Chapter 163
He called out to her. “Wait a minute!
Turning around, Mason took a document out of the car and gave it to her, “The court has decided on a date for Noah’s case. It falls on the beginning of next year.”
Zoe took it, read it repeatedly, and mumbled, “Geez. That’s a long
time.”
Looking into her eyes, he spoke softly, “Are you going to file for divorce when the court case is over?”
She didn’t give him an exact answer, but that was about the size of it.
His eyes grew darker as a strong gust blew past them and tousled his hair. Top that off with his white shirt and the deep gray windbreaker, they were tied to form Zoe’s favorite sight.
Staring at her intensely, he said, “Didn’t we have a good run a while back? We could’ve had one or two babies in another two years, Zoe. We could have a better, happier life than most people!”
Her grip on the documents tightened. After a brief pause, she nodded slightly and said, “It sounds tempting! However, I’d have to tear down and reform myself, Mason.
“I’d have to cry as I swallow the pain and hide them away so that nobody can see them. I’m required to wear a mask if I’m to remain as your wife. I have to fool myself in order to feel an ounce of happiness.
“I know you won’t let me raise our children, even if we have any. You’ll twist and turn them into the person you want them to be. Just like the way you controlled me!
“My outfits, makeup, hairstyle. I have to do all of them to suit your
taste! I don’t want that for my children. I don’t want them to lose themselves and live only for your praise.”

Mason’s eyes darkened. Then, he said gently, “How about we start changing our ways with Sherry, Zoe? I’ll let you raise it and I’ll never question you. All I’ll do is be its daddy. You call the shots for everything.”
When men displayed a level of tenderness nobody had ever seen, they could be quite persuasive. When a man like Mason did that, it was
irresistible.
To make matters worse, it was what Zoe wanted when she was
young!
Still, she had no choice but to put it behind her. She had to forget what she wanted when she

She murmured, “I’m sorry. I don’t want that.”
Then, she turned around and left. There were tears in the corner of her
eyes.
Standing in the chilling wind, Mason saw her tears. It was a tactic, but he couldn’t deny that he was moved by it. He loved talking to Zoe like this. He loved to see her baring her soul with a gentle tone, even though they were unpleasant to hear and that she was leaving him.
Sherry barked twice in his arms. He was about to open his car door when he heard a scream from upstairs. It was Mia.
“Ambulance! We need an ambulance! Please help me carry him.”
Putting the puppy into his car, he left a crack in the window open and shot a glance at Mia before charging upstairs. The elevator was out

of order. So, he took the stairs instead.
Their door was wide open. Gordon had just had a heart attack. He was lying unconscious on the living room floor. Zoe was trying to resuscitate him. Tears in her eyes, he crossed her delicate palms and pressed hard on Gordon’s chest while screaming, “Dad!”
“Let me do it!” Mason took off his windbreaker and patted her hands, signaling her to let go. He graduated from a medical school and took a finance course while he was studying abroad. That meant he was way better than Zoe at resuscitating a person.
Not long after, Gordon began breathing again.
“Dad!” Zoe was so happy she cried. Her father gave her the scare of a lifetime.
Straining his eyes, Gordon looked at Zoe and then at Mason, who was right next to her.
