Chapter 190
There was a lump in Mason’s throat. This was the kind of life he wanted when he won her back. This was how he wanted her to treat him, but all she got in retum was him humiliating her!
He proceeded to beg Zoe to give him one more chance.
She stared at the pair of cufflinks, stunned. They were proof that she decided to love him again. It was also a painful reminder of how stupid she was.
She was so happy when she bought them for him, but she was also humiliated terribly when he forced himself on her in the study!
Her voice was soft when she spoke in a daze, “No more! I won’t be that stupid anymore! It’s over between us, Mason!”
It hurt her, but she still packed up her stuff, ready to leave. Ella was occupied with handling her discharge procedure, so there were only two of them in her ward. She took off the patient’s gown as well as her bra and her underwear. As she said, she’d give him back all of the branded things she bought with his money!
Not bothered by the fact that he was in her ward, she took off her branded clothing and undergarments piece by piece, as if she were a robot with no emotion. Then, she slipped into the ordinary clothes Ella had bought for her.
She didn’t cry. She acted gracefully throughout her entire process.
Then, she said softly, “We might not be able to remain a couple, but I don’t wish to become the kind of former couple that hates each other, either! Life is long. We simply don’t have to waste another second on each other. I’ll be waiting for your answer!”

Mason tried to grab her arm when she brushed past him, but she was moving too fast. He didn’t come to his senses before she got all the way downstairs. Her branded clothes were
folded neatly and put on
the bed.
She had brought with her a lot of stuff when she married him back then. However, she would rather give him her own undergarments to prove a point when she decided to leave him today. Just how resolute was she in leaving him?
He clenched his fists at the thought of it. The diamond cufflinks scraped his palm so hard that it hurt him a lot. That begged a question.
Did she experience a much higher level of pain last night?
Zoe walked out of the hospital. She had decided she’d leave Mason and return to her rented apartment. What she didn’t expect was that Lilith would stop her at the road in front of the hospital entrance.
Lilith was supposed to be someone who was on the brink of death, but she was determined to hurt Zoe one more time.
Grabbing Zoe’s hand, she bawled.
“You’ve got it all wrong, Zoe. He was merely concerned about my well- being and that distracted him from the more important stuff.
“You alone have a place in his heart!”
Zoe wanted to shake her off, but Lilith simply wouldn’t let go. “It’s a big misunderstanding, Zoe!”
Ella was hailing a cab. She finally got one and turned around to look at her friend.

That was when she froze.
A black car was out of control and speeding right at Zoe and Lilith. Both of them were pulling back and forth, so none of them noticed it until Ella cried, “Zoe!”
Zoe could’ve ducked out of the way, but Lilith was still pulling at her
arm.
At the last possible moment, Mason dashed out from across the street. He was screaming for Zoe to duck out of the way.
He could only save one of them!
In that split second, he chose to act logically instead of doing what he actually wanted to do. Zoe could run while Lilith was in a wheelchair. So, his choice was clear. He saved Lilith!
Zoe could duck out of the way, he believed.
He was right. Zoe leaped out of the way. However, nobody expected a white bus to charge right at her from the opposite direction.
“Zoe!”
His voice trembled when he called out to her. Their gazes met and he saw it.
He saw the incredulity and despair in her eyes.
Thud!
Her slender body was rammed by the bus. Blood spilled in the air, blocking his vision.
Zoe flew through the air and fell heavily on the pavement. She was completely covered in blood. Straining, she moved. The pain was excruciating. It felt as if she had been torn apart.
All she could see was what she saw moments ago.

Mason dashed at them from across the road and saved Lilith. In the moments that she fell onto the pavement, she saw him holding Lilith’s shoulder. They looked just like a lovely couple!
She had fantasized countless times about how things would end for her and Mason, but never in her wildest dreams did she think it’d be like this.
She stared at him quietly. He looked quite worked up. Then, her lips curled into an ironic smile as her eyes slowly lost focus and she could no longer see him….
At that moment, a coffee shop by the street was playing a popular song by a talented artist.
-“1 heard that you’re settled down,
“That you found a girl and you’re married now,
“I heard that your dreams came true,
“Guess she gave you things, I didn’t give to you,
“Old friend, why are you so shy,
“Ain’t like you to hold back or hide from the light,
“I hate to turn up out of the blue, uninvited,
“But I couldn’t stay away, I couldn’t fight it,
“I had hoped you’d see my face,
“And that you’d be reminded that for me, it isn’t over.
