Chapter 181
Zoe went to pick up Ella from the hospital.
The chauffeur had just pulled over when someone opened the car door. Zoe was surprised to see who it was.
It was Leslie.
Standing in the snow, he looked disheartened. Zoe didn’t know what
to say when she saw Leslie again, so she sat quietly in the car.
In the end, Leslie was the one who spoke first.
“We need to talk, Zoe!”
Zoe sat in a coffee shop by the street and looked at the snow piling up outside through the glass, all the while stirring her coffee absentmindedly.
Leslie asked, “Is she doing well?”
Snapping out of her reverie, she looked at him. He was still dressed nicely and looked impeccable. There was a pack of cigars in his hand, but he didn’t smoke any because it was a non-smoking coffee shop. It was obvious he was kind of irritated.
She stopped stirring and took a sip of the coffee. She didn’t raise her
eyes.
Instead, she kept her eyes on her coffee and said, “Every time I drank coffee with Ella, she’d say that she could never get used to coffee because of how bitter it was. Still, she’d always finish it. It wasn’t because it tasted good to her. It was because she didn’t want to let it go to waste.

That was why Zoe felt sad for her friend.
She went to Ella’s ward and saw that everything had been packed. All they were waiting for now was to get discharged. She tried to hide it. from her friend, but Ella had always been able to see through her.
Ella asked, “Did Leslie come looking for you?”
Zoe grunted in reply and Ella didn’t follow up with another question.
What was the point? He had given her the fifty-million dollar cheque. That marked the end of their relationship.
However, they still saw each other at the hospital entrance. A road was all that stood between them. Leslie just stood there wordlessly, a cigar in between his fingers. With a wisp of smoke about him, he stared at her intensely.
In a dazed state, Ella recalled that they hadn’t really met each other in public places. They usually spent their time having sex and doing nothing else.
It was a rare occasion, but it’d be the last as well.
She opened the car door and got into it, giving Leslie a clear view of her side profile. The hearing aid was especially hard on his eyes as it caught the sunlight and reflected it.
He covered his eyes, no longer having the heart to keep looking at
her. How could he? Ella cared a lot about her looks.
As chauffeur arted the car, Zoe held Ella’s hands.
said, her vie unsteady, “It’s all in the past! I’m fine, Zoe!”

Zoe sent her home and spent the better part of the day with her friend.
Evening rolled on when David gave her a call. There was going to be a concert in the next two weeks and Aiden had decided to let her be the first one to perform. She’d need to travel to Hucksburgh and get a feel of the music hall there.
