Chapter 11
“Are you going to keep standing there? Come and sit down,” Alpha Kaiden said, leaning back in his chair.
He watched her like a hawk. Her every movement, her every expression, trying to figure out the girl in front of him. It was almost as if she was a species he wasn’t familiar with. The mystery around her was too much to be solved at one glance.
Anastasia looked at him from under her lashes before nodding and walking to the chair in front of his desk.
“Sit down,” he ordered again, and she did as she was told.
Alpha Kaiden closed the file he was reading before picking a black file. “I have drafted the documents. Read and sign them,” He looked at the girl up and down, and Anastasia narrowed her eyes.
Read and sign? It was as if she had no say in the matter whatsoever. “Alpha Kaiden, with all due respect, can you first tell me why you want me to be your secretary? You can have so many highly qualified people. who would love to work for you. And it’s not hidden that you don’t like rogues. You already know that I am rogue, whether I smell like one or not. So why?” Anastasia asked, her eyes blinking at him, and he smirked.
It was quite an interesting question, and he had the answer to it too, but for some reason, he didn’t want to reveal the truth to her so soon. She already attempted to run away last night. If he told her what he had in mind for her, the poor girl might not even look back before running so far that it became hard to find her.
Thus, he manipulated half the truth of what he wanted from her.
“What do you think? It’s because I can’t smell you. I want to keep you here as my secretary. I hate smelling weird scents. It would be easier to work with someone who doesn’t have a scent than with those horny girls who smell of lust and heavy perfume all the time,” Kaiden said, not at all bothering with sugar–coating his words.
“And what if I turn out to be one of those girls? I can wear heavy perfume too. And you are a fine man. What if I lust you too?” Anastasia asked daringly, trying to find just anything to get away from this weird situation and pack that she was practically thrown into by her wolf.
“Well, if that turns out to be the case, then what makes you think I can’t take down that lust?” Kaiden smirked, playing with his paperweight, and Anastasia took a shaky breath, not expecting this kind of reply from him. She didn’t know if it was just her delusion, but it almost looked like he was desperate to keep her here by any means. Could it be that he wants. something else from her that he isn’t naming? Anastasian gulped at the mere thought.
“Now, if you
have the are done asking useless questions, read and sign it. I don’t
have the whole day for it. You will start working in thirty minutes,”
Kaiden said, and she dejectedly opened the document.
Her body and senses became alert as soon as Kaiden left his chair and started pacing in the room. After how he treated her yesterday, she didn’t trust him and his temper anymore.
“Are they okay?” He came behind her in a split second, and she gulped, her heart increasing its pace.
He was really the most unpredictable alpha she had met so far, but more than that, he had been the most predatory and dangerous one too.
Kaiden smiled at her fast–beating heart, his gaze falling to her chest, heaving up and down as he leaned down from behind her to whisper in.
her ears.
“Are the documents okay, Anastasia?” He whispered, taking a deep whiff of her faint scent that was almost non–existent.
“It-” Anastasia cleared her throat when her voice came more like a squeal of surprise.
“It doesn’t mention my stipend,” She said.
Alpha Kaiden hummed loudly before standing right in front of her, supporting his body on the table in such a manner that his abdomen was almost in front of her face.
“You want a stipend? And here I thought you would be working for free. to compensate for that kiss you took from me two nights ago,” Alpha Kaiden smirked as heat rose to her cheeks, and she looked away, trying her best to avoid looking at his well–built body that was right in front of her.
“How much do you want?” He asked.
The market standard,” she whispered, and he hummed.
As much as I like when people look down and bow to me, I would
ppreciate it if you could talk with your eyes looking at me,” Kaiden said, ind she looked up, her eyes meeting with his hot hazel ones, making her ook away immediately.
‘The contract is okay. I just ” Anastasia nipped her nails.
–
‘You just?” He bent towards her, making her fidget even more.
“I can’t live in that place,” she murmured.
“And why would that be?” Kaiden asked, merely intrigued, and before she could answer anything, he placed his finger under her chin and forced her to look into his eyes.
The touch of his finger immediately sent shivers down her spine, and she clenched her fists to focus.
“Or is it that you want to live with me?” His eyes turned a shade of black hazel, and Anastasia’s pupils dilated.
Kaiden thought like any other girl, Anastasia would be intimidated by his eyes and dark aura, but to his surprise, she smiled back at him.
Anastasia hated it. She knew why exactly he was talking to her like that. It came down to that one kiss, that blunder she had with him to save
herself.
“As much as you are dying to live with me because you liked that one–time kiss, I still love my safety and dignity, Sir,” she nearly spat the honorifics, and Kaiden’s eyes narrowed.
“Is that so? What if I liked that kiss? And what if I want to do it again? What are you going to do about it, Miss Sia?” He asked, his choice of words catching her off–guard once again.
Anastasia didn’t know about other things, but she was sure about one. thing Dealing with him was tiring. His unpredictable nature was too much for her to handle.
–
Anastasia took a deep breath.
She can’t be losing her cool like this. There’s no end to this if she keeps continuing. Right now, she needed to focus on surviving in this situation. and the mess she had gotten herself into.
“I can live anywhere. Out of your pack, where people won’t judge me, would be even better. I left my pack because there they treated me like a plague. It might sound awful and too demanding, but I can’t live in a place with the same energy, Anastasia said, and Kaiden looked down at her, a knowing smirk on his face.
Kaiden bent slightly and grabbed her jaws tightly, making her wince slightly, and forcing her to look up at him.
“Do you
think I am a fool, rogue? I let you stay outside the pack in some cottage so that my security makes one small mistake, and you run away far from here,” Kaiden raised his brows.
Anastasia squared her jaws as she looked at him.
She won’t lie to herself. That was her original plan, and she hated how he was able to read her so easily. It was as if he was literally reading her mind.
“I promise I won’t run away,” She hissed through her teeth because of all the pain his steel–like grip was giving her, and Alpha Kaiden loosened his grip on her jaws, rubbing her chin with his thumb.
“And for some reason, you think I am going to believe a rogue who doesn’t even have a scent for me to tail her if she runs away,” he smirked before tightening his hold, making her look at him with tears brimming her eyes because of the pressure he was exerting. It was worse than before.
She–sniffled to control her emotions. She wasn’t some crybaby.
She looked straight into his eyes, and Kaiden smiled at her resilience, hist eyes glinting with a mysterious coldness.
“I like girls like you,” he leaned forward and whispered into her ears.
“It makes taming them fun,” He said, looking straight into her eyes, their faces only inches apart.
Anastasia bit her lower lip in nervousness, and his gaze shifted to her lips. before he smiled.
“You’ll be living with me starting today, and I won’t hear any ifs or buts. have an apartment out of the pack. I’ll shift you there. You won’t be able to run from there. And mind my words when I said you won’t be able to. It’s because one step on the grounds out of the security when the system is on, and you will be shot on the spot,” Kaiden smirked, and Anastasial gulped in fear.
What did he say? Shot on the spot? She raised her brows, trying her best to stay calm. Things were becoming more difficult than she had thought they would.
He was turning way scarier each time they interacted.
