Zoe watched as Rosemary left. A waiter passed by and Farley grabbed two glasses of champagne. He gave one of the glasses to
oe and couldn’t resist taking in her beauty.
She wore a form-fitting black dress and a black jumper over it for tonight’s occasion. Her black hair was tied at the back, exuding a feminine charm!
He couldn’t help but say, “It’s been a long time since I’ve seen someone as beautiful and stylish as you, Zoe!”
She smiled in response. “You’re too kind, Farley!”
It was true he wanted to set up some businesses in Brookesville, but it’d be a long time before it happened. So, he made a proposal to her.
“Are you interested in taking your business to Silvercrest? I can sponsor you.”
She was slightly stunned. She hadn’t counted on that. After some contemplation, she smiled lightly, “My family stays in Brookesville. So, I won’t be moving out for the time being.”
Farley sighed in response. He was reaching forty years old. His wife died in an accident a few years back and he had been raising his children all on his own to this day. It wasn’t as if he didn’t think about getting another wife. He merely hadn’t met the right lady.
Tonight, however, he fell in love with Zoe at first sight.
He decided to cut to the chase. “Forgive me, but are you married, Zoe?”
Zoe was much more mature now. She knew he probably had a little crush on her since he kept asking her questions about her private life.

Of course, Farley was pretty charming as well, but it wasn’t something she wanted to pursue right now.
Holding the glass of champagne, she remained quiet for a while before saying, “I used to be married and I’m still trying to get over it.”
Farley was a smart man as well. He could tell she had just rejected him and felt a little sad about it, but he’d remain a gentleman despite his personal feelings.
That was when she heard a man’s voice from across the room.
“Zoe!”
She looked to the source of the voice and saw Leslie standing not ten feet away from her, away from the crowd. His dashing features were filled with loneliness and he seemed very different from before.
Farley raised his eyebrow, “Is he your ex-husband, Zoe?”
She clarified quickly, “He’s just a friend!”
Raising the glass of champagne, Farley said thoughtfully, “I’ll leave you to it, then. We’ll talk later.”
She nodded in reply. Leslie walked over to her after Farley left. He stared at her for a long time before taking an invitation out of his pocket.
“I knew you’d be here tonight. So, I came here to give you this! I’m getting married on the second day of next month. You’re welcome to join the ceremony.”
She took the invitation and read it. There was a big ‘Together Forever’ printed on the gold invitation that wasn’t pleasing to read at all.
After a long time, she said, “I won’t be going. Congratulations on getting married.”
“Is it because of Mason?”
“No!”

“Well, then. It must be because of Ella. How is she holding up?”
Leslie beat around the bush a lot, but he still came back to asking about Ella.
Raising her head, Zoe said softly, “She has a hard life ahead of her because of your shared history! Let’s not forget what Nellie did to her as well. She needs a hearing aid just to listen to what people are saying. She might be young, beautiful, and has a darling figure, but it’ll be much harder for her to find a soulmate now!”
He said huskily, “I’m sorry!”
She still couldn’t forgive him for what he did to her friend. “She’ll pick herself up slowly and have a good life eventually. You can count on that!”
He decided to remain quiet. Lighting up a cigarette, he finished smoking it in silence. Then, he said, “That’s great to hear! All that matters is she’s fine!”
Then, he lost himself in the crowd and left the party quickly. It was as if he only attended this party to find out how Ella had been doing.
