Chapter 214
Mason’s eyes grew darker. Did she just address him as ‘Mr. Mason?’
They locked gazes with each other for a brief moment.
The lady sitting next to him saw the tension between them, leaned over, and asked, “Should I step away for a while, Mason?” She put her hand on his arm without a thought. They looked intimate with each other that way.
He wanted to withdraw his arm, but he realized Zoe’s brows fluttered and did the exact opposite. He responded tenderly, “It’s fine!”
Zoe brushed past him and went to her seat. Then, he lowered his gaze and looked at the lady’s hand. It was a good thing she had the sense to pull back her hand.
Actually, she was just testing it earlier. She wanted to know what she meant to him. At first, she was delighted. However, she knew she stood no chance when Mason’s face turned blank immediately after
Zoe left.
The lady spent some time and effort dressing up herself tonight. Brushing her hair lightly, she lowered her head and continued to dine. She asked affectionately, “Do you still care about her?”
Mason had lost his appetite entirely. Putting down his cutlery, he leaned on the chair and stared at Zoe, who was sitting not far from
where he was.
Zoe took off her coat, revealing a mauve waist-cinching skirt. She has a slender figure and the skirt brought out her feminine charm. Top that off with her wavy black hair, she looked astonishing.
They might’ve been divorced, but there was still a hint of
possessiveness and subtle desire in the way he looked at Zoe.
Perhaps it had something to do with the fact that he hadn’t touched a lady for a long time because he had that written all over his face. It was enough to make a lady think suggestive thoughts.
The lady sitting across from him would love to make him hers, but she was smart enough to know that he didn’t have any interest in her. Throughout the night, their conversation was stale and uninteresting!
Rosemary arrived just as Zoe was finishing her order. She wore an interesting expression when she sat down. She probably saw Mason on her way to their table because she was trying to comfort Zoe, “All men are the same! They can’t stay celibate for too long, even more so if they don’t have a wife to satisfy their needs.”
Zoe smiled lightly, “We’re divorced. That means I don’t really care about it, Rosemary.”
Patting her hand lightly, Rosemary said, “I’m relieved you’re fine with
it!”
Then, they had a good time chatting with each other over dinner.
Rosemary had always liked Zoe and she was more than willing to give Zoe her support now. So, she taught her everything she knew about running a French restaurant and Zoe was happily absorbing everything she shared.
Halfway into their conversation, Rosemary highlighted something,” You have to figure out where you stand in the market! My suggestion is that you focus on building a high-end dessert spot. I recall that there’s a strategic location in Skyline Galleria.
“You need to choose a dignified location for your shop so that you can make good use of the network you’ve built in the past. It’ll make it
easy for me to patronize your dessert spot too!”
Zoe nodded, “I’ll check it out when I’m back home.”
Rosemary proceeded to ask about her health and she smiled lightly,” I’m feeling much better! I need to use the powder room for a second. Excuse me, Rosemary.”
“Go ahead!”
Zoe nodded and went to the powder room. The last thing she expected was running into Mason there.
He was leaning on the wall in the smoking zone. His head was raised as he smoked. Wisps of
grey smoke lingered in the air, smoothening
his sharp features.
He heard some footsteps. So, he leaned over and happened to meet
her gaze.
She stopped in her tracks abruptly.
The crystal chandelier on the powder room’s ceiling illuminated its surroundings brightly. If it wasn’t for the cigarette between his fingers, he would’ve thought time itself stopped.
Things became awkward for a second.
Zoe felt the urge to turn around and leave, but he didn’t let her do it. Grabbing her wrist effortlessly, he rubbed it tenderly.
From the outside, he seemed so calm. The last thing she’d expect from him was this show of ruthlessness. What was worse, he
seemed to be undressing her with his black eyes.
