Chapter 394
It was the middle of the night and Mason’s ward was brightly lit.
Cecil ran through a full examination for him, but the results didn’t look good. It was true. Mason had woken up, but his vital functions had all but stopped working. His limbs were unresponsive, especially his right hand. All of the nerves in there had basically died.
Mason accepted his fate.
He might have to be in a wheelchair for the rest of his life. His right hand was basically unusable and he’d have to learn to make do with
his left hand.
To put it bluntly, he was disabled!
With that said, he didn’t regret his decision one bit. Lying on the bed, he said calmly, “Yanni’s my daughter, and I’m more than willing to do it! Zoe doesn’t have to know about this, though. After all, we’re no longer married. She has the right to pursue a better life with…”
Cecil didn’t let him finish. Instead, he walked right out of the ward.
Lisa fell on her knees by the bed and hammered it with her fists. S was crying at the top of her lungs when she said, “Why do you have t put yourself through this, Mason?! Zoe loves you so much. She’ll sta by your side if she knows about your sacrifice.”
Closing his eyes to hide the tears welling in them, he said, “I used to think it was love when I kept her by my side against her will for years! Now, I just want to give her back her freedom…”
Lisa cried her eyes out when she heard what he said.
Staring at the fluorescent light on the ceiling, he fell into deep
thought. What his mother didn’t understand was that he didn’t feel
sorry for himself. Instead, he was genuinely happy about his decision.
Zoe used to accuse him of not knowing how to love someone, but he was now proving her wrong.
Loving someone doesn’t mean you have to keep her with you or force her to do things your way. Instead, it’s about giving her what she
wants.
Zoe patiently waited for Mason to return from Hucksburgh, but she didn’t see him even until after Yanni was discharged from the
hospital.
On the other hand, Ava had been making more appearances than before, but all she ever said was that Mason was preoccupied with the branch company in Hucksburgh. In fact, he was so busy and stressed out that he simply didn’t have time or room in his mind to care about other matters.
The same story went on for so long that Zoe had long stopped
believing it. She tried calling Mason for clarifications too, but he never answered her calls.
Yanni was going to be discharged today. Zoe had thought about several times and decided that she’d return to Kirk Manor. She’d hol off making the big decision until after Mason returned.
The procedures were done. They were about to leave when Lisa came
over.
It had been a month since they last saw her and she looked downright miserable. She regarded Zoe with uneasy anxiety and spoke humbly, “Can I hold Yanni for a while? A-After all, I’m her grandmother.”
Mia was about to say something, but she thought it’d be more

appropriate for Zoe to make the call on this.
Zoe pondered on it for a while and decided it was okay.
The truth was, she hated Lisa with a burning passion and she hadn’t exactly forgiven her for what she put her through. However, she could tell that Lisa loved Yanni from the bottom of her heart. She had no intention of letting her little girl witness too much hatred.
So, she nodded and gave Lisa her permission.
Lisa picked up her granddaughter immediately and held her tight. There were so many things she wanted to tell her, but, for the life of her, she couldn’t squeeze out a single word. All she could do at that moment was hold Yanni, whose life Mason had sacrificed his own for.
Tears rolled down her cheeks.
Standing beside them, Zoe wasn’t sure how to comfort her. After all, she didn’t know what Lisa was going through.
Her hatred for Lisa didn’t exactly abate, either!
Lisa held Yanni for a long time, then she loosened her embrace and stared at the cross for a long time. She said in a tight voice, “Wear this with you at all times. Your Dad got it for you.”
The little girl nodded obediently.
Wiping her tears away, she spoke softly when her gaze met Zoe’s. “I might’ve done wrong by you in the past! You certainly have the right to hate me, but you have to stop hating Mason!”
There was so much more she wanted to say, but she couldn’t. She made a promise to her son that she wouldn’t tell Zoe about it.
Mason said that he was disabled now. He couldn’t give Zoe the life she deserved and she was only twenty-nine years old. She had a whole life ahead of her. Given enough time, she’d meet her destined

man who could treat her right.
Running her hand across Yanni’s cheeks tenderly, Lisa left hastily.
Casting a glance at the door, Yanni said softly, “That old lady is acting. so strange! She looked sad, too.
In fact, Zoe felt disheartened too.
Carrying her daughter in her arms, she decided she should tell her the truth. “The old lady is your grandma, Yanni! She’s your father’s
mother.”
Yanni couldn’t say that she understood what her mother meant.
Flashing her a gentle smile, she put her down and led her to the car. She thought about it for a second before sending Mason a text. It read, “Yanni and I will wait for you at Kirk Manor!”
She thought she’d receive no response from him, as per usual.
However, Mason replied to her text about five minutes later. It was brief and to the point.
“I’m sorry, but I’m going to be with Gabriela!”
