Chapter 347
Zoe closed the door and leaned on it once she was back in her apartment. She panted lightly and spaced out for a moment.
After a long time, she reached out and touched her lips gently as tears filled her eyes. She couldn’t forgive Mason as well as herself.
It wasn’t as if she wasn’t turned on by what happened in the car. She kept suppressing her desires, but she couldn’t ignore how her body reacted. He did manage to rouse her when he touched her and pleasured her.
A deep sense of shame rose in her chest.
It was quiet in her apartment. Mia was long asleep, but she saved supper for Zoe. It’s a shame that she didn’t have any appetite for it..
Strolling into her bedroom, she switched on the night light, sat by the bed, and watched Yanni as she slept. Her little girl was doing much better. Now that she had taken the pills Dr. Zara prescribed, she no longer had any nosebleeds.
However, not a day went by without her worrying about Yanni’s
condition.
That was why she went against her will and held Mason with her naked body, practically begging him to sleep with her,
She felt a lump in her throat when she thought about the way she debased herself.
Out of nowhere, Yanni woke up. She stared at her mother sleepily and thought to herself.
Mommy looks so pretty!
Tucking her in, Zoe asked gently, “Did you have nice dreams, sweetie?”
At first, the little girl shook her head, but she nodded the next second and responded softly, “I dreamed about Dad! When’s he coming again, Mommy?”
Wrapping her with the blanket, she carried Yanni in her arms and said tenderly, “Your dad’s going to pick you up during the summer solstice. That’s a couple of days away!”
“What’s a summer solstice, Mom?”
“It’s a day when family gathers around.”
“Gotcha,” Yanni responded.
The next thing Zoe knew, her little girl leaned closer and started sniffing. Then, she said, “You smell like Dad, Mommy!”
Zoe’s face turned red. For the life of her, she couldn’t think of anything to say to her three-year-old daughter.
Yanni, on the other hand, was so happy that she did a somersault on the bed. The fact was, every child would’ve been happy when they found out that their mom and dad were together again!
It took Zoe a long time to calm her down and put her back to sleep
Once her little girl was sound asleep, she hopped into the shower an scrubbed her body several times to make sure she washed herse clean of Mason’s scent.
However, she was rubbing the body lotion when she smelled his
scent again. They were slithering around her body like snakes, eager to penetrate any openings it found.
Zoe was slightly dazed by the scent.
That was when Ella sent her WhatsApp texts.
“Have you seen Farley? Did he say anything about me?
“Well. It’s not like it’s going to help anyway.
“Farley has gone too far this time, Zoe. What he did previously was so
Ugh. I can’t even!”
Zoe was both exasperated and amused, reading her friend’s texts, but she was happy on her behalf. Ella had finally gotten the man she deserved, someone who loved and cherished her.
She proceeded to ask Ella out the next day.
They met in a private club. Ella was there first. She was the second biggest shareholder of The One Gourmet now. That meant she flew around the nation all the time and didn’t exactly have the luxury of meeting up with Zoe whenever she liked.
She wore a black woolen suit, exuding an air of lovely elegance.
Actually, she couldn’t wait to bombard Zoe with questions about Farley when her friend arrived, but she insisted on feigning indifference and beat around the bush.
In the end, Zoe had to put the jewelry box on the table and slide it over to her. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have gotten anywhere. “The pretties jewelry for the prettiest lady in the world! Farley went through som trouble to get this in an auction for you!”
Ella took it and opened it, revealing the gleaming ruby necklace. She could tell that it was an extremely expensive piece of jewelry.
She loved it to the core, but she wouldn’t let it show. She grumbled softly, “Typical. He thinks a necklace is enough to make me forgive him for what he has done! Well, dream on. I’m not done with him!”
Although she was grumbling, but her lips couldn’t help but curl into a
smile. She, too, knew that Farley loved and cherished her a lot!
Then, Zoe said she had to leave because she needed to attend to some matters. So, Ella took out a box hastily and said, “I bought this from Wexford. It’s for Yanni! I stood in line for two hours for it!”
Taking it, Zoe smiled lightly, “You just might be the person who loves her the most in this world.”
Ella hesitated for a while and decided she wouldn’t ask her friend about Mason. She didn’t want to bring up anything that’d make her sad.
Once Zoe left, she opened the jewelry box and admired it for quite some time. The fact was, she missed Farley quite a bit. Perhaps she should give him a call tonight and get over what he did previously.
The next thing she knew, someone had swiped away the jewelry box from her. The guy’s scent was so familiar that her entire body
stiffened.
It was Leslie!
Three years had come and gone. Now, Leslie held the most power and influence in the Schmidt family. Even the Lynch family had to pay him some respect if they didn’t want to get into trouble.
However, no amount of power could diminish the heavy guilt that hung over his head.
He still felt indebted to Ella.
He was glancing at the ruby necklace wordlessly. In fact, he
recognized it. Farley had successfully bid on it last night. Mason had wrongly assumed that he purchased it for Zoe.
