think of me? Judging by appearances? Besides, the scar is not your fault. If it must be hurtful… Was it a

car accident?”

Mr. Sniper shook his head. “It was a fire.”

“Where did the fire happen?”

7/8

“At home,” Mr. Sniper said. “When I was very young, before I had the ability to

escape on my own,”

Sherry’s heart clenched suddenly, feeling intense pain, and it held him even

tighter. “So you’ve been wearing a mask since you were little?”

Mr. Sniper took a deep breath and whispered, “I’ve always been alone since I

was little, not having to face anyone, so I didn’t need to wear a mask. I’ve told

you before that, before I met you, I was a very lonely person, so lonely that

sometimes I would doubt the meaning of my existence in this world. Why

wasn’t I burned to death back then? If I had died at that time, my first half of

life wouldn’t have been so tragic.

Sherry expressed, “You will no longer feel lonely as I will be by your side, and

Chapter 81 Fear

our child will also be with you.”

Mr. Sniper softly chuckled and replied, “That’s good.”

“There is one more thing…” Sherry hesitated and looked up. “I have a question

for you, and you can choose to answer it or not.”

“Hmm, go ahead and ask.”

“You have always mentioned that you need to complete something before

being completely honest with me and revealing the whole truth. This thing

you referred to… What is it? Is it connected to your scar?”

This time, Mr. Sniper swiftly responded, “Yes.”

She remained silent, waiting for him to continue.

“I seek revenge.”

Chapter 1 Fallopian Tube Obstruction “What did I say? It’s your problem that you can’t conceive! Now that the test results are out, let’s see what you have to say!” Sherry Wilson’s grip on the test report wavered. When she saw the words “Blocked Fallopian Tubes” inscribed on it, she felt a chill from head to toe. After four years of marriage to Malcolm Ford, she still couldn’t get pregnant. Her mother-in-law pointed at her, with a furious look, implying that she was about to devour her. People passing by glanced at her as if she were a joke, pointing and gossiping, adding to the chaos. Malcolm was the only son of the Ford family, and she understood her mother-in-law’s desire for a grandson. So she had silently endured it all this time. “Mom,” Sherry said patiently, “let’s go home and talk.” “That’s my home, not yours. Get it straight! I have never recognized you as a member of the Ford family. You’re not worthy!” Her mother-in-law’s words were venomous. Sherry closed her eyes, feeling helpless. “We are legally married, and we have a marriage certificate.” “I’m telling you, Sherry, divorce Malcolm immediately! You won’t get a penny of the Ford family’s wealth!” As more people gathered around her, the sweltering weather and their piercing stares made her feel even more humiliated. Sherry took a deep breath, feeling helpless and hopeless.
