Chapter 17
Something about her was different. She was a rogue and probably a very sneaky and sleazy one. But still, he didn’t want to see her like this.
Alpha Kaiden looked at the girl who had fallen asleep in his arms earlier.
He placed her on the couch to let her sleep as he watched her like a hawk, trying to figure out this living puzzle in front of him.
The way she was sleeping right now, it was almost as if she hadn’t caught a wink of sleep for some months.
Her brows squinted even in her sleep, and Kaiden noticed how a tear slipped from the corner of her eyes.
“Mom,” He heard her whisper and sighed..
She was mysterious. He has never met a person who has intrigued him. like she has.
First, she kissed him out of nowhere as if he was nothing more than a roadside man she used to save herself from the situation. Then she couldn’t sense his alpha aura when he found her again. She is a rogue herself, yet she killed all those three rogues and saved those human teenagers, even risking her life in the process.
She knew she wouldn’t be able to fight back the most dangerous pack, yet she gave it her best, and even when she was caught, she was resilient
And even though she has told him how she became a rogue and hated pack wolves so much, it was probably her heart that was still of gold and nothing like those rogues that made her different.
Anastasia, such a mystery you are. Kaiden thought as he looked at her hand that was hanging on the side before gently placing it beside her.
She wasn’t strong.
Yes, she looked like she trained herself a lot, but she wasn’t strong, and it showed clearly. However, even after that, he was amazed at how she stood for herself in front of him, the most dangerous alpha. Earlier, he didn’t know the truth, but now he knows.
There was something even weirder here.
This girl was wronged by the pack itself and turned rogue forcefully. Under such circumstances, the council would’ve helped a girl like her if she had gone to them for help, but she didn’t.
Rather, she was staying here all because he threatened her with the council’s name. She said she was looking for a job here, yet she tried to run away when he offered her the job on the silver platter.
Anastasia said that she had information about the rogue head that she wanted to trade, yet she was a suspect in that rogue’s murder that happened in the afternoon.
What was his name again? Carl. Kaiden pinched the bridge of his nose.
Someone else was also in this with her who helped her throw the body. She said she hated all the alphas and wanted to take revenge on her alpha mate, yet as soon as he held her hand and pulled her in for a hug, she broke down like a baby. She broke and shattered in his arms.
And for some reason, for the first time in his life, he felt bad for
someone. Kaiden gritted his teeth, his fists clenched around the armrest of the sofa he was sitting on.
Everything about her was confusing, and what was more confusing was. his wolf’s reaction towards her.
‘What do you think, Atlas?‘ Kaiden asked his wolf, who shrugged.
I am equally confused as you. This girl has entered our lives like a mystery. I can feel her wolf, a connection to her wolf, yet when I try to look for her, nothing appears. Blank. Everything is like a white hazy cloud and smog,’ Kaiden’s wolf said.
‘A connection? What kind of connection?‘ Kaiden probed his wolf more. Could it be the reason they were able to touch her?
‘I don’t know, okay? Maybe it’s her mysteriousness that attracts me towards her. We both know that we are cursed to not have a mate after that dreaded night, but there’s something about this girl that says I shouldn’t let her go anywhere. It was the same reason why I asked you to keep her close. However, I hadn’t thought you would bring her into the house for real, Atlas mused, and Kaiden looked at the girl, who was now curled up in a cocoon ball.
Even he hadn’t thought that he would bring the girl to his house either. This was the first time he brought a woman into his house after he got cursed all those years back. He hated the sight of them. And to say the first girl he brought here was a rogue, something he hates, even he surprised himself.
What plans do you have with her? What excuse would we give everyone
about why we want her near us? And till when? You and I both know how harmful it is for us. We can’t touch a woman like that, remember? We are cursed to not have a mate, either chosen or fated, Kaiden said, still wanting to be cautious.
What if her touch was merely a loophole in the curse, and something bad happened when he least expected it?
‘And funnily, nothing happened when her soft lips touched us, Atlas, reminded his human.
You are right. How could it be really possible? The last time Tiffany tried to kiss us when we were drunk, you almost lost control and killed her, almost wreaking havoc in the pack, and it took a whole team of doctors to control us, Kaiden remembered.
If just a touch of Tiffany’s skin on his lips had such an extreme reaction, why the hell nothing happened when Anastasia kissed him? It was just a peck and nothing deep, but it was still something.
Was she really special?
We will only know when we will try it again. We already know we can hold her, and though we can touch other women too, it’s not intimate like we did with Anastasia. How about trying again?‘ Atlas encouraged Kaiden to go for it, and he glared at his wolf.
‘She is sleeping, Atlas. Do you really want me to kiss a girl when she is asleep? It would be like taking advantage of her. She already thinks the alpha is a monster who forces himself on other women. Let’s not give her more ideas.
Well, will she let you kiss her when she is awake?‘ Atlas asked./
‘Of course not. She’ll probably throw a tantrum. She is not like other girls who desire materialistic things, Kaiden said before he sighed and stood from his place.
He walked closer to where Anastasia was lying on the couch and gulped. With her eyes closed and zero wrinkled lines between her brows, she was quite a beauty. Kaiden sat on his ankles, looking at her closely. He looked at her lips, which were so pink even when chapped. “Just a peck. Nothing more. I am not taking advantage of a rogue girl in her sleep. I am just checking if things are really different with her. Besides, she kissed me without my permission too. So it shouldn’t come off as off–putting. It was just tit for tat situation,” Kaiden pacified himself.
He leaned forward, looking at her eyes continuously to ensure she didn’t open her eyes. When he was sure she was indeed in a deep slumber, he sighed and placed his lips on top of hers. He waited a few seconds, counting to five, before pulling away.
He closed his eyes in anticipation, waiting for the reaction to come. Nothing. Nothing happened.
What the hell was this? Was it just her? Could it be that his curse was lifted? He opened his eyes.
Wait. he can’t make assumptions just like that. This was a serious thing, and he definitely didn’t want an episode of what happened earlier when his wolf went rogue. But how can he find out about it? He will have to confirm it with Tiffany later. He nodded at himself, looking at the girl who was now looking back at him with wide eyes, and he narrowed hist
eyes.
Did she catch him doing that? He looked into her eyes to find the hints. “What are you doing?” She asked, and he smirked.
“Just observing how peacefully you were sleeping on an Alpha’s couch. without a care. You were crying in your sleep,” Kaiden said, and she sat awkwardly before wiping the corner of her eyes.
She didn’t want to talk about it. It was obvious from

