Mason nodded, signaling the private nurses to leave them.
There was now a crib in the bedroom and Yanni was sleeping in it. Her breath smelled sweet as she slept, as if everything was fine with the world.
Zoe had been occupied with a lot of things ever since she was born. She had barely seen her daughter. Something stirred at her heart when she looked at Yanni, sleeping away quietly. This was the result of her eight-month pregnancy.
She bore through a great deal of pain in order to give birth to Yanni and she knew it hadn’t been easy for her baby to wriggle out of her
womb as well.
It was all she could do to contain herself so she wouldn’t wake Yanni up. Then, she touched her baby’s face and realized it was warm!
Of course, she wanted to see Yanni. This was her baby. She spent every ounce of energy to give birth to her.
Mason was moved by the moment as well. He couldn’t resist hugging her from behind and speaking in a hushed voice, “Let me look after you and the baby, Zoe. We’ll talk about our marriage in the future. Okay?”
Zoe merely remained quiet.
Then, Yanni started crying. She was a preterm baby and her cries were pleasant to hear, further proving that she was a girl.
Holding Zoe’s shoulder lightly, he said, “She’s hungry. You should breastfeed her!”
Yanni had been drinking formula all this while.

He was aware that she didn’t have any breastmilk in her, but he intended for them to deepen their bond. That was why he suggested she breastfeed Yanni. He wanted her to hold Yanni in her arms more frequently. Perhaps that’d soften her heart and make her stay with him.
Carrying Yanni, he put her in Zoe’s arms.
He was concerned that Zoe might be repelled by the idea that he saw her naked. So, he went to the private lounge to give her some space.
Sitting on the couch, he thought about the irony in this. She was his wife and yet it seemed so inappropriate for him to see her naked. Then, he thought about how both of them had come to the end of the line. Yanni was the only thing holding them together now.
In the past, he had grumbled that all Zoe knew to do was ask things from him. Now, however, all he wanted was for her to do the exact same thing.
He’d give her anything she asked for, but Zoe wouldn’t even look at him or talk to him. She had all but given up.
Is this really the end of the line?
He wasn’t sure how long they could last like this, but he certainly wasn’t going to give up now!
Zoe was trying to breastfeed her baby in the bedroom. She took off her bra proficiently and offered a nipple to Yanni. Perhaps it was a mother’s instinct.
The baby tried to latch on several times, but she couldn’t do it. The next second, her face turned red and she wailed. This time, it was as loud as thunder!
Mason rose from the couch, came into the bedroom, and saw what happened.

Yanni was wailing while Zoe was half-naked, trying, but failing to soothe her. There was nothing but panic on her scrawny face. Actually, he shouldn’t have made her breastfeed the baby. She didn’t have a shred of energy to spare in the first place.
However, he still asked the private nurse to call a lactation specialist to come over. The private nurse left to do his bidding.
Turning around, he walked back to Zoe. Carrying the baby, he closed and straightened up her clothes, “Get some rest. I’ll make the formula for Yanni!”
He was leaning in close to her, almost looking up at her. At that moment, he wanted nothing more than to spend the rest of his life with her. He murmured, “What do you say we raise Yanni together, Zoe?”
All she needed to do was say ‘yes’ and he’d give her everything she wanted. He’d even give her his own life if that was what she asked for.
Turning her head around slowly, she stared at him wordlessly. He was a man who was clad in immense power and influence.
After a long time, she asked in a daze, “Do you think there’s still love left between us, Mason?”
