Chapter 341
Zoe couldn’t respond to him with Yanni there.
Mason realized it too and decided to let her off the hook. He said in a hushed voice, Don’t even think about claiming it as a casual thing! You’re not that open–minded,
Zoe!”
She responded lightly, “People change, Mason!”
He raised his eyes and looked at her quietly. Then, it occurred to him that she was a mature lady now. After all, she was twenty–nine years old. She must feel lust the same way he did.
More to the point, she had been single for several years.
It wasn’t crazy to think that she would’ve slept with someone, especially if a man offered her company and comforted the cold, harsh loneliness she must’ve felt
within herself.
It was too horrifying for him to think about it.
However, his pride didn’t allow him to ask her about it. An awkward silence hung over the room as he went back to feeding Yanni and hanging out with her. On the other hand, Zoe sat on the couch and did some work.
After all, she set up more than two hundred franchises of The One Gourmet. Understandably, she was quite a busy businesswoman.
At that moment, Yanni raised her head and asked her dad, “What do you mean by being open–minded, Daddy?”
Mason kept Yanni company for a long time after feeding her. It was midnight by the
time he left.
She escorted him out. The door creaked as he admired her delicate face and said in
a deep voice, “The summer solstice is in a few days. I want to take Yanni out with me
on that day. Are you okay with it?”
She agreed to it without any hesitation.
He couldn’t help but ask, “Why?”
Zoe didn’t catch his drift until after a brief moment. Smiling faintly, she said, “Vanni
quite likes you and she needs to spend some time with her father as well. I’m not
that selfish!”
“If that’s the case, then why did you leave without telling me three years ago?”
His eyes were dark, to begin with, but the light in the hallway accentuated his
imposing bearing.
A chilling wind blew past them and she tugged at her scarf. Her face was still pale
after all these years. The truth was she had never fully recovered from her close call during her labor.
Instead of answering him, she remained quiet.
Mason wisely decided to stop pursuing the matter.
Staring at her face, he said affectionately, “Sherry missed you. It’d always jump onto
your bed and sniff at your pillow every night. Also, the winter jasmine in Kirk Manor
has blossomed wonderfully for the past three years. I took pictures every winter. I’ll
send them to you later!”
There was such a profound affection in his eyes that it was impossible to miss it.
However, it brought nothing more than a faint smile to her face. It used to be that
she’d kill for him to look at her this way, but it didn’t rouse any feelings in her now.
Their relationship was irreparably ruined ever since she got out of the rehabilitation
center.
He was rather disappointed when he realized that she wasn’t going to respond to
him. To his credit, he didn’t pressure her like he used to do. Instead, he merely said
his farewells and left.
Getting into his car, he looked at Yanni’s medical records, which were lying on the
passenger seat. He flipped through them quietly and began to light a cigarette out of
habit. He was about to click his lighter when he caught himself and put it back into
his pocket.
He needed to stop smoking for the time being.

It was the middle of the night by the time he went back to Kirk Manor.
There was an unwelcome guest in his place. At the very least, he didn’t welcome her
presence. However, his servants didn’t dare to turn her away.
Mason might’ve had a rocky relationship with Lisa, but she was still his mother. So, none of them dared stop her when she insisted on visiting the manor. All they could do was treat her hospitably.
Lisa grew agitated from the long wait.
She had been sitting there, twiddling her thumbs for three whole hours. The
moment he came home and saw her, he frowned. Clearly, he didn’t care for her
company.
The light on the ceiling shone on Lisa, further accentuating the anger on her face. Be
that as it may, she let go of her aloofness and approached him. “Did you visit her?
How did it go?”
Taking off his coat, he gave it to his servant to hang it on the coat rack. Then, he sat
across the table from her and said coldly, “Do I have to report everything to you?”
Suppressing her anger, she said, “I don’t care what happens between the both of you,
but Yanni is my granddaughter. I believe I’m not overstepping boundaries when I
say I want to meet her! You should’ve asked for full custody, Mason.”