“Would you like to eat something?” Alpha Kaiden stood from his place. and walked to the kitchen, and Anastasia looked down at her feet before nodding.
“Well, your nodding isn’t going to help you with the food. Come here and help me,” Alpha Kaiden said, and Anastasia fidgeted in her place.
“Well, I… Uh… I don’t know how to cook anything apart from 2–minute noodles,” Anastasia confessed, and Kaiden looked at her dumbfounded.
“Didn’t you say you used to work in a cafe? And who used to cook food. for your mother? How have you been surviving for so long,” Kaiden asked with raised brows, thinking she was lying.
“I used to work in the cafe as a waitress and help. My mom used to cook food for us, and after I turned into a rogue, I only got to eat one meal at day, and since I am not a picky eater, I just got something cheap from the convenience store,” Anastasia looked at her nails.
“Sometimes, I don’t get to eat anything at all since I have to hide from the pack members, so it hasn’t been a big deal for me,” She ended, and

Kaiden looked at the girl before humming.
He didn’t show her any pity, and she was glad for it.

“Come here. You might as well learn a few things from me now that you are here,” Kaiden said, and like an obedient curious child, Anastasia walked into the kitchen, looking around like Alice in the wonderland.
“What should I do?” She asked.
“What exactly can you do?” Kaiden asked, and Anastasia looked at her feet before smiling sheepishly at him, her smile so unadulterated and pure that Kaiden gulped before he shook out of his daze and narrowed his brows.
“I can wash vegetables,” Anastasia said with pride dripping from her face.
Alpha Kaiden –“…” Why did he think it idea to bring her here. again?

Meanwhile, Tiffany, who had heard that Alpha Kaiden was in his second house and wanted to report about the rogues that tried to invade their pack as spies again since it was a serious matter, clenched her fists.
She couldn’t believe the scene in front of her.
After everything she did and how she warned the girl to stay away from her alpha, that b*tch still managed to woo him.
Tiffany glared at the girl, who was smiling after getting a kiss from her alpha, the report in her hand crumbling.
It looked like, rather than killing those rogues, she would have to use them to discard this b*tch. Tiffany turned around, her wolf itching to come out. She didn’t want to betray her alpha, but her alpha wasn’t being good by kissing a rogue, either.
If he wants to kiss her, he might as well kiss her dead body. Tiffany smirked before pulling out her phone to call her subordinate.
