Mason had asked the doctor at the rehabilitation center about Zoe multiple times. 

He kept asking if Zoe changed her mind about returning to his side, but the doctor 

would always reply that Zoe was adamant about the divorce and that she didn’t want 

to see him. 

His heart sank every time he heard the doctor’s answer. 

After that, New Year was right around the corner in the blink of an eye. It was New Year’s Eve now. He made the point for the servants to prepare some homemade pizza for Zoe. He even sent some of Yanni’s pictures to her. 

She was going to be delighted to receive these, he thought. 

Then, he had a family dinner at Lockwood Manor, as he always did every year. However, it was going to be exceptionally dull this year. After all, his grandma had 

passed away and his wife was sent away to the suburbs. 

With that said, Lisa was in high spirits. 

The place was also decorated festively. As a matter of fact, it looked even more. 

extravagant than it did in the past years, as if they were about to celebrate 

something notable and exciting. 

Mason took his baby along with him and he frowned the moment he stepped out of 

the car. Mildred told him quietly, “Ms. Lisa invited Ms. Gabriela for the family 

dinner. She’s already here.” 

Casting his glance at a white Bentley parked nearby, he guessed that it was probably 

her car. It was obvious what his mother was scheming here. 

Mildred had worked for Barbara for a long time. So, she was very worried about Zoe 

and couldn’t help but add, “I can’t believe that Ms. Gabriela couldn’t wait until you and Ms. Zoe are at least divorced before doing this. She lacks the makings of a noble lady, truly.” 

He didn’t say anything in reply, but he wore a nonchalant expression on his face.

Mildred’s worries proved to be true. Lisa was playing her game She kept dropping hints to both him and Gabriela during dinner. She even gave her a sterling silves bracelet and expressed her wish that they would be a happy couple. 

Gabriela blushed when she took the gift from Lisa. Then, she looked at Mason, only to find him wearing a disinterested expression on his face. 

After dinner, he went to the balcony to smoke a cigarette. She took off after him and leaned on the same railing as he did. Staring at his dashing face, she said softly, “I know I shouldn’t be so forthcoming, Mason! Although your mother was the one who invited me, the truth is I’m ill–suited to show up here after what happened between us. After all, you’re still a married man, all things considered. You haven’t even 

divorced Zoe! 

“However, I can’t stop myself. I want to see you. I want to be with you in the right way. Although I can’t promise that I’ll love you the way Zoe did when she was eighteen years old, but I will love you in my own way. My love is restrained as well as mature, and I dare say that is the kind of love that would suit you better.” 

She paused to catch a breath and continued, “I’m going to treat Yanni like my own! Not just because she was your baby, but also because Gregory loved Zoe very much 

and I know he’d want me to love Yanni as much as I can.” 

She said a lot, but Mason merely smoked his cigarette wordlessly. 

He turned to the side and snuffed out the cigarette when he was done smoking. Then, he said, “You said so yourself. I’m a married man! On what grounds do you 

think it’s appropriate for you to take care of me and my daughter?”

She never expected he’d respond to her confession by turning her down. However, 

she didn’t throw a tantrum. She had learned to control her emotions after what 

happened previously. 

Later, Mason went back to the living room and saw Gabriela holding Yanni in her arms. She was playing with his baby with an apple in her hands, looking 

affectionate toward Yanni. 

To his surprise, Yanni giggled for the first time in a long time! 

His heart softened at the sight. Yanni needed a mother, after all. 

At that moment, Lina showed up next to him and said gently, “She’s the best choice 

for you, Mason!” 

However, he didn’t answer her. He still hadn’t gone through the paperwork for his divorce with Zoe. He hadn’t had the heart to do so. Truth be told, he hoped that Zoe would change her mind about him after she had recovered and choose to be with 

him again. 

Lisa saw that he was
