Back in the Sanders’s apartment, Mia bought the necessary ingredients to make a fish soup because she knew Zoe was coming back home.
Zoe was washing up some fruits when she saw it and nagged her, ” You’re pregnant, for Heaven’s sake. Just take it easy! I’ll wash them.” Smiling lightly, she said, “I’m only three months pregnant. It’s fine!” Mia was startled at the mention of the pregnancy. Giving Zoe an apple, she decided to ask after hesitating for a while, “What’s your plán? Ella told me that you wanted to set up another dessert spot in Silvercrest. What’s up with that?”
Taking a bite out of the apple, she found that it was mostly sweet and a little sour.
After a brief moment, she said softly, “That’s part of my plan! I know a guy in Silvercrest. Rosemary introduced him to me. I’ll wait until Noah’s free. Then, we’ll move and put down our roots there. I’m already applying for a passport to go there.”
Mia could just guess how things were between her and Mason, “I don’t think Mason’s going to set up his business there, though.”
She replied, “Yeah.” Then, she lowered her voice, “That’s right. He won’t!”
Mason had finished work and swung by to pick her up in the evening. He didn’t receive any hospitality at her parents’ place. They didn’t even give him a glass of water.
Gordon and Mia had treated him coldly and he took it gracefully, not
letting his dissatisfaction show.
Then, Zoe and Mason went downstairs and walked to the car. Under the evening light, the black Rolls-Royce looked exceptionally elegant. It also cast an orange hue on Zoe’s cheeks, giving her a tender and serene look.
He couldn’t help himself but kissed her when he was buckling her in. She didn’t want to get intimate with him. So, she ducked slightly and said nonchalantly, “I’m feeling a little tired. Let’s go home now. I need to rest.”
Normally, he’d let her have her way, but he didn’t want to let her keep treating him coldly this time. So, not only did he keep kissing her, but he was also kissing her red lips intensely while holding the back of her neck.
After a long time, he had had his fill, but he didn’t release her. Instead, he pressed his forehead against hers and murmured, “You’ve been pregnant for three months now. I’ll ask the doctor if we could start having sex when we go for the check-up tomorrow.”
She had no intention of doing it with him. Even though her face was reddened, she said softly, “Some couples abstain from sex throughout the entire pregnancy.”
His eyes darkened at what she said.
He knew what she was thinking. She didn’t want to have sex with him. It wasn’t as if she felt that way about him. The fact was that some pregnant ladies actually observed increased libido during pregnancy. However, Zoe didn’t even hug him all this while, much less return his
kisses.
He knew it was because of Lilith and the fact that he slapped her. Zoe hadn’t forgiven him for that. Now, she had erected a wall around her heart and stopped him from getting closer to her.

Flashing a faint smile, he said tenderly, “Sure. We’ll do that, then!”
She looked at him and felt disheartened. He might’ve seemed like he loved her the most, but he was actually the person who hurt her the deepest.
Mindful of her pregnancy, he stepped on the gas pedal and drove slowly. Then, he stopped when they came to a traffic light.
Resting his arms by the car window, he said casually, “So, why is Ava telling me that you’re going to set up a dessert spot in Silvercrest? Why did you make this choice now? I’ve never heard you saying anything about expanding your business over there!”
She flinched all of a sudden.
After a brief moment, she told him, “It just so happens there’s a sweet spot there. So, I took the offer! Rosemary and I always chitchatted about Silvercrest. She said that their education was the best.
“I thought about it for a while now. I’m going to give birth to our baby there. That’ll help him land two citizenships. He’d also have more options to choose for his future.”
