Chapter 374

However, there was only a single red line on the pregnancy test.

The result threw her into a daze for a long time. Sitting down on the toilet slowly, she tried but failed to process what she had just seen. It wasn’t as if she had a choice. She had to accept it.

She wasn’t pregnant!

That left her and Mason two more months to get pregnant. Time was running short. The pressure was immense.

She didn’t leave the restroom until she had sat in there for a long time. Mason was playing with Yanni when he heard her footsteps and raised his eyes to look at her. He could see something from her expression, but they were parents now. He knew that some things were better left unsaid in front of the kid.

They postponed the talk until Yanni was asleep. Mason took a shower while Zoe sat by the makeup table, combing her hair. Her figure looked so slender underneath the glow of the dim light, retaining the look of someone who hadn’t given birth to a child.

Walking over to her, he leaned on the makeup table and asked her tenderly, “Have you done the pregnancy test? Was it negative?”

Nodding, she said, “Yeah. I’m not pregnant!”

She proceeded to continue combing her hair, smoothening it out and letting it cascade to her waist gracefully, giving rise to an

indescribable beauty about her.

He could tell she was under immense pressure. Holding her shoulders, he said in a husky voice, “We’ll pay a visit to the doctor and run a thorough examination.”

She raised her eyes to look at him, tears in her eyes. True, sie was both scared and worried. She might’ve found some success in her businesses, but she was a mother at the end of the day.

It was only natural that she was worried sick about her daughter!

However, she and Mason had the strangest relationship now. She couldn’t show her vulnerable side to him in a way a wife could with her husband, seeking comfort.

He didn’t say anything about their peculiar situation. Instead, he held her gently and tried to give her warmth through his embrace.

Mason took half of his day off and accompanied Zoe to the hospital in the morning.

The doctor ran through the examination and read the results

carefully. He said to Mason, “Everything’s perfectly fine with Ms. Zoe! It’s normal if she doesn’t get pregnant after a month of trying. There was no sign of any issue in her fertility!

“Of course, if you guys want to get pregnant as soon as you can, I suggest both of you relax yourselves. It’s especially true for Ms. Zoe. Try to make it as intimate as possible, there’s a higher chance of her getting pregnant if she was turned on by the whole thing.”

He knew about the nature of their relationship. So, he wasn’t about to go too deep into it.

“Try to keep the romance alive, instead of going into it with the mind of completing a duty. Otherwise, you’ll have wasted your time.”

His words made Zoe’s face turn red. Lowering his head, he stared at her profoundly.

They left the doctor’s office, went downstairs, and got into the car.

better now? It’s normal if you don’t get pregnant right away, so stop working yourself up.”

Smiling faintly, she pondered briefly before responding, “I’ve thought about it, Mason. If I ended up getting pregnant later than the

designated time, I’d go for the cesarean section as soon as I’m seven months pregnant!”

It was the last desperate attempt.

Mason was stunned. His heart sank at what she said. He was a man.

So, he couldn’t get pregnant and give birth to their next baby on her behalf. She had to bear all of the pain and suffering.

He couldn’t bear the thought of it.

Pulling her into his arms, he rested his chin on her lean shoulder and said in a husky voice, “We’ll talk about this in the future.”

She merely leaned on his chest quietly. She looked so affectionate now that it almost looked like their painful past never existed in the first place, as if she had always been his pure, innocent wife who had relied on him.

A sudden wave of anguish washed over him.

Lowering his head, he kissed her.

At first, she was astonished, but she didn’t make any effort to breal free. In fact, her lips parted open, allowing him to slip in his tongue and explore every corner of her mouth.

“Mmm… Mason…”

She was trembling in his arms when he carried her and placed her on his lap.
