Mason sat there quietly. His expression was darker than the gloomy cell. After that, he said softly, “Forget about it!” 

He knew just how stubborn Noah could be. If he had decided to give up his right to appeal to the court, then he wasn’t about to change his mind. It wasn’t so much that he didn’t want the freedom as it was about him not wanting to owe Mason a favor. He was trying to protect his sister. 

At that moment, Mason finally realized it was too late for him to salvage the relationship. 

The entire Sanders family wanted nothing to do with him. 

In the end, he took the overnight flight back to Brookesville. It was seven o’clock by the time he made it back to the manor. The black Rolls-Royce drove past the carved metal gate and pulled into the 

manor. 

Luke said softly, “Ms. Mia is here, Mr. Mason.” 

Mason had been resting his eyes from traveling to so many places in a single night, but he opened the car door the moment he heard what 

Luke said. 

He greeted her. “Hi, Mia.” 

It was a chilly morning. The dew had turned into frozen droplets. 

After Gordon’s tragic death, Mia’s hair turned white overnight. However, she still maintained her composure when she saw Mason. Her voice was soft but husky. “I’m here to take Zoe home.” 

He stared back at her in response. After a brief pause, he lowered his eyes and said, “She already is home. This is her home, where she

belongs. I’ll look after her. Please let me know if you need help with anything, Mia.” 

Smiling miserably, she responded, “I wouldn’t want to trouble you, Mason.” 

Just like that, Mia drew a boundary with him so clearly that he couldn’t ignore it. 

For a second there, he wasn’t sure how to respond. It was only right, though. After all, he abandoned Zoe when she begged for his help. That, in turn, tore her family apart in a single night. How could she not hate him after all of that?: 

Both of them remained quiet for a while. 

In the end, Mia was the one who broke the silence. “I’m aware you’re trying to salvage your relationship. However, you are at the peak of your life, both physically and career-wise. How long do you think you can keep doing this until you grow tired of it? 

“I beg you. You don’t love her, so let her come back to me. She stands a chance to live her life well if I look after her! I have to answer to her parents when I pass away in the future, after all.” 

Mason was shaken by what she said. 

Raising his head, he tried to fight back his tears and said softly, “Don’t worry, Mia. I’ll look after her!” 

Finally, Mia couldn’t contain herself. “Is keeping her trapped in the manor your idea of looking after her? Are you going to confine her here, away from her family and loved ones? 

“I admit, I sensed that you did love her a little. However, this is not how love works. You’re too selfish. She doesn’t love you anymore. So, why do you insist on keeping a leash on her?” 

What she said went right through his heart. He could feel it wincing

After a long time, he said in a deep, husky voice, “I know that she hates me!” 

With that, he got into the car and made a call so that someone would send Mia back home. He didn’t allow his heart to soften, even though she was smacking the car window, begging him to let Zoe go… 

He knew, deep down, that Zoe would leave him the moment he let her go, and she would never come back. 

She would be gone forever! 

The Rolls-Royce Phantom pulled into the manor under the morning sunlight. 

Luke got out of the car and opened the door to the back seats. 

Mason hadn’t slept for the entire night, but he insisted on asking. Layla, “Has Zoe woken up?” 

Layla said softly, “Ms. Zoe is still sleeping, but Yanni did wake up twice. The private nurse didn’t want to disturb Ms. Zoe’s rest, so she fed her.” 

Nodding, he took off his tie as he headed upstairs. 

It was quiet in the bedroom. 

Zoe was sound asleep. She was breathing lightly in her slumber. Yanni, on the other hand, was awake. Her dark, glinting eyes were open and regarding the world with a refreshing curiosity. The fact that she could barely see past half a foot didn’t stop her from taking in the 

view. 

Putting his tie on the couch, he walked over, carried Yanni, and leaned in close to her face. The warmth from his baby girl’s body washed

It gave him the strength to think that he could salvage his relationship with Zoe. They’d be together once more. 

Pressing against Yanni’s body, he said with a trembling voice, “It’s me. I’m your dad.”
