Chapter 215
“You’re out of your mind, Mason!” She tried to shake him free to no avail.
He pulled at her gently. Then, she fell into his arms unwittingly. They were so close to each other that she could smell the odor of smoke as well as the aftershave off of him.
“How are things lately?”
Leaning over, he snuffed out the cigarette. His voice
s gentle.
She didn’t respond to him. Her eyes turned red and she asked, “What do you think you’re doing, Mason? We’re divorced. You have no right to treat me this way!”
He stared at her. It was impossible to tell what he was feeling through his black eyes.
Then, he loosened his grip on her wrist.
Just as she thought he was about to let go, he pinned her to the wall, held the back of her neck, and lifted her head forcefully. Then, he lowered his head and closed his lips on hers.
Needless to say, she wouldn’t have any of it, but he was pressing
against her. His body felt so hot that it could swallow her whole and melt her from within.
“Mason…
“Don’t… Let me go…”
Her protests were soft and ineffective. His kisses stopped her from saying anything. It was so desperate that it made her legs all wobbly.
He didn’t let her go until he had his fill after a long time.

Then, she slapped him.
Staring at him with reddened eyes, she said, “We’re divorced, you jerk! If you do it again, I’ll bite your tongue off!”
“Do it! Then, we’ll make the headlines together.” So, it was true. It was pointless to try to reason with him. He was simply insufferable.
She decided she didn’t need to use the powder room after all. She was about to leave when he caught her wrist again.
This
time, she didn’t look at him. She was sobbing slightly when she said, “You said you’d let me go, Mason. Not only did you harass me, but you also humiliated me! You’ve ruined me over and over again. Pray, tell. What more do you want from me?”
Pulling her closer, he studied her reddened eyes. Then, he said gently, I wasn’t trying to do anything to you! I know that lady through my family connections. There’s nothing between us!”
She responded softly, “I don’t car! We’re divorced, Mason. It’s your freedom to have another girlfriend and have dinner with her. No one’s going to get in your way anymore.”
At that moment, his phone rang. He was about to say something to Zoe when he saw the caller’s name and frowned.
She made out the word “Lilith” and felt a chill down her spine.
The fact was, she had divorced Mason and parted ways with him, but Lilith’s name still traumatized her. Her expression turned cold and she darted out of there.
This time, however, he couldn’t hold her back.
Zoe walked out of the powder room. She tried to hide it, but Rosemary saw through her anyway. Mason was a powerful man. It
wasn’t Rosemary’s intention to get on his bad side. So, she gave Zoe an invitation to a party.
“Come hang out with me on the weekends. I’ll introduce some people to you. You’ll need their help in the future.”
Zoe nodded, “Thank you, Rosemary.”
After they said their farewells, Zoe walked on the streets alone.
Seeing Mason again today brought back the painful memories of
their marriage. It was the memories she tried to shake off and leave behind. All of them swept over her like a flood.
It was exhausting!
However, she knew she couldn’t run from it. They lived in the same city. It didn’t matter how many main streets there were in
Brookesville. Their social circles overlapped with each other. That meant they were bound to run into each other!
She strolled underneath the neon lights for a long time.
The night grew darker.
Then, she received a call from Mia, “Sherry hasn’t had any appetite for the whole day. It even threw up a little earlier. Should we take it to the vet, Zoe?”
