Chapter 290
Zoe didn’t answer the question. For that matter, she couldn’t have if she wanted to. The tranquilizer was working its way through her and her eyes were slowly closing before she drifted into slumber. She was thin, weak, and devoid of her once graceful demeanor.
He touched her cheek lightly, only to find her responding with tears. She was already asleep, but she was still subconsciously rejecting his touch.
An intense pain filled Mason’s heart at that moment. He looked at her for quite some time before rising slowly and walking away.
All of the lights in the ground-floor living room were turned on. There was a newborn in the house and that meant the servants were busy cleaning up the place and making herbal soups. Everyone had their own duty to perform.
He treaded slowly when he walked downstairs. Lowering his head, he looked at the new carpet and felt as if he could still smell the blood in the air. His hands trembled out of nowhere. He took out a cigarette,
but left it unlit.
It was the middle of the night and he was sitting on the couch.
Wind rushed in through the window and tousled his black hair, revealing the grim expression on his face. He just sat there, as though waiting for someone.
It was one o’clock in the morning when there were engine sounds in the yard. Layla stole a glance and was startled at the sight.
Five vans filed into the manor and out came two dozens of bodyguards. All of them were elites in the industry and had expressionless, almost robotic faces.

Then, Layla heard the sound of high heels clicking on the floor.
Ava had rushed to Mason’s manor in the middle of the night. She had just gotten married, but she had no choice but to sacrifice her time for private matters.
She didn’t like it, but Mason paid her enough to make it worth her time.
He stood up the moment he saw her and ordered, “Post the guards at every single corner in the manor. Nobody gets in, and nobody gets out!”
Startled, she couldn’t resist but to protest. “Ms. Zoe is only going to hate you more, Mr. Mason!”
Hatred, eh?
He recalled the way Zoe looked at him and said mockingly, “She already hates me to the core! That reminds me, find the best
nutritionist from my hospital and make arrangements for her to live in the manor. Zoe will need her!”
Halting for a moment, he said in a hushed voice, “She’s discharging an alarming amount of blood.”
Ava nodded in response. Then, when she realized he was leaving, she said, “I’ll stay here and guard over Zoe! I can act faster than your servants if anything happens!”
As a matter of fact, she offered to stay because she took pity on Zoe. She used to be jealous of her, but she couldn’t help but feel sorry for
her now.
They were husband and wife, but Mason had gone too far!
It was still the middle of the night when Mason arrived at the graveyard. It was freezing out there because it was winter. The night

was dark and gloomy as well.
A stalk of winter jasmine was placed before Gordon’s tombstone. It hadn’t blossomed yet, but it held Zoe’s thoughts and grief in it.
Falling to his knees, he brushed his fingers across Gordon’s picture and groaned in a husky voice, “I’m sorry, Dad! Forgive me!”
However, Gordon could never hear his apology. He had been returned to the Earth and joined his wife in an eternal slumber. He enjoyed a carefree, happy life when he was young. It was painfully ironic that he should die without either of his children by his side.
Mason didn’t stay for long.
On the same night, he took a flight to Xylopolis and met Noah.
He had just been sent to the jail here for less than two hours and yet he already had a visitor. It didn’t take long to figure out who that was,
They sat across different sides of the room in the narrow, gloomy visiting room. A lot of things have changed since the last time they
met each other.
Noah might’ve lost considerable weight, but it didn’t do anything to diminish his good looks. He stared at Mason coldly across the iron bar and said, “My biggest regret in life was agreeing for Zoe to marry.
you!”
With that, he rose and left.
The prison staff, who was standing next to Mason, said gently, “I’ll talk to him. Perhaps he’ll think it through and agree to meet up with you again next time, Mr. Mason!”
