“Hey,” Nikolay said, smiling as he walked inside the room after his mum.

I was laying on my side, and I placed my hand on the bed to sit up, but I was taken by him stopping me when he put his hand on my shoulder as he rushed to my side. His gaze was soft though I could see a lot of pain in his
eyes.
“You need to rest, I just came to check on you.” He said, and I nodded. He ran his finger over my shoulder as he sat on the edge of the bed beside me, gently comforting me. “How do you feel?”
“A bit tired, but I am fine. I just showered and freshened up. Your mum has helped me out with washing my hair, and thankfully, not getting the casts messed up.” I said, and Nikolay smiled. He gently massaged my shoulder and I sighed feeling him loop his finger with a strand of my hair. It has been a while since I was able to touch or brush my hair, and I knew that it was losing its life as days went on. I hadn’t been able to take care of it as I used to, and I knew that it would be affecting me.
“You know, every time I look at you, I truly do regret hurting you the way that I did.” He said, making me frown in confusion. I shook my head in question, not really sure how that was related to any context that we were initially speaking about, but he didn’t really bother answering. “You are an angel sent to me, and though I really don’t know how to explain it, you truly are my angel.”
My heart skipped a beat as I heard his words, and I couldn’t help but worry about the heart monitor showing it. I had asked why they still had it, but it seemed like none of the doctors answered, and it didn’t take me too long to know that I was also injured some place else, it was just that they refused to tell me. I knew that they wouldn’t be keeping me here for this. long if not.

“Nikolay, the two of us are already past all of that” I said, and he shook his head.
“I have done too many mistakes, and one of them has led you here, I know that you are going to tell me that things were not my fault, and that it was your father. Indeed, it is that prick that you still call father, but I can’t bring myself to forgive or forget what was done.” Nikolay said, and I sighed, forcing myself to sit up. I extended my hand, though casted, and though I knew that I wouldn’t be able to feel his skin on mine, and watched as he placed his hand in between them.
“There comes a time when we really have to forgive ourselves for what happened. I have allowed things to get this far. I could have stopped my dad from treating me the way that he did years ago, I could have found a way to report him, to leave, I am not a child, and I do have my own money and security somehow. But I never did. I was always afraid of trying to fend for myself. I don’t know, maybe it was the fear of losing my family or the fear of just being alone and resented. There were so many things that were built up on that, but I never did anything, and that is something that I know for fact.” I said, and he looked down at our joined hands before removing his hand from mine and cupping my cheeks.
My cheeks reddened, and I couldn’t help but feel embarrassed about how ugly I looked. Though I knew that I was healing, I knew that my face was nowhere near to back to what it was before. However, the way Nikolay looked at me, and touched my cheeks despite the few cuts, I couldn’t help. but find myself wanting to shy back.
He leaned in and gently connected his lips with mine, making my heart swell with feelings that I could neither express or understand. He pulled away to look me in the eye, and I couldn’t help the small smile that formed on my lips despite the state that I was in.
It was a smile that reached my eyes for the first time in days, if not months, and one that even Nikolay saw through.
“Do you want to get some rest, princess? I’ll let you go to sleep, and then. when you’re awake, how about I take you out to the hospital’s garden? See

if you can see something different instead of these four walls?” Nikolay asked, the new nickname making my eyes widen in surprise. Noticing that, his eyes softened as he ran his finger over my right cheek.
“Do you have anything to do now? I mean, are you going somewhere?” I asked, feeling somewhat hesitant. I didn’t want him resenting me for asking, but I also couldn’t help but want him staying by my side for just a little while longer.
“I have something to tend to real quick, but I would be back before noon.” He said and I nodded, feeling my face drop a bit. He smiled at that and leaned in to peck my lips, smiling into the kiss. “I won’t be long, I promise.”
“Alright, I’ll be asleep, but please, when you do come, can you wake me up? You know, if you find that I am asleep I mean?” I asked shyly. I have been having a habit of sleeping in for hours that I never thought I could sleep, but it could probably be me trying to kill time.
“You need to rest to be able to heal. So, I would come, and if I find you asleep, I’ll lay by your side and hold you in my arms, how about it?” He asked, making my cheeks redden. He chuckled at my reaction but still waited for my response. I had to admit, this room was the first one that I have seen with a queen bed in a hospital room, but I quickly knew that the bed was put her by Nikolay for me, and it was something that I was actually grateful for. But this was the first time that Nikolay offered to stay with me on the bed. Usually he would either sleep on the couch or the chair by my side.
“It would be nice for us to do so.” I said shyly and he smiled.
“Yes, because I want you to start getting used to it. You know, the two of us are going to start sharing our bed when you’ve healed and it is time for you to come home.” He said, making my cheeks redden more than they already were. He smiled and leaned in to kiss my forehead, letting his lips linger there for a few seconds. “Now, get some rest, I will be back in a bit…
