“I was never sure if I’d say something wrong that’d upset you. I have no idea what I 

did wrong because you’d just shut me out for the entire week at times. How was I 

supposed to be happy, trapped in such a shitty marriage?” 

Staring at her intensely, he said, “What about if I start paying you more attention and 

respecting you?” 

She smiled lightly and responded, “What’s the point?” 

Then, she took Yanni away from his arms. She soothed her baby when she said to 

him, “I believe you’ve had your fill with Yanni. You can show yourself out!” 

At that moment, Mia walked out of the kitchen with her homemade pizza. 

It wouldn’t be appropriate for him to stay here any longer. Patting his baby’s head, 

he said gently, “The divorce certificate is downstairs. Come with me!” 

Zoe wondered if she should go with him. Moments later, she made up her mind and 

said lightly, “I’ll get my coat.” 

He was quite surprised that she just went with what he said. A sense of hope rose in 

his chest unwittingly and filled his eyes with affection when he looked at her.

All Mia could manage was a strained smile.

He was trying not to upset her, still clinging to the hope of rekindling their 

relationship. 

She knew what he was planning. So, she didn’t respond to him. Turning her gaze to Yanni, she realized that her baby loved him very much. Leaning on her father’s arm, she was waving her hands about cheerfully and grinning widely, revealing her adorable gums. 

He proceeded to kiss her again before giving Her back to Deborah. He said farewell 

to Mia before he left, but he received no response. 

A wave of disappointment washed over him, but he didn’t let it show. 

Then, he followed Zoe and left the apartment. 

They were downstairs when a biting wind rushed at them. He stood in front of her 

instinctively and said tenderly, “You should’ve worn a scarf.” 

She had no need for his affection, though. “I’m going back up as soon as I get the 

certificate!” 

Holding the car door open, he stared at her intensely. All of a sudden, he held her 

slender arm and pinned her to the car. 

The hard, metal surface was cold and uncomfortable to lean on. He cushioned her 

with his hand, which meant he was touching her. It felt as if he had trapped her in 

his chest.
