Chapter 392

The surgery took a long time, almost sixteen hours.

it was ultimately successful. The only There were some hiccups, but it was ultimately successful. The only thing was, Mason didn’t wake up. He was still lying on the operating table quietly. He didn’t know that the surgery went well for Yanni and that she was sent out of the operating room.

He didn’t even know what would happen to him tomorrow.

All he could do was lie down wordlessly as the universe meted out its sentence to him unfeelingly.

Coil took off his mask and read the numbers shown on the monitor.

It was a frightening sight because it showed that Mason’s vital signs were dropping significantly. He might die at any second.

Now, Cecil was a doctor who had seen a lot of deaths in his lifetime. He had grown used to it, but he simply couldn’t accept it when it came to Mason. Leaning close to him, he murmured, “Zoe’s waiting for you! Are you just going to leave her like this?”

Mason didn’t respond to him. He simply lay there quietly, his face was as white as a sheet.

At that moment, the past memories appeared before Cecil’s eyes. Mason had been full of life in every single memory in his mind!

He was a stoic guy and rarely cried, but he couldn’t hold back his tears at that moment.

His assistant came over and said gently, “We need you to brief the patient’s family members, Dr. Cecil. They’re right outside…”

Raising his head slightly, he responded lightly, “Got it.”

Then, he walked out of the operating room. There were a lot of people out here, most of them were Sanders and Lockwoods. All of them were worried about Yanni’s condition, but none of them knew that Mason was still lying on the operating table in there, his life hanging by a thread.

Strolling toward Zoe, he said softly, “The surgery was a success!”

Covering her mouth, she burst into tears and looked at Mia, who was also gripped with gratefulness and kept offering a prayer to the Heavens. She even claimed that she was going to commit herself to more of the church’s works.

Pulling himself together, Cecil continued, “We’ll need to keep her in the Intensive Care Unit for the next few days, just so we can monitor her and make sure everything’s okay. After that, we’ll transfer her to a normal ward.” With that, he turned and walked back into the operating

room.

All of a sudden, Zoe called out to him, “Cecil!”

His body stiffened at her voice. Then, he turned to look at her.

She hesitated for a second before asking, “Where’s Mason? Is he still in there? Why hasn’t he come out?”

His throat tightened at her question.

He was about to respond to her when a lady cut him off. “Mr. Mason received a call from the branch company in Hucksburgh the moment the surgery was over. There was an emergency and they needed him to deal with it. I’m afraid he’s going to have to stay there for the time being.”

It was Ava.

She was walking briskly toward them, dressed in formal attire. It

looked like she came here directly from the company.

Zoe had no reason to suspect anything amiss with Ava’s explanation, especially when she trusted her. So, she bought the story and thought Mason had taken a flight to Hucksburgh.

However, she couldn’t deny that she felt a little downhearted.

He was the first person she hoped to see the moment she heard about the success of Yanni’s surgery.

Mia took her hands in hers, offering her comfort. She waited until everyone else had left and asked Zoe about her next move.

Lowering her gaze, Zoe pondered on the question and responded, “I’ll think about it in the future. I used to hate him so deeply, Mia, but I’m not sure how I feel about him now.”

Mia understood what she meant perfectly.

After all, Zoe’s heart wasn’t made of stone. Mason had treated her

the most hopeless situation. It was only natural that her heart had softened considerably.

with such tenderness and affection when she was is

A week later, Yanni was transferred to the VIP ward.

She was still weak, but she was much better after the surgery. Resting on the white pillow, she spoke softly, “I had a dream, Mom…”

Brushing Yanni’s cheeks gently, she asked, “What was the dream about?”

“I saw Dad in my dream!”

Her face crunched up as she tried hard to recall the dream. However, for the life of her, she just couldn’t remember a single piece of it.

Then, she looked at Zoe and murmured, “I miss Daddy…”

Zoe responded with a tender voice, “Your dad was called away for work. He’s in Hucksburgh now. I think he’ll be back soon. You can see

him then.’

Yanni was a good girl. She didn’t ask any further questions and dozed off to sleep. As soon as she fell asleep, she dreamed about her father again.

She was in the operating room, crying out for him, but he merely lay on the operating table and didn’t respond to her at all. It was as if he couldn’t hear her voice.

“Dad… Daddy…” She kept mumbling in her dream.

Zoe heard it, but she thought it was simply because her little girl missed Mason too much. After all, she was rather clingy with him

the time.

It was quiet in the middle of the night.

all

Standing by the window, she lowered her head and checked her phone. Actually, it had been too long since she heard anything from him. She sent him numerous WhatsApp texts, keeping him updated about Yanni’s recovery from the surgery. However, she hadn’t

received a single reply from him…
