Chapter 376
Many years had passed since the tragedy, but how was she supposed to forget that she used to be pregnant with Leslie’s child? More to the point, she could never forget how ghastly the circumstances were that caused her to lose the same baby.
The irony wasn’t lost on her when she realized that Leslie made another baby with Nellie!
She couldn’t possibly move on from it.
Zoe/too, saw the couple at the entrance, so she held Ella’s hand, trying to offer her some comfort.
Nellie stepped into the coffee shop and saw Ella. Leslie was probably treating her quite nicely because her old habits returned with a vengeance.
Looking at Ella, who still had a place in her husband’s heart, she took a dig at her. “Fancy bumping into you here, Ella!”
Ella was glaring at her, the hatred in her eyes so intense that she
wanted to squeeze the life out of Nellie there and then.
On the other hand, Zoe was much calmer. She looked at Nellie indifferently. “Pleasure meeting you here! It seems life has finally started to show you some kindness, Nellie.”
Nellie’s face stiffened at once.
She and Leslie had been at each other’s throats just not long ago. Life had been cruel to her back then, but she didn’t count on Zoe making fun of her like that.
With that said, she didn’t want to cross Zoe. After all, Mason
treasured her a lot right now. All she wanted was to make Ella feel
Udu.
Rubbing her belly, she said, “I owe it to this baby.” Then, she looked at Ella and said, “I’m going to send you an invitation to my baby shower in the future, Ella. After all, not everyone’s lucky enough to receive an invitation from me.”
“That’s enough!” Leslie stopped her crudely, “Learn to quit while you’re ahead, Nellie!”
She was displeased, but she picked herself up again when she realized he wasn’t particularly fierce towards her. It looked like the baby in her belly had brought her husband back to her. She was sure that, given enough time, Leslie was going to move on from the bitch completely.
That was when Farley came over. He overheard some of the conversation. He knew all about the history between Ella and Leslie.
Resting her hands on Ella’s shoulders, he looked at Nellie and said, ” We’ll surely attend the party when we receive your invitation. It’d be good if we could share some of your incredibly good luck.”
Nellie fixed her gaze on his hands.
Did Ella hitch her wagon to Farley? Were they a couple?
What a slut, she cursed internally.
Farley knew what she was thinking. So, he said sternly, “Ella is my fiancée! We’re going to get married at the end of the year. We’ll send you an invitation, I hope you’ll make it!”
Then, he turned and looked at Ella tenderly.
Her
anger wafted up in the air as soon as he soothed her with his
eyes. All that remained in her heart was a sense of ease and comfort.
So, this was how it felt to be loved and protected.
Not only did Farley cherish her, but he also had the capability to keep her out of harm’s way.
The realization almost brought tears to her eyes.
She called out to him, caught off guard, “Farley!”
In response, he leaned over and kissed her in front of everyone. Then, he soothed her the way he would a child. “Look at you. Your eyes are as red as a rabbit’s. Are you this thrilled to be getting married?”
Her voice was trembling when she said, “Yeah. Actually, I’m overjoyed!”
After all, she used to be with Leslie for many years. She’d be lying if she said she didn’t wish for him to marry her. Ironically, all she had gotten from him was unending torment and pain. What was worse, Nellie was the one who got to reap the benefits, as she had
witnessed today.
She wasn’t perfect. In fact, she was downright miserable, but Farley loved her despite all that!
Holding Farley dearly, she knew that she didn’t choose him just because of his good looks and his wealth, but there was also
something in him that made her fall in love with him genuinely. Their love wasn’t hot and passionate. Instead, it was more of a steady stream that could easily last a lifetime.
Leslie looked at the exchange with a blank expression.
It felt as if someone stabbed him in the heart!
The fact was that he had long given up on Ella. He didn’t put up a fight because he knew he couldn’t possibly win. He couldn’t give her the future she wanted. He had prepared himself for the day that she’d be with another man, but that didn’t make it easier for him when he
saw it.
