Chapter 44
Anastasia leaned on the side of the wall near the balcony as she looked at nothing in particular, her heart still a raging mess.
She didn’t know what to feel or do anymore. It was almost like someone snatched the purpose of her life from her. She slid the door and walked out before sitting down near the plant pots.
Pulling her legs closer to her chest, she placed her head on her knees, tears sliding her eyes in an uncontrolled waterfall.
She had always thought that it was because of what Jackson did to her that her mother committed suicide. Anastasia always blamed him, but in the end, wasn’t it
all for her?
Her mother suffered so much to protect her from the witches and the world. She didn’t want anyone to come for her daughter.
It wasn’t anyone else. It was all her. Everything wrong happening in her life was all on her. She was preparing so hard to avenge her humiliation and her mother’s death from her Jackson, and that was her motto to live and become stronger and train like a robot daily.
But now what? How should she avenge it from herself? Her mother wanted to be happy and live a peaceful life, but what has she really been doing?
She still didn’t want to forgive Jackson for what he did to her or wanted to do with her, but it didn’t feel too big to waste her entire life on it anymore.
Anastasia pulled out her phone and scrolled through the call logs, the name of Alpha Kaiden was on the screen, making her take a deep shaky breath.
She even left him, a man willing to let down his ego to make her happy, for her so–called revenge, but in the end, she was left alone with nothing more than pain. With a deep breath, she dialled K’s number and waited for the person to pick up. “Ana,” K said, and Anastasia looked at the forests from the gap between the steel. railings.
“You don’t need to look for anyone anymore. The information about the rogues, it was….it was actually for the alpha of a pack, and I don’t want to keep you in the dark anymore,” Anastasia said.
She did not want to say that the information was for the council so that she wouldn’t entirely expose herself while telling the truth to her friends too.
“And?” K asked.
“Didn’t you hear me? You don’t need to look anymore,” Anastasia said, and K. sighed.
“What I am trying to ask is- why I should be bothered whether you are someone’s spy or looking for information for your benefit or because you want to kill the

rogue head. You pay me for my work. That’s enough for me to keep my mouth shut and keep working,” K said.
“But… but aren’t you angered that I kept the truth hidden from you and-”
“You have also hidden that you have a wolf and a very strong one at that. I felt the presence when you killed Carl, so why does it matter? Don’t we all have a few secrets to protect? Isn’t that why we are working together? Because you don’t interfere with my life, and I don’t interfere with yours.” K asked as he looked at his men to kill the rogue at hand since they were done interrogating him.
Anastasia didn’t have anything to retaliate to his reasoning, and she nodded with a stiff smile.
“Very well, keep looking and adding to that file. I will come to take the file once I am done here. I will wire you the money at the same time,” Anastasia said before
she wiped her tears and end from her place.
She found her purpose in her life. If she can’t be of use to herself, she would be of use to the council, the council that her mother trusted with everything, and the council who stepped forward to help her as soon as she left the pack.
She will become their permanent spy. Anastasia nodded to herself, ready to accept. the offer of the council head. the council head.
‘Asia, have you really thought about it? This is a big decision. Once you are
declared as the spy, you can’t turn back. Even if you leave this position later, you will be only known as the spy. People will be wary of you, and you might have. problems making friends, and your life will become even harder than before, Dione warned Anastasia, but the latter only smiled.
“I know, Dione. I know what I am doing. Don’t worry. This time, I am serious. This is what I want to do. I will avenge what happened to me, but I won’t lose the purpose of my life. My mom would’ve loved that. She always knew I wanted to go into combat but couldn’t because of all those jobs I took at an early age, Anastasia said, and she walked to the door of the room.
She was about to open the door when someone pulled it open from outside, and she looked up at the man, her eyes immediately relaxing when she saw who it
was.
“What was that all about?” Draco asked, and without waiting for her reply, he pulled her in for a hug, making her place her hands on his torso,
“I am ready,” Anastasia said, and Draco pulled her away to look into her eyes, his eyes asking what she was talking about.
“I am ready to take the position,” Anastasia made it clear, and Draco smiled wide. “You made a good decision. I assure you that you won’t regret it,” Draco said. before he pulled her out of the room, pulling her all the way to the guest room on the fifth floor where she was staying.
She didn’t ask him anything. She didn’t need to. Maybe he was taking her to her
room because they didn’t want her to get into any kind of trouble with any alpha who was starting to arrive one by one.
There were still two hours to the party anyway.
However, as soon as the door opened, she raised her eyes as she noticed two maids standing by a large rack of clothes, or should she say fancy party gowns? “Choose one of them. There is no such theme. I personally liked the red one with the least puffy skirt. It will bring out your features and will make you look enchanting –”
“But why?” Anastasia asked.
“Why? Hey, you can’t act dumb right after you accepted the offer,” he mused before sighing.
“Didn’t you hear what my dad said? He will introduce you as the official council member. You will be part of the council chambers. Do you want to be there in a pair of jeans and a top when everyone around you would be dressed almost royally?” Draco asked.
“Does it matter? It’s not like my presence needs to be there. You guys can just announce my name. Are spies really introduced like that? Doesn’t it take away their secrecy? I haven’t heard of any other spy being introduced like this. Why am I an exception?” Anastasia asked one after the other, and Draco pressed his lips. into a thin line as he looked at her.
“Well, you will be a special kind of spy who wouldn’t join the council and still live your rogue life, so it’s necessary. Now, stop eating my brains. Get ready so that you can eat something real at the party,” Draco didn’t wait for another second and left the room in a hurry as if he was afraid he would say something that would spoil everything.
