Chapter 337
Yanni recognized him. She knew Mason was his father, but she felt sorry for herself. He hadn’t been a part of her life for as long as she could remember. She knew she should’ve leaped into his arms, but all she could do was hold tight to her mother’s
legs now.
Holding her arms, Mason pulled her over to his side slowly.
In the end, Yanni couldn’t hold herself back anymore and held him tight. A lump formed in Mason’s throat when he caught the whiff of formula off of her. She was just several months old when they left him.
She felt a little shy, now that she was in her father’s embrace, but that did nothing to
dull her sharp senses.
It felt as if her dad was crying.
Holding his cheeks, she stared at him with glinting eyes and blew at them, “Your eyes stung. Didn’t they, Dad? Here, I blew on it. You’ll feel better after this!”
He ran his hands across her arms and legs. It had been forever since he last saw her and he had missed her badly. So, he wasn’t even half done rubbing his little angel’s limbs. He would sew a pocket in his midsection and keep her there if he could.
After a brief moment, he asked gently, “Where did you learn to do that?”
Yanni hadn’t let go of his cheeks.
Her father was such a handsome man!
Then, she said naively, “I do this for Mom whenever she cries. She feels better every
time after I blow on her eyes!”
Raising his eyes, he looked at Zoe intensely and asked, “Do you always cry?”
Zoe couldn’t help but try to hide the truth. “Dust gets in my eyes.”
“Really?”
His voice was deep and it sounded suggestive. Then, he carried Yanni. He might’ve
been looking at his little girl, but his words were directed at Zoe. “What’s wrong with
her?”
Yanni pouted and looked at him pitifully, “I had a nosebleed!”
His heart sank at what she said. Kissing her on her forehead, he turned and looked at Zoe now. “What did the doctor say?”
Zoe was about to say something when someone wearing a lab coat walked over from
behind her.
It was Cecil.
Then, he stopped at her side. He heard about Yanni’s situation from Dr. Zara and thought Zoe must’ve had a hard time with it. So, he rubbed her shoulder
affectionately.
Squinting, Mason trained his gaze on Zoe, waiting for her response. He alone knew just how scared he was to see Zoe leaning on Cecil’s shoulder with a look of vulnerability on her face. He was so afraid that they became a couple!
So, he was immensely relieved to see her raising her head and smiling faintly at
Cecil. That was it. Nothing more.
Cecil returned the smile.
With that said, their bonding was more than enough to make Mason feel jealous. It was just that he could no longer express them. After all, Zoe and him were no longer
married!
At that moment, Yanni called out to him in tears, “Cecil!”
Taking a lollipop out of his pocket, he comforted the little girl. From the way they talked to each other, it was obvious that they met each other on a frequent basis.
Mason’s eyes grew darker,
Raising his head, Cecil looked at him and said lightly, “I pay a visit to them whenever I go to Silvercrest on a working trip!”
It turned out Cecil went there quite frequently.
An and a distasteful but he maintained his composure when he responded, ” Thanks for hokme after them Cecil
looking
es might have been cordial and friendly, but they actually had a fierce fight ago in fact they almost sent each other to the hospital in that fight.
Now that they met again, everything was water under the bridge, but he felt like the only outsider nonetheless
He could feel a lump in his throat as he watched Cecil leave. Holding Yanni in his arms, he asked gently. “Did he transfer to this hospital?”
He knew he shouldn’t have asked her, but he couldn’t stop himself.
“Have you guys been close over the past few years?”
Zoe had composed herself by now. Taking Yanni away from him, she said softly,” You have no right to be questioning my private life, Mason!”
The moment she touched her little girl, he caught her arms.
