The next morning, Mason received a call from the hospital. It was Lilith’s doctor, Dr. Zahir. 

“Ms. Lilith wasn’t feeling too well last night, but she’s bounced back after our vallant efforts! Of course, I can’t claim credit for it on my own. It took an entire team to do it.” 

Leaning on the couch, Mason rubbed his brows. “What about Zoe? Did her fever come back?” 

Zahir started stammering at that 

Sitting upright, he asked, “What happened to her?” 

Zahir a chill down his spine. Did he bet on the wrong horse? 

Lilith the lady Mason cared most about in the world? Was it ly Zoe, his legitimate wife? 

wouldn’t dare lie to Mason, so he said. “Ms. Zoe started having termittent fever episodes, but we’re short-staffed. Fortunately, your servant was very capable. She used the traditional way to bring down her body temperature. Ms. Zoe is doing fine and feeling much better 

now! 

Zahir tried to make light of the situation, but Mason flung a crystal ashtray across the room. 

He couldn’t believe what he was hearing. His own wife had repeated fever episodes and needed to use traditional methods to bring down her body temperature in the hospital he owned! 

He couldn’t even begin to imagine how much pain she must’ve gone through! 

Rising, he was about to leave when the diamond cufflinks caught his

Walking over, he bent down and picked them up. There were stains of tears and blood on them. They looked dull and unassuming. Any 

radiance they once had was all but lost. 

Did Zoe buy them for him? 

She asked him to come home earlier two nights ago. It turned out she wanted to give him this present. She even put on a provocative silk bathrobe to please him. Being the fool that he was, he said 

something nasty to her. 

“Even this bathrobe you wore to seduce me was bought with my money!” 

Zoe grew up in a wealthy family. That must’ve been the first time she had heard such harsh words! 

Raising his head slightly, he kept a lid over his emotions and put the pair of cufflinks into his coat pocket 

By the time he arrived at the hospital, Zoe was awake and Ella was 

with her. 

She had received news about her friend’s condition and came right over. Zoe was still unconscious back then. There were all these bruises all over her body. 

Ella outright wept at the sight. She even hated herself for what she said to Zoe that day.

That was what she had said when Zoe left her ward, but this was how Mason treated her. It stood to reason that she lost it the moment she saw Mason in Zoe’s ward.

Dashing at him, she grabbed his coat’s collar and her eyes turned red. “Do you have any idea how much she suffered last night? She was in so much pain that she called out your name when I came by! 

“Look at you… I’m sure you’re busy attending to your sweet mistress, planning her funeral! It’s fine if you save your precious mistress, Mason, but Zoe is still your wife. At least treat her with some dignity!” 

She was shaking him so violently that her own hearing aid fell off. Without her hearing, her cries became strange again, but she didn’t notice any of that. All she could think about now was Zoe. Her best friend was treated like a piece of trash… 

There wasn’t a lot that Ella could do for her, but she tried to speak up on Zoe’s behalf nonetheless. The fact that her actions wouldn’t 

matter didn’t stop her in the least. 

That brought tears to Zoe’s eyes! 

Rushing over, she hugged Ella and said softly, “Stop it, Ella! I’m okay!” 

Ella couldn’t hear her. She merely leaned on Zoey’s weak shoulders and cried in a strange voice, “He’s just a bastard!” None of what she said was audible, but they meant the world to Zoe nonetheless. 

Picking up her friend’s hearing aids, she put them on for her and wiped away her tears. 

“Don’t cry!” 

She made sure that Ella was calm before looking at Mason. She was exceptionally calm. There wasn’t even a trace of hatred in her eyes as she spoke. 

“I’ll get myself discharged from the hospital and make room for Lilith. It goes the same way for our marriage, Mason. I’m also going to make room for her to become your wife. Here’s wishing the both of 

ach other until the end of time!”

He frowned. “Last night was a mistake. The truth is…” 

She cut him off and smiled nonchalantly, “The truth is you asked the entire hospital to stand by and do everything they can to save her and only her! What a grand gesture, Mason. Honestly, I don’t even care

“What bugs me is that you expressed your undying love for her and showered me with honeyed words at the same time. Don’t you ever get tired, Mason? How do you figure that there can be three people in a functional marriage? I was a naive fool in the past, but no longer. “Also, there are a lot of hospitals in Brookesville. I don’t need to stay in yours.” 

Turning around, she started packing up. He stepped forward and grabbed her wrists. 

“Let me explain, Zoe!” 

Then, he took the pair of cufflinks from his coat pocket and put it down before her. He said in a soft, affectionate tone, “Is this my birthday present? Did you plan to celebrate my birthday in advance that night?” 

That was why she dressed provocatively. She had been trying to please him!