Something like how she was going to work directly under them and that their father was going to ask her hand in marriage for the boys.
Derek saw Draco coming out of Anastasia’s room in a hurry and quirked his brows.
“What is it?” He asked.
“Her questions can be really detailed and annoying sometimes. Don’t tell her the truth. She will run away if you do,” Draco warned him, and Derek chuckled. awkwardly.
He wasn’t planning to anyway. Derek walked to her room and looked at the girl who was looking at the dresses as if they were the biggest assignment she was given and smiled.
“The red one indeed looks good,” Derek said, catching Anastasia off–guard.
“Geez, what are you doing snooping like this? Aren’t you guys too free for the next council head’s?” She asked as she touched the fabric of the red dress that both the brothers recommended.
We will always be free for you,” Derek said, and Anastasia smiled.
“I didn’t know the council was giving training in flirting to their people,” Anastasia commented before she pulled out the dress.
“I will come here to escort you,” Derek said after a dragging silence.
“I’ll come alone. It’s my identity,” Anastasia left no room for discussion, and Derek sighed before nodding and leaving.
After 3 hours
Anastasia finally stood from the stool, her gaze fixated on her own reflection.
Staring back at her was a pretty woman, wearing a beautiful red gown, the most beautiful clothes she had ever worn in her life. Her hair was done in a loose messy bun with messy French braids on both sides of her head that lead to the bun. Some of the strands of her hair were let loose to fall on her back and the side of her neck. She had logged sparkling bred eyeshadow on her eyes along with soft makeup.
Her plump lips had a soft peach lip gloss since she didn’t want to go with any lip
tint.
She was wearing long hanging earrings that reached her neck, a silver bangle in her hand, along with the locket that her mom had prepared for her.
Anastasia wore her nude heels and sighed.
After Derek left and she sent away the maids once she had chosen her dress, she took a nap to collect her emotions and get ready for the big party that would be full of cold–domineering, cold–domineering unsympathetic alphas.
She was fashionably late for the party.
She quickly used the lift to reach the ground floor where the banquet hall was on the back side of the main living hall.
She took a deep breath, knowing all too well all the eyes would be on her once she walked in there because she was still a rogue.
Anastasia sighed and looked at the guards of the hall who already knew her. In fact, most of the council knew her.
They acknowledged her and smiled encouragingly, making her nod at them as she clenched and unclenched her hands.
“Let it be done,” She stood at the entrance of the hall, her eyes immediately leaving any trace of nervousness and uneasiness.
What was left in her gaze was unyielding confidence.
It didn’t take longer than a few seconds when everyone’s gaze started to turn to her, but she focused her gaze on the two men standing on the stage, who immediately looked at her.
“She is here,” She heard Derek’s voice in the silent environment, and she tilted her
head.
“Come, sweetheart,” Timothy, who was the closest to her, walked to her and held her hand as he led her inside the hall with all the alphas.
“This has to be a joke. What is a rogue doing here?” She heard a voice, but she didn’t let it affect her.
Rather, she took a deep breath and let Dione release some of her powers and dominance into her that she had suppressed earlier.
Her eyes became sharper with each step she took, and many powerful alphast immediately felt her presence a bit overbearing.
Timothy gave her hand to Derek, who immediately descended the stairs of the stage to help her while Draco walked behind her, helping her with the skirt. Everyone watched in sheer amazement as the unyielding and cold sons of the council head were helping this rogue as if she were some kind of royalty.
Once she was on stage, she turned to everyone, her gaze sweeping at everyone one by one until it stopped at one man, the man who became the reason she chose this path.
An evil smile appeared on her face, and Jackson narrowed his brows.
What the hell was this rogue doing on the stage? Everyone has the same thought. However, they didn’t have any time to react to anything as the ultimate presence appeared at the entrance of the hall.
His powers were so overbearing that even Anastasia felt her goosebumps rising when she looked at him.
He wasn’t even doing anything, just looking at something on his phone, and she gulped.
Right..how could she forget that she will have to face him too?
“Everyone, Alpha Kaiden Blackthorn,” The guards announced, the only divine. presence that no one could look down upon.
Alpha Kaiden finally looked up from his phone as he started descending the stairs, every step he took made people start to bow to him.
All the betas had their heads bowed while the elder alphas nodded at him in respect while some young and new alphas bowed to show him the respect he deserved.
And why not? He was the named monster of the werewolf world.
They could practically hear Anastasia’s heartbeat picking its pace, and everyone thought it was all because she was afraid of the alpha. She was a rogue after all.
However, only Anastasia knew what she was feeling while looking at the man who wasn’t even looking at her.
She felt her hands getting sweaty as she turned to Draco, who was already looking
at her with narrowed brows.
His expression was clear. He knew something was wrong with her and it wasn’t just related to fear.
“I… I need to use the restroom,” Anastasia whispered, and she turned around to leave from the left side of the stage, but before she could move another step, someone held her hand and pulled her back with a jerk, making her gulp. She didn’t need to know who this man was. His overbearing cologne was more than enough.
“Where are you going, rogue? The game party has just started,” Alpha Kaiden’s voice was cold, with no hint of care in his voice.
Anastasia gulped nervously. Of course, she expected that after she left him hanging like that and rejected his proposal twice. She closed her eyes and turned to face him, his shining animalistic eyes, making her want to run away and hide somewhere, all her confidence crumbling at his one look.
