Chapter 209
Zoe ran into Ava on her way down the stairs Mason’s secretary was sitting on the couch in the living rooin with a weaned look on her face. She probably had been waiting here for a long time.
The moment she saw Zoe, she rose and greeted her, “Ms. Zoe”
Zoe stopped in her tracks and said softly, “I’ve just signed the divorce agreement with Mason. So, know this. I’m not his wife anymore.”
What a shame, Ava thought
She hesitated for a short while and decided to say something after all, “Mr. Mason cared a lot about you, actually/ He had never slept with Lilith in all the time he knew her. Perhaps you should resonater it, Zoe! It wasn’t easy to get to where you guys are today”
Lowering her head, Zoe looked at her left arm and murmured,” Exactly! It wasn’t easy for me to be where I am today and he ruined everything for me!”
Ava was a little disheartened upon hearing that.
On the other hand, Zoe had walked out of the manor. She was
determined to leave. As she said, she didn’t want to fix him!
Standing in the living room, Ava watched as Zoe left. She didn’t climb the stairs until she could no longer see Zoe in the distance.
The lights were brightly lit on the second floor. The hallway was so long. It felt as if she could never reach the end of it and it made her
feel suffocated.
Then, she saw Mason in the lounge. He was leaning on the couch, wearing a blank expression. His gaze was fixated on the divorce agreement on the coffee table.

It seemed he was aware of her presence because he said lightly, “Ask Bernard to process this as soon as possible. Also, have him prepare a share transfer agreement. We’ll need it for the shareholders meeting tomorrow.”
He sounded calm, but there was undeniably a sense of loneliness in his tone as well.
She couldn’t resist but call out to him, “Mr. Mason?”
Raising his head slightly, he leaned on the couch and gulped. His voice was very husky when he said, “Are you going to ask if I really let her go with no strings attached?”
She didn’t dare respond to that.
Opening his eyes slowly, he looked at the crystal chandelier on the ceiling. There was a glint in his eyes.
He wished he didn’t have to let her go, but he probably wouldn’t regret his decision.
It was like Zoe said, powers and status mattered most to people like him. So, why would he regret his decision?
Getting back the two percent share and making progress on the multi- billion-dollar project was the right choice for him.
Wasn’t it?
He tried convincing himself, but he couldn’t ignore the emptiness in his heart.
They each received the divorce certificate a week later. With Mason’s influence, their divorce was processed with utmost priority. The staff spent a total of two minutes giving them the certificate, which was warm and fresh out of the photocopier.

At the same time, the staff felt that it was such a pity. Both Mason. and Zoe were so attractive. They looked like they were meant for
each other!
She touched the divorce certificate for a long time. Then, she heard his voice, “Congratulations. You’re free!”
Forcing a smile, she didn’t respond to him. She stood up and was about to leave when Mason-grabbed her hand, “I’ll give you a ride.”
Now that they were officially divorced, she no longer saw the point of letting him drive her around. More to the point, she didn’t want to spend a minute longer with him. So, she turned down his offer, “I’ll get a cab.”
However, he didn’t let her go. He stared at her intensely and said, ” This is the last time. Don’t worry. I’m not going to do anything to you.”
It was the same black Bentley. She sat in her passenger seat as she normally did. It was like he said, this was the last time she’d sit in his
car.
She could feel the cold air from when she shut the door and the air
outside rushed into the car. It was so cold as well, drawing an apt comparison to their failed marriage. There wasn’t any warmth in that
either.
Watching out the car window, she realized the snow was falling again. That took her back to that night in the study. It also reminded her that there were several snowfalls this year. The winter season was particularly chilling and long this year. It was much longer than the three winters she had experienced since she was married.
