Chapter 247

Ella responded with a smile, “Go ahead.”

Mason was at the central court of Skyline Galleria. He stood by a window, smoking in silence.

He put some serious thought into his outfits today. Donned in a white. shirt, he wore a bespoke grey suit over it. However, he looked so lonely when he smoked!

He had been here for half an hour. He saw two rows of flower stands and one of them stood out. Calla lilies. It was no easy feat finding them in this season. He glanced at the sender’s card.

It was Cecil!

Zoe probably loved it. That was why she put it in the center. On the other hand, he had bought eight flower stands for her, but they were put aside. Apparently, she didn’t love them.

That was why Mason didn’t go into her dessert spot. A thought came over him when he was smoking. She didn’t even want to say what he wanted to hear last night. Was it because she loved someone else? That could explain why she wasn’t able to tell him that she loved him.

Zoe found Mason and saw him all by his lonesome. Walking over slowly, she stood in front of him, raised her head, and looked at him. Truth be told, she could sense that he felt lonely, but love wasn’t something he could force out of her

She knew what her heart wanted and no one could force her to have feelings for someone she didn’t love!

Taking his arms, she stood on tiptoe. She took away his cigarette and said softly, “Stop smoking so much! We’re going to cut the ribbon

soon. Do you want to come in with me?”

Staring at her, he remained quiet.

Fixing his scarf, she said tenderly, “You’ve been smoking too frequently lately. It’s bad for your health!”

“Are you concerned about me?”

The moment he put forth the question, his phone rang. It was Lilith.

Last week, she finally got the right donor for a kidney as well as a heart. There was a twenty percent chance she could survive the surgery. Mason talked it over with her doctor and decided to press on with it. It was up to fate and her willpower if it would be a success.

Zoe saw the caller’s name too. She remained quiet for a moment before saying gently, “Go ahead and get that. I’ll wait for you in my shop!” With that, she prepared to turn around and leave.

The next thing she knew, someone grabbed her slender arm. Mason pulled her back bit by bit and turned her around to face him. Lowering his head, he looked at her and said very softly, “Did I say anything about picking up her call?”

In response, she smiled faintly. “I thought you wanted a wife who’s considerate, Mason!”

He stared at her intensely. “That’s not what I wanted!”

At that moment, he decided to tear down all the walls in his heart and bare his soul to her.

“I’m not looking for a considerate wife, Zoe. I want someone who loves me to be my wife! I want someone who’d forbid me from taking. a call from other ladies, someone who’ll get jealous when I talk to

another woman, someone who wouldn’t sleep with me just because she wants to appease me!”

The smile faded from Zoe’s face. She was really trying to have a steady life with him. Now, here he was, discontent with what he got. He had been pushing her over and over again. Pushing her to love him and to be jealous of Lilith.

How outrageous.

Why would she get jealous when she didn’t even love him?

Mason’s phone rang again, but he didn’t even cast a glance at it. Her voice was soft when she responded to him.

“Do you love me, Mason? You said you wanted me to be jealous of Lilith. Well. Can you do it if I ask you to cease all medical support for her immediately? The answer is a resounding no! So, why should I care?”

She knew, deep down, that he didn’t have an answer for her.

Lowering her gaze, she mocked herself. “I’ve got a long life ahead of me, but I don’t want to waste a single second on you, Mason. For that matter, I’m not going to spend my time in a relationship either!

“Only a fool would love someone with all their heart! More to the point, I didn’t forget what drove us apart so badly that we had to get divorced. I can never forget it!”

She turned and left immediately after she said her piece.

A phone call. That was all it took to break the peace between them. Their disingenuous relationship was getting closer to showing its true colors.

Even Rosemary noticed it, but she wrongly assumed that Zoe was merely jealous of Lilith.

Holding a bottle of champagne in her hand, she said softly, “All men are the same! If you’ve made your choice to return to his side, then you’re going to have to turn a blind eye to certain things. That’ll make your life easier!”

Zoe forced a smile in response.

At that moment, Mason entered the dessert spot, his eyes full of gloom.
