She was at death’s door and she had lost her father. How could she not hate him? How could she sleep in the same bed with this man who brought her so much misery?
If she returned to him again, then how was she supposed to answer her deceased father? If she lavished herself with the wealth he could give her, then what was the point of Noah going to jail?
How was she supposed to live down the fact that she almost died that night?
Underneath the chandelier, Mason stared at her in silence. After a brief moment, he said softly, “Let’s talk about our marriage later. I think I should feed Yanni first.”
The fact was, he had looked forward to having this baby. There were baby classes in his company. Although he was the director, but he did attend it for a period. That was when they hit the lowest point in their relationship. Regardless of that, he had still been eager for the birth of his baby!
After making the milk, he shook the bottle gently and carried Yanni in his arms. She caught the aroma of the formula, wrapped her lips around it, and started drinking it ravenously.

She asked timidly when she saw him, “Where is Ms. Zoe, Mr. Mason?”
Taking a step back, he responded, “She’s in the bedroom. Be gentle with her. She’s scared of pain.”
She nodded, “Loud and clear, Mr. Mason.” Then, she padded into the bedroom, wary of waking up the baby.
He didn’t join her. Instead, he closed the door and lit a cigarette by the window in the private lounge. Wisps of smoke rose in the air and were scattered to the wind. How he wished the wind would carry away the helplessness he was feeling right now!
It was particularly quiet in the dead of night.
Then, he started to hear painful moans from the bedroom. It looked like the specialist hurt her. Zoe’s moanings were blurred out, but it took him back to the nights when they had sex.

She said without thinking, “Didn’t the doctors in the obstetrics department tell you about it? Ms. Zoe lost a lot of blood before labor. By the time she was sent to the hospital, the entire lower half of her body was drenched in blood. They transfused sixty-seven ounces of blood, but it wasn’t even close to enough!”
