I Refuse to Divorce! by Light Breeze Chapter 261

Chapter 261

It was dark in the car and both of them were panting.

Zoe was still sitting on his lap. Her fair skin looked more perky and. graceful against his deep grey long pants. Her stockings, which he had pulled down, were hanging on her tender ankles, adding a trace of erotic air about her.

Mason didn’t come to his senses until after a brief moment.

He was going to be a dad!

It was something he looked forward to for a long time. It might event been a little girl, just like he wanted. However, he found that he lacked the courage to embrace Zoe.

A month ago, she told him she needed to have a word with him, but he pushed her away by telling her that he needed to go overseas. Then, they got into a fight over Lilith and he even slapped her at the end of it.

She was pregnant and he slapped her!

Gulping, he touched her cheeks with his lean fingers. There was no sign of the slap at all, but he couldn’t help and asked her again in his husky voice, “Does it still hurt?”

Instead of answering him, she responded nonchalantly, “Put me back in my seat.”

Lowering his gaze, he stared at her intently. However, she didn’t want to look at his eyes. So, she turned her head to the side and said, “Put me back.”

All of a sudden, he held the back of her neck and made her lean on his shoulder. Then, he straightened up her dress. His fingers moved

about nimbly from all the time he spent in their marriage undressing her with one hand.

He didn’t let her go when he was done with her dress. Then, he ran his hand across her flat belly with longingness. After a long time, he leaned into her ear and said in a husky voice, “I’m sorry, Zoe!”

She had never struggled in the whole process, but tears welled up in her eyes when she heard what he said. Be that as it may, she didn’t respond to him. He had hurt her one too many times. His apology was worth less than a dime to her now.

It was almost eight o’clock by the time Mason drove back to the

manor.

Zoe wanted to get out of the car as soon as he turned off the engine, but he held down her hand. He looked at her through dim lights and said tenderly, “I’ll be a wonderful father, Zoe.”

Forcing a smile, she pulled back her hand and got out of the car.

He couldn’t deny that he felt a little disheartened that she treated him so coldly. So, he took his time to smoke a cigarette before entering

the manor.

Layla was already serving dinner. The servants most likely were concerned about her pregnancy and prepared dinner accordingly, which was quite thoughtful of them. However, Zoe didn’t eat much. She took a few mouthfuls and stopped.

Putting down his cutlery, he said gently, “How is this enough food for her? Tell me what you want to eat, Zoe. I’ll make some for you.”

What a pleasant surprise!

She had never seen him making food. However, she knew, deep down, that he was being considerate because of the baby. It was also him.

trying to make up for the slap. So, it wasn’t anything worth swooning

for.

Instead, she asked Layla to bring her a bowl of fish soup. Taking sips. of the soup, she said calmly, “You can save the trouble. I don’t have much appetite anyways.”

He was about to say something, but she put down the bowl and headed upstairs. She was treating him rather coldly, which reminded him of the time when they were separated!

With that, he lost his appetite too.

Taking off his cufflinks, he rolled up his sleeves and leaned back on the couch to smoke a cigarette. Wisps of light grey smoke lingered in the air.

Standing up, he opened the window and watched quietly as the

servant cleaned up the dining table. He asked gently, “Did Zoe have any morning sickness? Was it serious? Did she go for check-ups at the hospital? Also, did she cry that day?”

Layla wouldn’t dare try to hide things from her master. “Ms. Zoe didn’t go out of the manor for the few days after you went overseas. She only started going to her dessert spot after the slap mark on her face faded completely! I believe Ms. Zoe didn’t tell anyone about what happened. Otherwise, Ms. Ella and Ms. Barbara would’ve raised hell.”
