Half an hour later, the black Land Rover pulled into Lockwood Hospital.

Zoe never thought she’d bump into someone she knew when she got out of the car. It was Lilith’s parents, but they didn’t come alone. There was a girl who was younger than their daughter.

She was pretty and looked pure as well as innocent. Her eyes sparkled too. In all honesty, she was better looking than Lilith was.

That lady was staring right at Mason now.

Carly must’ve gotten her for Mason, Zoe thought to herself. This explained why they were back in Brooksville.

She didn’t mind, though. Lowering her gaze, she smiled faintly and brushed past them, walking straight to the outpatient department with Deborah in tow.

Mason outright ignored them the way he would strangers. Closing the car door, he was about to leave when Eira spoke softly, “Is that Ms. Zoe?”

She had seen Zoe’s pictures and knew she was delicate and graceful. Having seen Zoe personally had shocked her deeply.

Eira used to think that Mason and Zoe were the same age. Zoe might still look graceful in person, but she was much younger than Eira thought. On top of it, she was so slim and her skin so fair. She looked nothing like a lady who had just given birth.

Eira didn’t feel too good about it.

Mason merely nodded in response, not showing much interest in her. She watched as he left and bit her lips gently. She couldn’t explain it,

but there was a ball of unease sitting on her chest ever since she saw Zoe.

However, that didn’t mean Carly felt the same.

She knew that Eira was starting to long for Mason!

It was no surprise, really. Any lady would’ve been mesmerized by a man like Mason. She cursed at Zoe because she didn’t think she deserved him. Then, she began to fantasize about all the wealth and prestige Eira was going to bring her.

Mason caught up to Zoe and said softly once they were in the elevator, “That’s Lilith’s cousin. I’ve only met her a few times. There’s nothing between us!”

Lowering her head, she looked at Yanni and said, “you don’t need to explain.”

She might’ve said that, but she began to space out.

It took her back to that night when Mason came home drunk and held her. He told her that the way Gabriela looked at him reminded him so much of her old self.

The same could be said for Eira. It was only natural for a man to seek pleasure and comfort from another lady if he couldn’t get these things from his wife.

Realizing she wasn’t too bothered by it, he decided to clam up as well.

Then, they arrived at the neonatal department and the doctor examined Yanni. She was doing exceptionally well. All of her vital signs were better than other babies her age.

A wave of affection rose within Mason’s chest. He touched Yanni’s cheeks and found that they were warm and tender, much like her

mother’s used to be.

They were about to leave when the doctor called out to him. “I need to have a word with you alone, Mr. Mason. It’s nothing too important.”

He saw the doctor’s gaze and understood what was happening. Turning around, he said to Zoe, “Wait for me in the car with Yanni. Turn the heater on.”

Deborah held Yanni and told him there was nothing to be worried about.

After they left, the doctor, who was a respected figure in neonatology, closed the door. She pondered for quite a while before saying softly,” Your baby’s doing very well, Mr. Mason, but I can’t say the same for Ms. Zoe. She might have postpartum depression.”

That stunned him.

Postpartum depression?

She pondered a little and added, “You need to stay by her side more and do things that’ll make her happy. It’ll help promote her overall well -being.”

He nodded and went out of the room. Instead of going downstairs immediately, he took the time to smoke two cigarettes at the smoking zone, which was located at the end of the hallway.
