Chapter 366
Time seemed to stand still and everything in the world fell into
silence.
Both of them were panting rapidly, eager to take things to another level. Now, everything seemed to have frozen. The only thing that remained untouched was what Mason just said.
“I’m a jerk who loves you.”
Tears filled Zoe’s eyes as she regarded him with a helpless stare and spoke in a trembling voice, “We can do a lot of things together, Mason, but we can never love each other ever again! If you had truly loved me, then why would you have the heart to hurt me over and over? How could you have sacrificed me more than once?!”
All the pain he put her through was seared into her mind. She could try, but she’d never be able to forget it for the rest of her life!
Mia tried to probe her. Her stepmother thought she’d change her mind and return to Mason again. What she said was true, he was very different. He was very thoughtful now.
However, the pain he dealt her still seemed fresh and raw even to this day. She’d inexplicably feel chilled to the bone in every winter.
Sometimes, the moments she spent being tortured in the
rehabilitation center haunted her in her dreams.
She saw herself squirming in the corner of the private villa, wallowing in hopelessness and waiting for the sun to rise again, just so she could bath in its rays and warm herself.
These thoughts washed over her like cold water and doused any lust she had felt just a second ago. Pushing him away, she straightened up herself and said, “I’m sorry! I just don’t feel like doing it tonight.”
He was disheartened at what she said.
In fact, he was so heavy-hearted that he forgot to straighten up. He merely stood there and watched her leave.
All of a sudden, he caught her lean wrist. He saw the faint scars from her past suicide attempts. They might’ve faded significantly, but they reminded him of the somber fact that she was pushed to the brink
one too many times.
He didn’t say anything. Instead, he pulled her back into his arms little by little. Then, he hugged her so tightly, trying hard to make her stay by his side.
The first thing he did the next day was fire Eira.
He went to work and ordered the human resource department to send the termination letter to his branch company in Hucksburgh,
instructing them to lay off Eira. The entire company was shocked by this particular order.
Everyone saw how well he treated her during that particular year-end party. That was why they were very surprised to learn that he fired her. With that said, nobody dared bring it up to him. The only brave soul who did was none other than Ava.
She was giving him some documents when she gave him an updat about Eira. “Our branch company in Huckburgh has informed Eira about her termination. We’re cutting her out of the debrief meeting this afternoon!”
“Got it.” He was paging through the documents when he responded nonchalantly.
If her guesses were correct, he must’ve bickered with Zoe over Eira again. She asked, “Are you going to attend the business discussion
tonight, Mr. Mansion? Should I reschedule it?”
Leaning back on the chair, he rubbed the side of his forehead and said lightly, “It’s okay. I’ll do it tonight! Zoe’s birthday is in a few days. Go ahead and clear my schedule for that.”
Smiling, she said, “As you wish.”
He drove all the way back to Kirk Manor when he was off work. He claimed that he came back for a change of clothes, but it was obvious that he wanted to see Zoe and Yanni instead.
However, Layla informed him that she had taken the little girl out to see some friends.
So, he had no choice but to leave, agitated.
Everyone in the business discussion could tell that he was in a foul mood. None of them dared to drink with him. In fact, some of the young ladies didn’t even dare to approach him.
They kept a distance from him.
It was about nine o’clock when Ava decided she should call it. She answered her phone and said something in his ear afterward. Everyone at the scene knew that this meant Mason was about to leave. So, they nodded understandingly.
He politely bid all of them farewell.
Leaving the private room, he took the glass elevator to the ground floor with Ava. They could see the whole of Brookesville in the night In fact, the place was quite famous for it.
All of a sudden, he fixed his gaze on the elevator opposite them. A couple was standing in it and he knew both of them.

What astounded him was the sight of Farley putting his hand on her
shoulder while she wrapped her arm around his waist.
